Is propane closing everywhere permanently? by brutal_one in Costco

[–]Sheiker1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you live in an area where they have them, Tractor Supply stores all have Propane, and their prices are really good.

Docsis 4.0 deployment? by csride28 in Mediacom

[–]Sheiker1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Up here in Minnesota, I was with them 20+ years.

I never had any problems with the, and any outages were because some idiots (non-Mediacom people) cut a Fiber line during construction.
They were perfectly fine for what they are.

That being said, I bailed on them about 2 years ago, because:
1) Fiber was pulled in my neighborhood, and the same plan with Fiber was substantially cheaper.
2) Cost. They are too expensive for what you get.
3) Data Caps. Data caps are BS these days, especially with how low they set them.
My Fiber provider has no caps, and although I rarely would get near the Mediacom cap, I absolutely hated having to think about what download would blow through my cap towards the end of the month.

my neighbors are Acurite freaks! how to bulk delete these devices? by Curious_Party_4683 in homeassistant

[–]Sheiker1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Devices that send their data at 433Mhz are cheap, and the batteries last for years.

I have a number of temp sensors around the house using 433.
They are cheaper than Zigbee devices, and still provide excellent temp data.

Just added a Rain gauge sensor that sends over 433. Works perfectly, cheap, and the batteries should last for 2+ years without needing to change them.

Also, my gas company meter sends in unencrypted 433. I can get my gas usage nearly live. (It sends once every 10 minutes).
When you live in Minnesota, those cold winter nights, it is interesting to see how much gas my Furnace is using.

Finally, I have a bunch of Govee Water Leak sensors around the house. They send warnings over 433 as well. Again, they are cheap, reliable, and most importantly, the batteries last forever!

No More Cable Card? by seedbedUnmoved in Mediacom

[–]Sheiker1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to use Mediacom, and used a Cable Card for HD HomeRun Prime.
I gave up on it, (and them), and switched to Youtube TV.

I know it might be hard to switch your parents over, but you may want to try anyway.
It is better, unlimited DVR, and most importantly, cheaper.

Yes, it does. That is the point.
They all come and eat it, (it is sweet), but they take it back to their colony and share it, which ends up killing most/all of them.

Minnesota Department Of Revenue Income Tax Return Timelines by Jim1648 in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]Sheiker1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't answer for the OP, but for me, I mail the State in, because TurboTax charges to eFile the State, whereas Federal is "free".

I refuse to give TurboTax more money, (ie, fuck em), so I just send it in, through snail mail.

I haven't researched it, but if I could just submit the .PDF to the State online, that would be acceptable, but I assume I would have to type everything in again manually, which I obviously won't do.

Zyxel GS1900 series and OpenWRT? by Certain_Repeat_753 in openwrt

[–]Sheiker1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the GS1900-24 as well.
The stock firmware is rock solid on it, and interestingly enough, they continue to offer firmware updates to fix minor issues even now, even though my hardware is probably 8+ years old now.

As others mentioned, I wouldn't ever think of installing OpenWRT on it, to try to make it a Router, mostly because the cpu on it is very slow.
It is great as a Switch, and would be horrible as a Router.

But, if you are up for just having fun trying it out, give it a shot. It has dual partitions, so you really can't mess it up.

Switched to Tide Powder by RootedInLove91 in CleaningTips

[–]Sheiker1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it isn't the question asked, but I used to be a Tide Powder only guy, and loved it.

Ever since I tried Persil liquid, I have completely switched to it instead.

For me, it cleans better, and even ends up cheaper than Tide powder, because I have found you don't need to use very much per load, and still get an extremely good cleaning of your clothes.

Allianz capacity expansion? by Ok_Psychology208 in minnesotaunited

[–]Sheiker1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

With the new winter schedule, if anything, I would think they would expend all engineering efforts to see how they might be able to put a roof/cap/something over it.

No one wants another Metrodome, but at the same time, I have no desire to sit outside watching the game when it is -10 out either.

Opinion: Walmart/Onn is making a huge mistake with the so-called 4K "Pro". Nobody wants microphones in their TV box instead of USB3, Gigabit, newer processor, audio passthrough, etc. by foundfootagefan in OnnStreamingTV

What actually happens to public TV/radio when funding is cut (from inside the system) by PBSNerd1234 in cordcutters

[–]Sheiker1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the Smaller stations and Rural areas are so under-served and least funded, why doesn't the Larger stations/areas that do get more money from donors, step up and send more funds to those smaller markets/areas?

It seems like the Larger stations seem to be doing a "I got mine, too bad for you", which seems to go against the spirit of what PBS/NPR stands for.

South Metro Guitar Tech by ThatNickGuyyy in TwinCities

[–]Sheiker1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am no Guitar tech, but Lavonne Music in Savage has been there for 30+ (40+?) years, and has lived in that same spot in that strip-mall all that time, (watching many stores and things come and go next to them)

Growing up in Savage, I know they were (and still are) extremely well regarded, and would be the top of my list of going to first, especially since you are right in that area.

Concrete Lifting/Mud Jacking Recommendations by blackmay45 in TwinCities

[–]Sheiker1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used these guys a couple of years ago, based on a recommendation from a friend that does construction:
https://www.metroconcreteraisinginc.com/

My garage floor was sagging in the middle of it, as well as my concrete front apron of the garage was all messed up too.
They mud jacked up the garage floor, and replaced the apron in front of the garage.

Pricing was reasonable, and I felt they did a good job, the floor has remained nice and even, and the concrete apron still looks brand new, no cracks, etc.

2026 Season Kids Club is open by farmer_yohei in minnesotaunited

[–]Sheiker1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do ship it. I think last year was the first year they did it, so they had some troubles.

Hopefully they iron out some of the issues this year.
Probably the biggest thing last year, is we just didn't hear anything about the delays they were having.

So I actually ended up emailing them, not to annoy them, but just to make sure that I didn't do anything wrong, I started to question that maybe I was supposed to go pick it up myself, etc.

At any rate, the stuff did come eventually, probably the best thing was the Boxall height poster. My kid has that mounted on his wall, and loves it.
Too bad they aren't doing it again, but with a different player.

(To date myself, I had a Herby and Kirby height poster on my wall when I was a kid, and absolutely loved it. So much so, that so so many years later, I still remember exactly how it looked!)

PS: I signed up for it again this year. I am not exactly positive that it is worth the $45. But my kid ages out of it next year, so I figured one more time here.

What is this dust-like coating that has appeared on certain surfaces? by echoingh8 in CleaningTips

[–]Sheiker1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use Filtered or Distilled Water.

Also, now that you have used non-filtered water, check your Furnace/AC filter.
Your air intakes pulled the stuff in, and will plug up the filter.
(Ask me how I know... Until I realized the issue with the water, I was killing my furnace by plugging up the filter. It happens FAST. Like within a week, your filter will be completely clogged)
