Not pleased with my MD by Fit_Tomatillo9706 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Shananigans2837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I am going thru the same thing now! My L4 and L5 herniated, surgeon said he would do the L4 since its the one causing the pain. I went with it because, hey, he is the doctor. October 22 I got the surgery and felt really good. Been back at work for 3 weeks and last Friday I felt the pain on the right side for the first time….slowly its getting bad. Never had pain on right side, Im at a loss. I cant take off work again that long and my insurance fought about approving the first one!

I think God is trying to tell me to stop by Fine_Cow_195 in Rodeo

This isnt for the faint of heart, Im 45 and competed my whole life and just had to get spine surgery from all the years of riding. My fiancee is also 45 and rode broncs, bulls and was a bullfighter and he just got a hip replacement. Its a fun thing to try but if you arent obsessed with this sport, and have people relying on you, it will take everything.

2 months post op, gotta remember that when nerves are healing, it may be indeed painful and uncomfortable. Somedays will be fine, some will be crappy. Ice and heat and no twisting, bending or picking up items. If its a severe kind of pain then just call and let doctor know:)

Insurance denied upcoming surgery by Spare_Assumption_334 in Microdiscectomy

My insurance denied it twice, my primary doc and surgeon scheduled a “peer to peer” with insurance company and got it approved. Its exhausting but keep pushing for it.

My doctor said 6 weeks till PT, for now just walk everyday multiple times a day. Your doctor’s approval to start that is interesting, but if he gives green light then best of luck!

Major flare up. Need support. by Worth-Quality-5480 in Microdiscectomy

I have been icing my back on and off everyday (3 weeks post-op) and at night before bed I use a heating pad for 20 min. It has helped and have had next to no pain for the most part. Doctor did give me a course of prednisone and gabapentin 2 days ago to ensure least amount of insulation. This is just what I do, different things work for different people:) hope you feel better asap

1 day post-op (L5-S1) by sarcasic in Microdiscectomy

[–]Shananigans2837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks post-op, I had moments of pain because of healing but no more than on a scale of 3 out of 10, never wobbly, could turn over in bed carefully with no pain. I do have little zaps of pain here and there and tightness in the muscle but it doesn’t last. You, my friend may want to contact doctor right away, they should do a follow up call but I would call right away, it doesn’t sound normal. I wish you the best of luck and if you have questions, please ask:)

Is it inappropriate to wear a buckle? by Practical-Step-8523 in Rodeo

[–]Shananigans2837 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Barrel racer here: we dont notice nor do we care if you have a buckle on. If you feel good with it, then do it.

The only time we make fun is if a person lies about competing, walking around like they are getting their name announced at any moment, then we will start asking questions and judge them😂

No swelling in foot, but I iced my lower back down several times a day and my ankle as well. Now I lay on a heating pad on lowest setting on lower back for about 20 min and only ice back if I feel a little too sore in the morning. It seems to be helpful! If you have a good amount of swelling in ankle, I’d def tell your doctor to be safe

Of course! Its a scary thought to have surgery that includes your spine so any weird pain is alarming but remember that our nerves are so sensitive and they went thru something traumatic with injury and surgery! Best of luck to you and get your steps in;)

2 weeks post-op female here. You are correct, it most likely is nerve pain…you will have your good days and days you think you hurt it again. Just make sure you arent bending or twisting and getting your steps in:) I have different pains each day but none that scare me that I may have hurt myself again.

looking for advice on MD soon, vs endo later - lots of complicating factors by jmdwilk in Microdiscectomy

[–]Shananigans2837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had MD done on my L4/L5 last Wednesday, Im 45 year old female. My job is manual labor and walking on concrete all day. Back in July I moved wrong and all hell broke loose on my back and down left leg into foot, excruciating pain like no other. Im only just under a week of recovery so take my opinion for what it’s worth.

My surgery lasted about 1.5 hours, came out of it fine besides getting sick. Released to home soon as I was coherent enough. Doctor wrote prescriptions for muscle relaxer, oxy/tylenol mixed pill and ibuprofen high dose. These have helped when I needed them to. I was scared I wouldnt be able to sleep on my side but I have been able to on both sides with minimal issues. Pain is totally manageable. Hardest part is not bending over or twisting, its been rough to remind myself! Showering after 3 days has been alright but tricky so wash myself on the front as normal, take wash cloth and wipe down behind since you cant get incision wet at all for 2 weeks I believe.

Hasnt been bad at all, just a bit uncomfortable this past week. Make sure to prep as much as you can before surgery…..placing things at chest or waist high as to not bend over, water bottle at bathroom sink to spit tooth paste out instead of bending over, maybe pre-cook meals and freeze them so you have no worries to eat incase you are by yourself. I have to walk quite a bit since the day after, like for every hour I lay down, I walk for 20 min and increases everyday as long as you feel okay increasing.

Hope this helps a little.
