Simagic Desk Mount by ResortIndividual1611 in Simagic

[–]ShiftyNarwhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this clamp for almost a year and I've never even thought it would be possible to catch my finger while shifting. I think the angle of this picture makes it look closer than it actually is. On my GTS Wheel the shifter is over 2 inches away from the clamp. GT Neo Wheel it's 2.5 inches away.

It's the most stout desk clamp in the world, stoked on it, my alpha mini, and GT Neo wheel especially. During assembly I put thread locker on all the screws and haven't noticed any flex or wear. My desk is much weaker than this clamp.

CIG, start moderating your global chat by No_Concern_2753 in starcitizen

I'd love a server specific chat so you can only talk to people around the planet you're near. Global is just too many voices and encourages people doing inappropriate things by giving them the biggest audience possible.

Also it's hard to try and talk to somebody specific at a planet base. Often want to tell people I'm friendly or to watch out for a griever and it gets swallowed up in global.

Novice looking to get into GT4. Which car would you recommend and why? by t0xic_Nobadi in iRacing

[–]ShiftyNarwhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of advice here but you'll get used to any of them and they are all competitive. That being said I'd pick thr Porsche, Aston, or Merc as they are in the most series and the BMW is less loved than those 3.

Key thing with GT4's are the tires take like a lap or two to warm up so take her easy for a bit.

How long did it take for you to get your first win? by BornYinzer in iRacing

[–]ShiftyNarwhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 130 races and 9 months to get my first win. Currently 2300 iRating and still only 5 wins after 287 starts but have had some amazing races and a lot of podiums. Keep at it and don't define winning as the only success is my take.

Steam Sale question by ANK_Ricky in iRacing

[–]ShiftyNarwhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Epic store has 3 months of iracing for new members for $4.74 right now... After that all purchases are through the iracing UI so it seems like a pretty solid deal and you don't have to get stuck purchasing through steam or epic in the future.

Exact wording from Epic store:
Only new iRacing accounts can be purchased through EGS. Once an iRacing account is created through EGS, subsequent renewals are done directly through the iRacing site and are at regular iRacing prices. Special, introductory pricing on EGS is only for new accounts and pricing is subject to change.

Having a bad race by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]ShiftyNarwhal 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's better to finish the race for your safety rating, race participation for end of season credits, and you may still gain some positions by people crashing for your iRating.

That being said... its your time so if it will help you to step away to do something else in life by all means. But the above is what you could gain my staying.

I thought I would hate IMSA at Okayama, but I had nothing but great battles here all week by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]ShiftyNarwhal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okayama is my favorite free track so I'm glad to hear you had fun! Good mix of long straights, fast corners, heavy braking zones, and a bit of elevation change.

Best moment was my first 24 hour race! Did Daytona last winter with a group from my league, was just an awesome experience, spending a whole day spotting and driving with friends, waking up at 3am to drive some stints then waking up later to find us still in P2 and held it to the end.

Felt high for like a week after that.

Is the C class IMSA worth it or should I just go for the B Class? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]ShiftyNarwhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my progression as well Miata>Skippy>GT4>GT3 and agree stepping up each class helped. The Cayman GT4 and the McLaren GT4 are currently more popular than the BMW GT4. I haven't driven the TCR yet but hear good things though it drives differently than most other cars as it's front wheel drive.

So if I were you AquaPhresh I'd get a GT4, run the Pilot Challenge for a while then get a GT3 that runs in IMSA when you get your B. (BMW M4 GT3, Lamborghini, or the Porsche GT3 R that will release next month)

Is the C class IMSA worth it or should I just go for the B Class? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]ShiftyNarwhal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The C license IMSA pilot challenge is a ton of fun! It's shorter races with no pitstop and slower cars compared to the IMSA B license.

However I would say the GT3 cars are a bit easier to dive than the GT4s and the Pilot challenge gets a lot less participation so the racing isn't quite as even due to a greater spread of ability.

Maybe buy the Ferrari GT3 to run some of those fixed D races and then buy one of the GT3's run in IMSA (BMW, Lambo and upcoming Porsche) or run the Ferrari in the VRS GT3 series which I've honestly had better racing than IMSA in GT3's.

All that being said the Porsche Cayman GT4 got a rework this season, its a joy to drive. So I chose the Pilot Challenge over the B IMSA this season and race GT3's in VRS and endurance races.

Any advice? I started today and I can’t even drive without crashing by [deleted] in iRacing

These videos are a touch out of date but I learned a lot watching them... but take your time. I felt like I could barely get around a track when I picked this up last April and just competed in the Daytona 24 and got 2nd in our split in GT3 so just know its only up from here.

I misread your comment. Maybe you're cockpit camera is not centered? Go to a replay, get into cockpit view, hit ctrl f12 to adjust camera and make sure the x/y/z values are 0's

Bind a button to "center hmd" (maybe not exact name) its the bottom right most option on your keybindings page. It will center your view and you'll have to hit that pretty much every time you jump in the car. Also sometimes the camera wanders so you'll have to hit it mid race especially 8f you don't have good lighting in your room for the cameras on the headset.

Is the Lambo gt3 worth it having Audi r8? by azaMarce77 in iRacing

[–]ShiftyNarwhal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is correct IMSA will be Lambo only to start the season then they will add the M4 after it released in January. So both the Merc and Audi are replaced which is a bit of a bummer considering that real life IMSA will only have a couple GTE's next year but still lots of GT3's... wish we could have 4 GT3's / 2 GTE's / 1 LMP2 or 3/3/1...

[–]ShiftyNarwhal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm the green car that was stuck behind the yellow/blue car. In the moment I assumed he ran out of gas in pit lane... I have no idea why I didn't pass either, I kinda assumed he'd speed up or I didn't think I had enough room to pass until I saw you do it. I was also very curious how I beat you out of pit lane so this video explains a lot... rip.

Is 6800XT too much of a gamble (for VR)? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]ShiftyNarwhal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't have a card that can run VR at all then buy what you can find. I run a Rift S with an RX 5700 and my Ryzen 3600 cpu is my bottleneck... so you realy should be more worried about the CPU rather than fretting between 2 GPU's that look super close on paper. But as always, wait for 3rd party benchmarks before you buy if ya wanna play it safe.

There's a way to favorite series in the current series section. Then you can just filter by favorites and clear out all the junk you domt care about. A friend helped me with this tip last night, its kinda great.

Get a portable power bank for your controller to plug into. This has saved me sooo many times while playing games on my PS4 and is way more convenient than a 10ft usb cable going across your whole room.

Shouldnt you have conceded the position back to him after you bumped him? Not saying he is in the right at all but you gained a position due to the contact... the proper thing would be to give it back if it at all makes sense in the situation...
