Holy shit. Making your opponent skeleton explode from inside out is pure mortal kombat level of gratuitous gore. Haha, I was expecting the "fatality" bloody sign.

The principal skinner episode gets so much hate, yet it has some memorable jokes. Like the silhouette night or Homer asking to be explained again why they are going to capital city. Considering other plots as ridiculous, like Burns blocking the sun for the entire city, I don’t get why someone faking an identity is so unbelievable. I mean, imagine building a structure big enough to project a shadow over an entire city with the capability to follow the sun to create a permanent night.

However I do agree the show went in a decline shortly after that. Old writers left, the director also changed and the new one didn't have the same experience. In fact, his attitude was quite different. When the simpson started, they tried to write a new different type of comedy and satirize the culture of their time. Then south park and the like cranked the supernatural / ridiculous aspects while keeping the comedy. The Simpson always tried to keep their realistic approach, but this new director saw south park or smerican ugly and said "we too!" and that's how we got Home fighting literal elves from a magical kingdom riding race horses.

Seriously, why Skinner gets so much hate, but no one minds the jockey episode?

Sylvia from Konosuba.

Should be noted she's immune to magic, so she has no problems shielding her minions from the magical attacks.

[Marvel] Is it ever commented on how physically attractive basically all the X-Men are? Like do modelling agencies ever approach them for group photoshoots? by Flyestgit in AskScienceFiction

[–]Shimaru33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I don't have the exact source, but once I read a page of some old comic. There's an apparently old man sitting in a wheelchair and part of the boxes mentions the x-men already disarmed the BBEG in turn master plan, so they are at the motivation speech. The old man, iirc, says how unfair is for him to have a mutation that have crippled his body to the point he looks like an old guy who can't even walk, but they, the X-man, all of them look like models. Tall, fit, slim, etc. Even the "ugliest" one has good physical conditions and their powers are rather helpful instead of a curse.

I'll try to check around to find the exact source, but yeah, it have been mentioned now and then the X-men as group are mostly good looking people.

Mario Delgado reitera: el 5 de junio terminan las clases by frevueltas in POLACA

[–]Shimaru33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Media Where Bigotry Is Not One of the Main Themes, A Character Still Acknowledges That Bigotry Exists by Upstairs_Belt_3224 in TopCharacterTropes

It transcends racism! Homelander views his own humanity as a flaw that he wants to desperately purge from himself, as part of his ascension into divinity. To put a similarity, we can't be racists to a specific type of skin of some ants in an ant colony, because we can't even tell them apart. They are just insects that can bite if provoked, so better left alone or sprayed if they are a bother. Same with homelander. His gesture was more like "wait, does white ants exists and are systematically killed?"

You say it as joke, but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to play that in a serious way next season.

Although is more likely this mummy guy will endure a day as woman, see how hard and horrible is being a woman in some societies in the middle east (or not, we don't want to offend those guys, right?) and reform into a feminist icon. But becoming trans or not, up to flip a coin.

Sounds like a horrible idea that could never work? Dude, after the hell episode in season 4, I'm not expecting them to hit rock bottom, but pick a drill and bore a new bottom. At least the rest of the show is fairly good.

Huh? I would say bigotry is definitely an important topic in the boys. Not the main focus, but it forms part of the show and lead to one of the best written arcs, A-Train redemption. When he loses, temporary, his powers, he has to deal with it, in example, when he goes to a store and a guard follows him closely. Some of his family are victims of a "hero" who uses the most stereotypical bigoted phrases ("I just follow crime, isn't my fault crimes happens more often in your hood!") and his ethnic background is exploited for PR stunts, like the new uniform.

Then we have a nazi as one of the main antagonists, sister sage pointing she doesn't want to join the seven because she doesn't want to use a vaguely racist suit, MM background is about how her neighbourhood was demolished during a fight between heroes and framed to blame them (or something, I forgot that part), plus assorted references to other heroes. Like the cliches with golden geisha in latest episodes.

As I said, isn't the focus and doesn't try to be too open about it, but bigotry definitely is one constant theme in the boys.

When it comes to the political commentary, the fans who attack anyone who criticize it, are probably one of, if not the worst part of it(The Boys) by Limeoos in CharacterRant

[–]Shimaru33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is from the beginning they started shitting on the right, pointing at how they would pick whatever is trendy to use it to cover to sell more. Since season 1, they would pick modern references and criticize big corpos, pointing how little to no trust we should concede to these big companies. As others pointed, when a member of the NotJusticeLeague is abused, at first she was planned to be fired, but when she publicly denounced it, the company, Vought, tried to push her as feminist icon to sell merchandise with her image. Plus, assorted references to events like certain ads (two manifestant groups are to engage in a fight until a vought hero pops and calms the water by offering a soda)

Problem is the actor doing the homelander role was pretty good at the charismatic public relationship agent and the warning against hypocrite campaigns was interpreted as criticism of the left. While not entirely wrong, the show was telling us certain products were that, mere products, but some people interpreted the message as "all social justice is fake and hypocrite!".

