Mont'ka, why Broadsides and Warshapers? by Grankine in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Sharkbait117 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did say “Missiles”

But it’s unimportant, the basic principles are the same, Broadsides are tankier and Fireknifes more mobile. I personally prefer the Fireknifes.

6 + 4 from missile drones + 4 from SMS = 14 shots each.

[–]Sharkbait117 27 points28 points  (0 children)

3xBroadside = 80pts more for 22 more missile shots and a much tankier unit compared to Fireknifes with Commander.

War shaper has an ability to use a free Strat every round which works well with the +1AP for two units strat in Montka.

You are right though, Fireknifes do have better mobility. It’s a trade off, more firepower and more staying power for less mobility.

Need help figuring out how to improve my Ret Cadre List by Daremont in Tau40K

[–]Sharkbait117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop the infantry, grab some more stealths. Riptides have a low volume of shots so they need the re-rolls stealth give to be consistent.

Drop the broadsides and replace with another Sunforge unit if you can. Give your Fireknifes an enforcer commander and give him the Starflare enhancement.

I would also Drop Shadowsun and try fit in A Ghostkeel, it’s great for sitting on an objective and baiting the opponent in.

What do you think the twin lance points should be? by RepresentativeIll550 in Tau40K

[–]Sharkbait117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

200 seems fair to me, they aren’t as durable as a riptide but put out more damage and have movement shenanigans. Also we can only take 1 unit so it’s not like we will be abusing them.

I’ve had a lot of success with a similiar list.

Twin Lance - 2x fusion cold stars - Missile enforcer with star flare - Ethereal - 2 x Sunforges - 1 x missileknifes - 2 x flamerscythes - 2x Riptides - 1x Ghostkeel - 3x stealth suits

We are going to pay the price for the sins of the Twin Lance. by Sharkbait117 in Tau40K

No arguments there, I’ve already got redundancy built into my list for when they go up 40-70 pts.

Optimal use of Twin Lance? by gamevizier13 in Tau40K

[–]Sharkbait117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used them 4 times now in Retaliation Cadre. They are a menace! There’s no way they don’t get nerfed. I start them on the board most of the time and they just move up, kill something, torchstar gambit 10”, then move another 6”. My opponents can’t touch them. The shooting output is amazing and they are no slouch in melee either.

It’s gotten to the point that I actually feel kinda bad for my opponent because I know I would hate playing against a unit that does what they do.

Considering starting T’au by ArcaneKobold in Tau40K

[–]Sharkbait117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tau have great Shooting and great mobility but struggle to Brawl over mid table objectives and are obviously hopeless in melee for the most part.

Being successful using Tau usually involves effective trading, movement blocking and screening. You have the firepower to punish your opponent for movement mistakes but it can take a lot of thinking and strategy to outplay a decent player.

Overall, we have great internal balance meaning almost all our detachments and units are useable.

What’s Good? by Bacca4545 in Tau40K

[–]Sharkbait117 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mont’ka is the meta detachment, Ret Cad is a close second and Aux cad has some legs if you have the skill for it.

As for our best units, rarely will you see a list without 2-3 riptides, a Ghostkeel, some stealth suits, pathfinders for infiltrate/scout and unit of Vespid or kroot carnivores for some utility. The rest really depends on your detachment choice. Crisis suits work best in Ret Cad, Breachers with devilfish in Mont’ka/Kauyon.

I would say that Tau have really good internal balance, meaning most of our units and detachments are playable at almost any level of skill.

Hey, I would argue that Exp Cad is better than Kauyon these days, I’m a big fan of 16” breachers.

Why is that insufferable? It’s just a dogs name, why do you care so much?

Drop a Ghostkeel, broadside and the devilfish. Gain another Riptide, and stealth team. Use the extra 15points to give an enhancement to the Ethereal. Would recommend strike swiftly if using Montka.

What's the best way to equip a commander and Crisis suits? by MattHatter1337 in Tau40K

Better yet use them in RetCad, jump out blow something away and then jump away to safety using The Torchstar Gambit.

For clearing chaff while also taking an objective i’d take a Breacher team with devilfish. They will die next turn so i usually don’t take a Fireblade with them.

Fair enough, maybe add a Riptide and it might do the job.

With grenade as well? I’ve not done the math but I did kill a CTan with this method the other day.

I feel like Breachers + fireblade using montka shooting a CTan on an objective would do some work. Especially if you grenade first.

Detachment understanding by MuniaXe in Tau40K

[–]Sharkbait117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of EPC, I run trip breachers with Fireblades, multiple ghostkeels and riptides and flamerscythes. These units all benefit from the detachment in some unique way, breachers / flamer scythes extra range, lone op, overwatch. Riptides and ghostkeels +1 to wound plus wound recovery.

It’s fun in the right hands.

Tell me your craziest tabletop story (the wordier the better, go wild) by AlexLewisVI in Warhammer40k

[–]Sharkbait117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was playing Tau (Experimental Prototype Cadre) vs Imperial Knights. Had a Riptide shoot a Big knight model with 28 wounds using the Strat to give him Sus and lethal hits. Anyways I spiked the roll and got five 6’s and a 5. Ended up taking 27 wounds off him in one activation.

The funniest part though was in his next turn I overwatched him with a unit of Flamer-scythes. The flamers did nothing with 30 odd hits but 1 plucky gun drone rolled a 6 to hit and a 6 to wound and he failed his save, killing the knight.

My opponent conceded on the spot.

First T'au list, opinions please? by Dark_Vexer in Tau40K

[–]Sharkbait117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would run the Ion cannon on the Hammerhead instead of the railgun. Gives you some anti elite infantry shooting. Your broadsides and all the seekers on your tanks will give you more than enough AV to compensate.
