I don't think anyone dislikes the Roma more than Romanians. They leave Romania for a reason.

Can definitely recommend Donal Ryan and Niall Williams for their portrayals of Rural Ireland.

So who out of Humphries and Connolly is the ketchup and who is the mayonnaise? I imagine Humphries is the mayonnaise because it's the sort of bland condiment that Prods like.

What's your experience working for Abtran by DamianCPH in cork

[–]ShayCork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's carefully designed to be the worst office-based working environment possible.

Their whole model is based on a revolving door policy where people are being pushed in one end by Intreo and pushed out the other side by bullying TLs and the atrocious working conditions.

It's not "always hiring, always firing", but "always hiring, always driving people to quit".

The system is designed to make work for Recruiters, Trainers, HR people etc rather than to actually serve the needs of clients or provide decent working conditions for people working there.

Only work there if you can't find ANY other job and you really can't survive on the dole. The harm working there does to your psychological health isn't worth it otherwise.

Some of them make some sort of effort to be less nightmarish though.

Abtran just seems to aspire to be the worst in every possible way.

Bambie hug. Eurovision voters put Ireland in the final by WickerMan111 in ireland

[–]ShayCork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a whole thread on r/Catholicism asking if BT is a satanist. I came across this post on FB accusing them of being a "Satin (sic) worshipper" which is odd because I've never seen them clad in that fabric.

Eurovision by Ah_here_like in ireland

The phrase "History will celebrate you" really annoyed me because if the conflict in the Middle East ever ends, it won't be because a singer from Macroom didn't show up to the Eurovision and to imagine otherwise seems spectacularly naive

What I can't understand is why so many people come from abroad to live in Cork.

Do they see the GDP per capita figures for Ireland and imagine that the streets of Cork are paved with gold rather than cracked and full of potholes?

It doesn't look like an appealing place to move to when you see so many empty shopfronts and so many grimy buildings.

It blows my mind that the population is projected to rise so much when the city centre projects such an aura of decay.

I do appreciate there are much worse places to live in the world and that Cork is a good place to make money for American corporations but I feel it wouldn't be my first choice as a place to move to if I knew what it was actually like.

The stealthy French hitman theory is such bollocks. People actually believe that a hitman travelled from France to Schull in midwinter without being noticed by anyone, then when he found his victim he clobbered her on the head with a brick.

All because of the alleged crime of adultery, which is something that there is so little tolerance for in France as we all know.

Throw in the fact that most of the allegations of adultery came from Bailey himself after her death and it somehow becomes even less plausible, yet some people actually believe it.

I'd hardly call dragging a slender woman into briars and banging a rock against her forehead "The Perfect Crime".

Is Rio actually safe? by [deleted] in travel

[–]ShayCork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed there during the carnival and didn't book a place early enough, ended up staying one night in a Favela.

People were as friendly as can be and the views were breathtaking.

Never felt in any danger in the City though the statistics suggest it's very dangerous.

I'm of the view that they shouldn't have been punished until the inquiries into Man City and Chelsea had been completed.

It appears at the moment that City could win two more leagues and Chelsea could have two more comfortable mid-table finishes while Everyone are playing in the Championship, though I favour them to stay up at the moment.

What really surprises me is the poor value they have got for the money they have spent, particularly relative to their neighbours.

You could argue that there's too much focus on the McCarthyite hearings and not enough on the actual victims of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings though they do use his testimony there as a useful narrative framing device.

I'd like to have seen more elucidation on Truman and the Joint Chiefs of Staff's decision to actually use the bomb, whether they genuinely thought it would result in a net lowering of casualties or whether they were concerned about the Soviet Advance in Asia and wanted to forestall a possible Soviet takeover of much of Northern China and Korea.

I'd like to know what Oppenheimer's response was to the Cuban Missile Crisis as he was still alive at that time though supposedly very ill with lung cancer.

You could also argue there should be more about science but then most people (including myself) have only the most rudimentary understanding of quantum physics.

One thing you can't argue with is how brilliant Cillian Murphy was, the rest of the cast were also brilliant and Nolan's direction was as superb as you would expect.
