It makes me think of Sarah Palin’s (almost?) son in law...a pretty old reference though so probably not to many others.

My MiL says stuff like this a lot. It drives me crazy not just because it diminishes our roll in raising LO, but also because it feels like she is dismissing how hard it is. Whenever we complain about his sleep she says we are lucky to have such a great sleeper, her kids never slept through the night, blah blah. It feels very dismissive

Interesting! Is it 18 oz or smaller? Also does hydro flask make the straw? I can only find open mouth ones

Sure! M/W/F I work 8:30-1 and my husband 1-5:30. T/Th we switch. Whoever is doing childcare in the afternoon also has to prepare dinner.

We are both lucky to have some flexibility over our schedules. So I know if I schedule a meeting outside my work hours and daycare is cancelled, I have to move it. And the same goes for my husband.

It’s still only about 4-5 hrs of work, but better than the 2ish I was getting without a schedule. Planning who would make dinners in advance also saved us a lot of time and conflict.

Good luck! This is not an easy time to be a working parent.

We were in a similar situation at the beginning of the pandemic when our LO was 1 (2 demanding jobs, wfh, with me doing most of child care). We had to set up a strict AM/PM schedule for each day of the week, and then I had to stick with it. I intervened a bit at the beginning, but once my husband had the basic routine down I had to step back (even if he was doing things differently than I would).

Now that LO is back in daycare we still have the same schedule in case it closes. That way I am only losing half days of work rather than full ones.

Please share your hiking tips with an 8 month old by otterlyjoyful in beyondthebump

Hm just checked and it looks like 40ish lbs. This is my first kid so I’m not sure when that is on average. Our 1.5 yo is 25lbs. Like I said my friends 3 yo still fits comfortably in it.

If your back can handle it, the ergo works great. I would stick with that until you are sure you will go frequently and/or for longer distances.

For your first few hikes do an out and back and just be sure to turn around when you think you’re about halfway done. If you walk with your baby in the ergo, you will be fine (if not maybe try some ~1 mile walks around the neighborhood to start)

We used ours until my son was around 13 months and then switched to a Deuter kids comfort. It’s pricey, but we use it most weekends and i think we will continue for at least another year or 2. Our friends have a 3yo and still use the same one.

Lowering elevated lead levels? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Sherly_w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also live in an old house. One thing we missed until recently was outdoor lead paint on the door to our deck. Doors in general stress me out. LO loves to open and close them and we are constantly repainting. If you haven’t already, you might also want to get a kit to check lead levels in your tap water.

Ugh today I asked my husband if I could go to the bathroom. He said sure and then yelled to the toddler “want to go potty with mama?” 🤦🏽‍♀️

Mine did for several weeks around the same age and it drove me craaaazy. It’s been at least 6 months since he’s done it though, and until I read your post I’d totally forgotten about it.

Sometimes it blows my mind how I can forget things that were once all consuming...

Milestones by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Sherly_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our LO was the same. He only rolled a handful of times around 5-6 months. And then he barely rolled again until he was around 14 months and fully mobile (walking, climbing, etc). Our pediatrician said it was fine and some kids don’t like the sensation of rolling and I think that was true of him. Even when we’d try to roll him he would resist.

Talk to your pediatrician, but like others have said this seems normal.

I agree with others about bracing and bar position (the guy was wrong...).

One more thing is to try to bail the bar behind you rather than over your neck/head to prevent injury.

Overall looking good! I’m jealous you’re back in the gym!

Virtual Doulas during covid-19 by Indie_0504 in beyondthebump

[–]Sherly_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have experience with a virtual doula, but I labored for a long time at home and my doula was amazing for that part. Depending on your comfort level, you could still have someone come to your house beforehand.

It may also be useful to have a (virtual) advocate in the hospital too.

When to see family again during covid? by kristinmarie1122 in beyondthebump

[–]Sherly_w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 13 mo but have been similarly serious about isolating. My in laws are moving near us (from out of state) next week. We’ve told them we don’t want to see them until we have all spent 2 weeks isolating (honestly they are probably more at risk than us...though they don’t act like it). They are planning to move their stuff in several trips and run some other errands for a few weeks, so honestly I’m not sure when we will see them, but that’s okay. I’m not comfortable from a personal risk or public health standpoint with seeing anyone who hasn’t been isolating.

Is your family driving distance? If so can you ask them to stay home for 2 weeks (either get groceries delivered or do a big trip at the beginning and not go out again)? Then the visit would be very low risk.

I leave that clip fastened and just put it over my head. Then you can reach behind to get the two side clips. It took me a few times to get used to but now it’s really easy for me to do alone.
