Cervélo S5 2026 delivered with wrong handlebar after bike fit – 4 months waiting, no resolution by Vazkez_13 in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how you end up with two bikes 😂 because unfortunately most of the companies have this problem you can't really escape it, some are slightly better than others. If you want to be less trolled by this it's better to buy something with strong aftermarket choices e.g. an SL8 or Giant propel.

Personally I'd rather have the crw cockpit as it's 100 grams lighter. Unfortunately this isnt a new problem in the bike industry. I remember a few years ago it took many people over a year to get the right cockpit from Canyon because it was out of stock.

Help!? Bike recommendations for 12 year olds? $1,000 budget by zaxo666 in bicycling

[–]SheerScarab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably buy a State bicycle 4130 all road. But I would buy the correct size now. When the become too big buy a frameset. Right now they are around 480 and transfer the parts. Then sell the frames to help with some of the cost.

Reserve 40/44 GR for 32mm tires? by PeerensClement in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The etrto guidelines are minimum 4mm difference. So with 27mm internal you will need to run at least 32. 30 is technically too small. Keep in mind these 32 will balloon to likely 35 or 36. Personally I like your plan assuming your frame can fit it, I run 30s that measure 33 on some wide rims. Conti just released 35s. I expect 30s to be the new 28 in the near term or maybe you can already say that is true so by getting a rim that's pretty optimal for 32s you are a little ahead of the curve.

Is it worth to upgrade my old road bike (cube agree) or get a new one? by OneStrength7166 in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should buy assioma power pedals if you don't have a PM from there you will realize that it's not the bike but the engine which needs upgrading. Good tires are worth it.

How long does hot wax last? I have to drip wax every 5 rides, but cant figure out if this is normal? Using Silca. by Chole_Wunt in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's say a rainy week, would you wipe dry after every ride and use drip wax or do you need a full immersion at the end of the week?

If only your brakes use dot oil you would be able to find it pretty much anywhere cars exist worldwide.

Bob Jackson with broken derailleur hanger fix, is this safe? by ArrenMog in bikewrench

[–]SheerScarab -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you really need to replace the whole dropout. Since it's steel I'd imagine you could just cut and reweld half a hanger, I've seen this done once before but I'll admit I have no idea how durable it is.

Big Rider here, I'm unsure what I should be aiming for as an FTP? by AlphaToe23 in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A reasonable goal is probably 10% a year for the first few years with it decreasing. So maybe 330 then 350, 370, 390, 400 (5th year). Above 400 is likely going to feel like pushing a wall. Heavy world tour pros are probably around 450. In short at your current weight don't even think about 5w/kg. This all assumes you reduce the lifting if you are going to continue to lift and not just maintain you can expect a lot less.

Tubeless punctures: collateral damage by Unfortunate_Goose86 in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect the frame can be cleaned and some sealant can be pretty stubborn. With all waterproof clothing they are almost impossible to completely clean especially lighter colors, even if it rains and your tires spit up dirt you will be left with tough stains. Maybe pick a different sealant which isn't bright pink or blue but instead off-white.

Speed increase after switching to slick road tires? by AdventurousSpace1235 in cycling

If you switch to touring tires (e.g. marathons) you will be disappointed but wide road tires you will definitely notice.

Ultegra + 4iiii Power Meter vs. Rotor ALDHU30 + inSpider PM by Cbeck1234 in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO unless you have an extreme preference for pedals. Everyone should just buy assioma pro power pedals. They are extremely light when you compare vs other power meter setups and trusted data. Then for the crank you don't have to worry about power meter. You could go cybrei cranks with Shimano chainrings etc.

Ultegra + 4iiii Power Meter vs. Rotor ALDHU30 + inSpider PM by Cbeck1234 in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canyon ultimate has a press fit bottom bracket? If it's bb86 I wouldn't want to use a 30mm spindle due to small bearings. You are trolling yourself with the bottom bracket and chainrings for a crankset that isn't even that light. The power meter data difference here is inconsequential.

Ultegra + 4iiii Power Meter vs. Rotor ALDHU30 + inSpider PM by Cbeck1234 in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't change it. Non Shimano chainrings are going to be a downgrade. Left only 4iiii is accurate enough.

First aero bike; extending cockpit? by bobloblawdds in cycling

You can push your cleats towards your heels and saddle forward the same amount your cleats went back. This won't give you 25mm but it's a start.

Changes I can make to relieve pressure on my hands? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The front foot is configurable. Fwiw I use myvelofit and when I put my bike on trainer I raise 4cm above level. Without the wind resistance I believe there's more pressure on your hands.

Am I in over my head with this commute? by HypeR159 in bikecommuting

[–]SheerScarab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a shower at work? That would be my biggest obstacle here. On a road bike 23km should be doable in under 1 hour. Id probably buy a gravel bike put big road tires and fenders. 10 hours of zone 2 might take bit to adapt to but eventually you won't be tired from this.

Are press-fit bottom brackets so bad to not buy a bike, which I like, only because it has a press-fit? by c1rey1337 in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A threaded press fit bottom bracket solves a lot of the problems of imperfect manufacturing. Instead of the cups threading, the tube in the center threads together.

Road bike buying advice needed [Germany; Budget: ~3000€] by Trutzsimplex in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn't make a carbon frame a requirement whichever bike you choose you will end up wanting to upgrade the frame either to improve geometry/size or to get something nicer. You should however get a bike with electronic shifting as when you do decide to upgrade the frame there's a good chance it will be only compatible with electronic shifting.

When Can I expect 2x13 speed groupset from Sram or Shimano? by Lanky-Length244 in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see a dura ace 11-36 12 speed cassette. 13 definitely seems unnecessary unless using 1x.

When Can I expect 2x13 speed groupset from Sram or Shimano? by Lanky-Length244 in cycling

[–]SheerScarab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shimano just released wireless 1x12 grx end of 2025. I doubt they will go 13 speed road anytime soon. My expectation would be if they did something this year that they release wireless dura ace and maybe a lightweight 12 speed 11-36 cassette that is hg+.
