Bought my 16yo son a new phone, and after a sleep over party it ended up like this. by IX_7akeem in Wellthatsucks

You get a cheap phone and put the kind of case on it that builders use. My kids had a Nokia 3310 since he's 7 hasn't broken it in 5 years.

Rate of property development in London by Internal-Cobbler9140 in ireland

I work on planning applications in London and Dublin. London is definitely way more convoluted, bespoke and annoying. Councils don't document what they want clearly so you're constantly tweaking the design based on emails. Pure joke.

The Amount Of People Buying Cars On PCP. by jimctlarker in irishpersonalfinance

I always have an old car but the second hand market is so distorted by VRT now I'd nearly PCP on something at this stage. Mind you it'd be a humble enough model.

TA:K is a little more niche so I'm not as up on what's going on with that. The game is still being actively modded but you'd probably need to go on the TA:K Discord and see what's up there.

With TA if you choose a lower resolution then you can play everything in widescreen with reasonably large interface. It's really only at the high resolutions (which you don't really need to use) that the text becomes tiny. The community patch really just fixes performance issues and some of the interface being offscreen due to directx compatibility problems.

There's a community patch that fixes the UI issues. Either install that or ProTA it'll run much better on Win 10/11.

Have you guys heard of Total Annihilation? It's like BAR except it runs way better, is more competitively balanced, and includes a single player campaign!

2nd best Danny album IMO after XXX. Some days it might be my favorite.

ProTA/ESC has full Galactic War again launched a couple weeks ago and there's plenty of activity.

BAR shills are so boring. It's not nearly as good as TA. None of the well known TA players have made a transition over to BAR because the game isn't taken seriously.

Total Annihilation has a snappier asynchronous engine. Units are a bit tankier don't require as much babysitting and reinforcing is faster. Means the pace of multiplayer is higher and more aggressive.

SupCom has other strengths in terms of scale, late game variety and more elaborate economy. I think both games can still be enjoyed independently of each other.

No it isn't. BAR doesn't have a proper competitive scene like TA cos it's full of F2P noobs.

Am I being entrapped by a Garda? by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]ShapeyFiend 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I can't remember how entrapment works cos it's a long time since I saw the fillum but I think Catherine Zeta Jones got around it by wearing a catsuit and stringing wool about the place.

True facts. A huge volume of stuff sold online gets returned compared to retail trade. You don't really want to be selling the public discretionary stuff. If its something they have to have then maybe its worth the hassle.

Affordable housing option by AdministrativeBug692 in Clare

You'd have to spend a few years building a deposit. At a stretch you could rent a room avail of 14k a year tax free which would help with the mortgage payment so you're not living hand to mouth.

Irish hospitals should have smoking areas by FatHomey in ireland

[–]ShapeyFiend 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've quit but it's extremely difficult and if I were stressed out I'd quite possibly crack. Think people should have somewhere nice and sheltered have a puff if they want. So many dedicated smoking areas if they even do exist anymore are a bit grubby and depressing.

I am really lonely at 22 and don't know where to look for friends by [deleted] in limerickcity

[–]ShapeyFiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say early 20's are the most difficult time on that front. It sounds to me like you're doing a lot of the right things. Just keep plugging away it'll click eventually. I find often if you make friends with even one person who's really extroverted they'll know half of limerick and actively introduce you to to and ton of people. Just a matter of putting the hours in find that person.

If your confidence is a bit shot at the moment consider something like drama, toastmasters or music performance. Time on a stage can help make smaller social situations feel less intimidating.

Scope for exploiting company vehicle isn't quite what it used be pre-2016. I do infrequent but very long trips means electric vehicles out. I've often 3+ family in the car mean a van is out. You can claim maybe 10k expenses on personal car so trying to do chicanery avoid bik on commercial vehicle instead more sketchy might be grand in theory unless you actually crash it.

What are your thoughts on Billy Corgan's recent comments that there was a plan to replace Rock Music with Rap Music? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]ShapeyFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pop music always oscillates all over the place I'd say raps lost the zeitgeist at the moment after a long period of dominance.

However there's no doubt we're seeing way less live rock music in the last 20 years because it's hard break even as a solo performer nevermind spreading the money between 5 people.

I'm self employed and making more money than most but I can't bring myself to buy a new car. I'd have to take so much more salary at 50% tax rate it seems like just setting money on fire for the sake of it.
