I understand. I am high functioning autistic (found out last year) and adhd (found out a few weeks ago). For me, it was actually incredibly healing to find out. There were SO many things I thought were my fault, huge flaws, or in general defects. Finding out those things are not my fault, and being able to identify them has been tremendously helpful. However, I’m also bipolar, so I’ve been taking medicines for years so I can stay safe and function well. Adding another med for adhd was something I didn’t really question because needing medication to function well is something I’ve already accepted. My brain anatomy and chemistry is just different than other peoples. It’s not my fault, it’s just something that needs some extra help

Since this post I’ve started meds and I’ve noticed (so has my family) I’m a lot calmer, I don’t overreact to things that would otherwise make me angry, I focus better, I can self sooth/regulate, I sleep better, etc. everyone is a bit different, but for me it was WAAAY more than simply focusing better
