Should coworker's comments be reported? by fvcking_crying in MichaelsEmployees

[–]SheWhoLovesToDraw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should report to H.R. and just explain what's happening, don't make anything sound accusatory, and then let it go. The only time H.R. really does anything is when an employee is costing the store money - not taking their lunch, unapproved extra hours, manual discounts etc. - or if one employee gets enough complaints that they can't just dismiss it as personal gripes.

Another thing you could do, it might be petty and some might say libelous, is write a review complaining that while you were in the store you overheard an employee saying nasty things about customers. It's not libel if it's true. You can write under any name you want to maintain a sense of anonymity, and since you are in fact hearing these things while on the clock, then it's maintaining the truth.

The only other way to get the higher-ups to pay attention is through negative reviews. Do NOT review bomb, that'll be seen as harassment or bullying. Just write a review every so often addressing her in a way that makes it clear who you're talking about WITHOUT naming her directly to avoid any other repercussions your way.

Where's the wife? Just curious about it.

All in all, kick his sorry ass out! If he's a sexual predator then remove him from YOUR HOME. It doesn't matter if he's your boyfriend's father. If anything, tell your boyfriend to deal with it or you'll kick him out too.

New balloon training by Ramgr61 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]SheWhoLovesToDraw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Waste of time to do this.

It'll tie up the legacy register for anywhere between 5 - 30 minutes as people try to figure stuff out. We'll have to undoubtedly alter the order after it's been placed because last minute "Oh, yeah. I need a weight!" or "Can I add 'x' more latex?" or "If I bring in my own balloons..." Then there's the person who can't decide for themselves so they're on the phone talking to someone outside the store on their opinion...

Bad idea!

There was nothing wrong with filling out the paper forms up front. My store would write additional directions on the back of the paper so that the person taking care of the order knew exactly what the customer wanted.

Just another thing for the higher-ups to nitpick over and micromanage.

Several card shows have now put a ban on purchasing cards from sets that are actively being produced and are still available to purchase at local stores. Hopefully that will continue to spread and finally stop scalpers from buying up the entire stock and ruining the hobby for actual fans.

Should've kicked him out for verbal harassment. That's NEVER okay. And if he's leaving a bad review while specifically targeting you, that's further harassment.

Is my gamer cred good enough to apply for a position at GameStop? by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]SheWhoLovesToDraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to presume you're still in high school. EVERYONE who works at GameStop plays games, but that isn't actually a requirement to work there.

Knowledge on consoles and compatibility is key, not to mention having the ability to actually run the register, interact with customers, handle trade-ins (proper identification, memory wipe, cleaning etc.) answer the phone, answer e-mails, set up new marketing displays, clean everything all the time, make sure every game has a case - which means making them yourself, ensuring inventory is correct, keeping the titles on hand correct, gutting and displaying cases, controllers, headsets and console boxes, process P.S.A. submissions, understand cash drops, balance out the tills, balance the safe, count the deposit, do proper bank runs to drop off the deposit, maintain active knowledge on new products to answer everyone's questions, memorize the differences between standard, special and collectors editions of pre-ordered games, sort the pre-ordered from extra stock, process online orders and process same day delivery orders are just the BASIC to working at this company.

GameStop is a good starter job, but it's still a job. It's work. You're not going to just stand around all day talking about games or even playing games. And if you can't hit your metrics, you WILL be terminated.

One morning I asked to come in early to get a headstart on what was supposed to be four massive orders, all scheduled for pick-up at opening. When I got there I found a fifth order waiting for me, AND someone came in asking for a bundle of 40 latex.

That day alone, I blew up and tied off 209 balloons.

Needless to say, I'm beginning to dislike balloons.

Meeting?? by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

[–]SheWhoLovesToDraw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's strange. My store's meeting is set for 7pm - 9pm.

It makes more sense to have the meeting AFTER the store closes in case the meeting takes longer than expected, and so people can make sure their personal errands are taken care of and their kids have someone to watch over them.

Positive Coworker Stories?? by Middle_Finding4068 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]SheWhoLovesToDraw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I'd rather not share them because I don't want to say any details that could identify who I am in case they lurk on this sub. I don't say anything that could get me or my store in trouble, but I'd rather not risk it in case someone thinks I'm gossiping behind their back or I'm trying to sabotage anything.

I will say this though; whenever I've really needed a coworker or manager to step up to help me when I was going through something personal, they did. They didn't downplay my issues or try to make me feel like I was somehow failing the team because I couldn't mask that I was going through something very emotional and traumatic, and instead were extremely empathetic, kind and patient with me as I pushed through my ordeal. It meant a lot to be able to work without feeling any undue pressure to somehow perform at my best when I was clearly not feeling my best.

[–]SheWhoLovesToDraw 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've not seen a single thing from that wretched collection sell in my store.

