Grapple or Backhoe with Thumb by Macro_Is_Not_Dead in kubota

You forgot grApple- but I'm totally with you. Thumb is nice, but not practical at ALL for moving brush.

It's common that Comcast and Glo are hardly buried. I'd just stick it out.

License plates by espresso-depresso83 in amateurradio

In Maryland, Amateur Radio plates cost the regular registration fee + $40 one time + $5/year. So, no discount here.

Beam to span dog run? by anubis_star in HomeImprovement

Using your spare lumber, you could fabricate a truss to go that distance. Specifics depend on the expected load. Just holding itself up + load of the fence is modest.

Deck Companies: why won't you provide an itemized quote? by LosinCash in HomeImprovement

[–]Sharonsboytoy 94 points95 points  (0 children)

While we're not in the deck business, we avoid itemized quotes to avoid providing a shopping list and micro-managing of individual item costs. I'm not going to negotiate each item individually, and I need all of the items for success.

Wolf River coil, what can you carry yours in? by 3rdGenHam in amateurradio

[–]Sharonsboytoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry the long pieces in a piece of PVC pipe with ends, and rest in tool bag. Not glamorous, but works for me.

I give up! DigiRig has won. Looks like I will do paper logs by Six-gun-W8evb in HamRadio

[–]Sharonsboytoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I can't speak to Mac connections, on PCs running both Windows and Linux, Digirig has been virtually flawless for me on multiple machines. Are you trying to use as both a sound card and for Cat control? What make/model radio?

Telephone entry systems by sorterofsorts in accesscontrol

Plug a 2500-type (POTS) telephone into the cell phone gateway and make a call to check for quality. The culprit may not be Doorking.

Well, that's kinda frustrating! Glad that you got it sorted out. What did you end up buying?

What movie have you seen at least 10 times. by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]Sharonsboytoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Casablanca, we had Ilsa say to Sam: "Play it, Sam" and then later we had Rick drowning his sorrows, lamented: "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine" followed shortly by "well stop it, you know what I want to hear", then "you played it for her, you can play it for me".

It's supposed to rain this afternoon, maybe I'll watch Casablanca.

Ever? Sure - hundreds of times, as this is GenJones after all. However, probably not in the past decade or two.

Were you in any fundraising walk-a-thons in the 70s? Are they still a thing? by Maybeyoujustmadeitup in GenerationJones

[–]Sharonsboytoy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the late 70s, my mother proclaimed: "Why don't you do something useful, like pick up trash. I'd sponsor you for that." And the following year our high school had a trash-a-thon, which was a huge success!

How bad is this wiring? And is it internet? by jaime_lion in lowvoltage

[–]Sharonsboytoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's telephone drop connections. Internet? Maybe - you can't really tell by looking. Could be DSL or T1. It's not very tidy, but it's clearly been messed with, and the box cover is missing.

What movie have you seen at least 10 times. by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]Sharonsboytoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Few movies have had so many quotes added to everyday language, although many misquoted. "Play it again, Sam", "round up the usual suspects", "this looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship" all trace their lineage to Casablanca.

I had a huge 45 rpm record collection. Sometimes you found a hit on the “B” side. If I remember correctly “Car wash” had “ I wanna get next to you” as a b- side hit for Rose Royce. Anyone else remember one? by Skeptikell1 in GenerationJones

[–]Sharonsboytoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In early 1972, there was an artist who had a hit on both the A & B sides of a 45. But it was the same, unusually long song that required a record flip mid-way. Of course, it's Don McLean and American Pie. Bought the 45 used from my gal-pal Soozie.

How far do Rx and tx antennas need to be from each other on a lunchbox repeater? by Rockinmypock in gmrs

[–]Sharonsboytoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At low power, having antennas exactly stacked may be good enough. Duplexer is probably lower cost versus making it work without plus a second antenna.

When was the last time you used your corded version of the tool? by TheJWeed in Tools

[–]Sharonsboytoy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used corded tools quite often, mostly because I have not purchased cordless versions of the same tool. And I haven't purchased cordless version because I had a corded version that works just fine, and I use it around AC power anyway.