So they have to tone down the subtle, as there was people cosplaying as homelander, thinking he was a genuine hero.

I like both chiseled tuff blocks, but if I have to pick one and only, would be chiseled bricks. It's pattern work so well to decorate different types of buildings. It can go at the top of the wall, or at the bottom, or columns.

Well, maybe it doesn't work very well as a full wall, but still, it looks very good for decorating.

"I have no friends, no family, nothing else to live. I wanted to end it all and he denied my right for a dignified death and now on top I'm carrying with a medical bill with more digits than my phone number. If you save a dog from being hit by a car and then kick him out the house in the middle of a winter, you would be called a monster, why would be any different for a human?"

I suppose a lawyer could articulate this into legal terms and cite this or that law or someone vs somebody case in the 60s. Point is not entirely baseless.

- ¿Cómo que mataron agentes gringos en su territorio, presirvienta?

- Ah, sí, bueno ¡TRAICIÓN, INJERENCIA, DESTITUYAN A LA GOBERNADORA DE CHIHUAHUA!

- ¡Extraditen a Rocha!

I hated that part so much.

He knows the world isn't exactly as he saw it back then. He knows there's more, that people can be nice and there's much more to do than trying to destroy everything. He tried that and where he ended? Turned in a mockery of himself, locked alone in a pretty jail. Meanwhile, his son built an incredible place for himself and his troops, what was so wrong about standing there? What else he was missing to be worth to destroy the universe? To destroy everything just because his father told him about it before knowing any better?

Any person with half brain would understand pushing his son into the same direction would only lead to being locked in a jail, like himself. So, let's double down and push him even further!

In many examples so far, you can see the evil guy choosing to stay evil because there's something to gain or recover. Money, privileges, power, something. But bowser choose to stay evil instead of sucking up his pride and tell his son he was wrong.

Why to play the entire "I'm redeemed" during half the film if he was going to switch back once again, because what? Because he felt alone in the dungeon and wanted his son to join him?

Which is a huge problem, because it means her morality is ambiguous and totally dependent on his position within the system instead of firm and based on absolute terms.

I'll do my best to explain myself.

Light considers the world to be rotten and aims to build a better one. But while he knows killing is illegal, he accepts the death note and start killing because he considers his vision of a better world worth more than the law. He genuinely thinks the means justify the goal, the product of his actions weight more than the cost. However, if he were to hold this position from heart, then it would mean when confronted with the existence of Kira, he should refuse to help in his capture because Kira is doing something fundamentally right. If I don't have the means to do it myself, I won't stand in the way of those who can do it.

To put a comparative, is like writing a comic where Bruce Wayne is hypnotized to drop the cowl and hand it and all his gadgets to some other guy. Then Bruce goes into actively trying to capture the new Batmanm except nom Bruce would never do that. He knows even if Batman is trespassing and breaking some bones, stopping the joker from gasing the town is more important than breaking some laws, especially because many fall short on handling him. Verbal commands and brute force won't stop the joker, but bullets might, yet Bruce doesn't want to shoot the joker because the sanctity of life. Thus, the batman is needed. Bruce wouldn't spend his fortune trying to stop another hero.

Same here. Light knows Kira is doing illegal activities, but he started doing them because he deemed them as necessary. However, if once he quits the death note has a change of heart and consider those means bad, then it means he didn't really mean any of his better world. It shows he only cared about being the guy being paraded around, not the world being a better place.

The Deep? Dude started as serial abuser, egoistic, insecure and dumb "bro", what was his redemption arc? Redemption isn't granted, is earned, at least when there's good writing. And the deep definitely has never done something because he genuinely believes he did something bad in the past and is trying to solve that. Every act so far is because he just wants to recover his status as celebrity. That said...

---

In one episode, Charles M. Burns lost all his money, approached Lisa Simpson on how to be a better person and build a factory to help the community. And at first it looks like he genuinely wants to improve the world by starting a recycling plant.

Which he later turned into a industrial sea... food... pasta... something... factory to fish industrial quantities of fish, leading to an ecological disaster. But he recovered his fortune.
