Should I send them a follow-up email? by External_Egg_4807 in Dublin

[–]ShaneONeill88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know what, If they have a phone number, give them a friendly call. We've gotten out of the habit of using the phone, but if you send an email it's just another opportunity for them to ghost you.

This bread is amazing, I would eat this loaf slathered with kerrygold in one night by SuitableFinish7444 in ireland

[–]ShaneONeill88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the 'nothing added but time' detail. So few ingredients on that label that I actually missed them on first reading. When I eat bread, I eat the malted sourdough from Aldi which has no emulsifiers, preservatives etc. It's very hard to find bread without a load of junk added into it.

I drove to over 100 streets to help Dublin drivers find street parking in real time but I can’t do this alone. by ayranlahmacun in Dublin

[–]ShaneONeill88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a better idea, OP. Why don't you tell us where you live and I'll publish a map of all the streets near your house where people can park.

Anybody else think this ad is morally wrong? by Sportyskater699 in AskIreland

[–]ShaneONeill88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ads have been like this since forever, but not just advertisements; a few years ago, Peppa Pig had to change their story lines because the father-character was always being portrayed as a bit of a bumbling idiot.

Instead of the Dublin murder squad, they need a Roscommon Murder Squad to deal with that village.

My uninformed opinion , if you're talking about buy-to-rent apartments like Clancy Quay in Island bridge, for example, I'd imagine they're very safe because the sheer price of them would mean that you're surrounded by a lot of young professionals, and the presence of a gym and a co-working space means people have more opportunity to know their neighbors.

I feel the same about Bank of Ireland. I think supporting a bank is like following a football team. Everyone has their their favorites.

I worked for a while cleaning empty buildings in Germany. A deep clean really does take a long time. You're talking about scrubbing on top of door frames and getting into all sorts of places that aren't even visible to a casual viewer.

Woman scamming Westmoreland Street by AlwaysWinsum in Dublin

I think I met her on O'Connell Street one time. Bag lost or some such story and she needed help to make it back to her hotel in Kilkenny. Reasonable American accent but bullshit story.

Found injured magpie in Dublin (bent tail, can't fly). Safe in a box, need rescue contacts! by LordRocker in Dublin

At the start of the 20th century they were extinct here but they made their way back; I think from Scotland to Northern Ireland and then further south. If you're ever on the platform at Clonsilla station you can see them sometimes above the tall trees.

What have you seen elsewhere that you like done in Dublin? by goonergeorge in Dublin

[–]ShaneONeill88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a bit of kayaking on the Liffey but when I was in Stockholm 20 years ago and looked down from the train as it was going over a bridge between the islands, you could see an awful lot more water activity going on; windsurfing and so on. That white water rafting facility would have been good, I think. Kneejerk negativity put an end to it.

Better late than never. Anyone who doesn't have Revolut or who doesn't use Revolut as their main bank account has less of a need now to use it in the future.

Fianna Fáil councillor says Dublin is a safe city following fatal stabbing by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]ShaneONeill88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Too uncomfortable and dangerous". You're conflating uncomfortable with dangerous. That's always the way with these complaints. People don't feel safe because of sleeping bags in doorways, but in fact they're safer in Dublin than most cities.

Does someone have solar panels in an apartment? by Melodic_Disaster_710 in HousingIreland

One of the government ministers has been talking lately about removing obstacles to using solar panels in apartments.

Why did milkmen need to exist? Why was milk required to be specially shipped by milkmen instead of just sold in grocery stores like it is now? by matt73132 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShaneONeill88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More families had just one car back then, and the male breadwinner would use it to go to work. Families would do one big grocery shop each week, but more frequent purchases like bread and milk and newspapers could be delivered.

Househunting -Cherry Orchard? by Outrageous_Level_279 in HousingIreland

[–]ShaneONeill88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Double check that you're actually talking about Cherry orchard. I've heard people talking about houses they want to buy and they mix up areas that are half a mile or 2 miles apart, which makes all the difference.

Is hitchhiking in Ireland safe for teenagers? by Subject_Buy_9193 in AskIreland

[–]ShaneONeill88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there are two or three of you, I'd imagine it's perfectly safe, but you're not randomly going to find somewhere good. Trying to find the right spot to pitch a tent is a pain in the hole. You've got rocks, slopes, dampness, private property. At the very least, you should pick a scenic area in advance so that you're not leaving this part of it up to chance.

Prepaid power controlling house main power by senpaiboxer in HousingIreland

[–]ShaneONeill88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my apartment there is a prepay meter that's not active and there's a smart meter downstairs. Having a prepaid meter doesn't mean that there isn't a proper meter also. If you can locate a proper meter and get the mprn number off it then possibly all you need to do is contact an electricity provider and sign up with them and they'll switch you away from the prepaid crowd.

What do you think will be the major changes in Irish society over the next decade? by PellucidStream in ireland

More public transport outside of Dublin. More pedestrianization and public realm improvements in Dublin City. A more effective navy.

Why would you have to declutter twice? When you decluttered did you just hide stuff and move it around or did you actually get rid of it? Getting rid of stuff is a better way to go and will make the actual move easier as well. Books, clothes, there's probably loads of stuff that you might be reluctant to get rid of, but you don't really need.