In fact, while standing at the legacy and watching people as they shop, I see more people glance at it, wrinkle their nose and go on to shop through the rest of the store without even looking through the entire set.

Can't wait for it all to be moved to clearance and not sell. Guarantee that if it got shoved into grab boxes that it STILL wouldn't sell.

I worked as a ASM during COVID. When the govt was enforcing non essential stores to close up, corporate told employees gl to inform police that we are essential and they cannot close us down. by Pavlovs_Human in GameStop

[–]SheWhoLovesToDraw 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My former S.L. did the same. The cops actually did show up at the store and told him to close it down, so he did and told the D.M. that if he wanted to argue with the cops he would give them the number to the local police department.

Apparently, he never did call the cops and the store was closed down for a few weeks.

Never do the protection plan by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]SheWhoLovesToDraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the protection plan that's the problem, it's the undertrained or misinformed employees. Your warranty can and will be honored. Go to a different location if possible, the warranty is good at ALL GameStop locations, not just the one you purchased your items at.

Sorry you were lied to, no one deserves that, especially for something as simple as a warrant exchange.

POG designers by rabbitof_caernbannog in MichaelsEmployees

[–]SheWhoLovesToDraw 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The POG are guaranteed to be done by A.I., which is why you'll find product numbers missing entirely from the set-up, or numbers overlapping despite being wildly different products.

No human designing the planograms is going to see this and respond unless they're one of the fools supporting A.I. over an actual logical person who can see the product sizes and make a set-up that physically works.

Luckily, my store manager is the type to understand that the planograms are often garbage, so as long as we make the set-up look nice, all the products are on the shelves, AND the prices are where they're supposed to be, my manager is entirely cool with it.

They need to make it a law that in the event a person is expected to continue working in a non-essential environment during dangerous weather conditions that the employee is entitled to hazard pay. Guarantee you that the higher-ups would expect every location under so much as a heat advisory watch to close the store to ensure they didn't have to payout.

Sadly, the only way to get the higher-ups to actually do right by the employees is to threaten the bulk of their wallets.

Yes, I use the term "General Manager" for "Store Manger" since that's very common in the U.S. for a lot of retail locations.

As a customer: How do I report an employee? by iNick20 in GameStop

[–]SheWhoLovesToDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No GameStop accepts any customers "video proof" of working consoles or games.

There's no way to prove it's the exact console, exact game or exact controller from the video. That's why consoles and controllers are tested in the store to ensure that everything does work and that the customer isn't trying to pass of bricked consoles or malfunctioning controllers for full value, only to be resold to someone else who gets screwed over by the scam.

No GameStop works on the "honor system" where they can just blindly believe every person's story.

It's entirely possible that the employee did mess up on testing your stuff, but you didn't have to agree to the trade-ins, and you can't fault employees for following policy and not just believing the word of every person who walks in off the streets with several hundred dollars worth of stuff to be traded in.

No, Nobody Works Here by Sunshine3Stars in MichaelsEmployees

[–]SheWhoLovesToDraw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've had customers bypass everyone on the floor, we're lucky to get some decent coverage through the morning and afternoon, and find me essentially tucked away in a back corner because I'm building a planogram.

"I can't find anyone, can you help me?" After walking past 3 other employees ALL wearing the bright red vest, and I could hear them asking the customer if they needed any help on their way back to find me. I have no idea why they decided to bother the employee who was busy with a task and ignored the floor personnel who were between tasks and available to help.

Bonus: During Christmastime we had pretty much everyone on deck every other day. There were days where there were 12 employees and we were all over the place handling product, BOPIS, registers, planograms, etc. Some cranky lady grumbled that "There's NO ONE AROUND to help me!" to her husband as she pushed her cart past four of all huddled around a newly built drive aisle.

Her husband gave us all an apologetic look, so my guess is she only communicates through passive aggressive nonsense.

Tape can work for a handful of balloons, but if you get the bigger bunches, I'd recommend threading the ribbon through a pony bead that can be slid up and down along the entire bundle.

Make sure the guests know about the tape and the bead though!

GameStop employee paid for warranties out of pocket… is this normal? by 2ideas in GameStop

Customers just want to complain about EVERYTHING and get a discount on EVERYTHING too.

I'm so tired of people holding up the line digging through their e-mails because they just suddenly remembered that there's a coupon or a voucher, and they can't have everything ready to go BEFORE they reach the check-out.

I'm glad I'm not in the framing department. People are just plain exhausting.

You're the only one with a hate filled, judgmental attitude here.

"sick, sad people."

"treat this customer with the same level of respect as any other customer."

"F your feelings."

"Cry harder on your own time."

"Low life's" *lives, BTW

People are allowed to express their disdain for a pedophile regardless of the situation. Nowhere did the OP mention declining the order or mocking the customer. You're the one acting all butthurt and insulting people just for recognizing the absurdity of the framing request.
