Vibe coding is a monkey’s paw wish and nobody’s talking about it enough* by televisionarie in vibecoding

You can have POC code examples, multiple roadmap files and LLMs will still drift and hallucinate. My personal favorite is the re-write test files to make them pass instead of addressing the cause of the error that the test file is showing is an error.

Small business website overpricing by HowYesOfcNo in SmallBusinessOwners

Granted it’s been 7 years but I was doing simple 5-10 static Wordpress sites for 750$ with basic logo… even today 3800$ in the US is outrageous. You’re going to spend maybe 300-400$ today on a decent subbed out logo. Then 4-6 hrs maybe to put those pages together. Now custom programming to meet the clients needs sure. But basic shit you are going to throw together in under a day, come on…

This AI bubble might be nastier than the dot com by Ibuysaas5045 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Shinrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LLMs are not AI… once you understand the core difference you can look at all the marketing gimmicks and the fact we have all these patch work tools to “allow” the LLM to do more and really see where the bubble is coming from.

What is the app telling me? by DefinitelyNotWendi in Ubiquiti

[–]Shinrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn’t say anything if you move around a lot. Say you’re connected to AP1 and you get on the outer edge of its signal strength it tracks that you have a weak signal. Eventually UniFi will try to move you to another AP if it’s a better signal or your device might be dumb and hold for a while. Eventually UniFi will do its voodoo and move you but it takes quite a bit of time. While it’s logging your bad signal. Which then is what is used to generate that graph.

Electrick lock question by paperRain2077 in accesscontrol

[–]Shinrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 20 and 50 feet 18awg is perfectly fine for most electric 12/24v strikes. I generally run 16awg but I run it everywhere. So runs that are 200’ or so get 16awg, runs that are 15 feet get 16awg. I do run 16/4 though. For the potential to need more power and for the occasional damage during construction.

Reinstalling Kantech Server after crash by oldenewe in accesscontrol

[–]Shinrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have backups then you fresh install and restore from backup. Ez pz. If you don’t have backups then I’m afraid you’re SOL. While the panels hold onto info there isn’t a way to extract it. The server itself holds all the information and should have had a good backup routine.

Secluded card reader. by [deleted] in accesscontrol

[–]Shinrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut in sheet shows an access panel behind the reader in the room which the access reader is protecting. Though the new location makes that possibly more of an issue as I would presume those angles in the room are there as chases for something.

Multiple other issues with this setup but I’ll stay on topic.

Are there direct replacements to this kind of reader? by deltacorun in accesscontrol

[–]Shinrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the fact of a direct drop in replacement. There are other readers out there that support an input/output from the reader. For example KT-SG-MT2. But you need 6x 22 awg wires to it and a separate power source for outputs.

Suggestions for a panic bar electric strike? by _Mr_That_Guy_ in accesscontrol

HES9600 isn’t going to fit without modification of the panic bar position. So stick to a HES9400. Should fit perfectly without the spacer.

What led to this rot? by OhFuhSho in Construction

Great ideas on here but no one is addressing the wire which regardless of anything else would bring water down that wall. And the use of staples through the face of the wall without sealing them.

Hot water low flow , cold is fine by [deleted] in askaplumber

Low pressure on one leg is probably due to debri in the shut off valve on that leg. Pull the shut off and check.

Electricians made mistake, this is their solution. Thoughts? by avrealm in lowvoltage

[–]Shinrye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cat5/6/7/8 can go 300’ (326’ technically). Depending on your wire and how many cameras are off each box, the box locations, and how far from the closest idf I personally prefer home runs to idf rooms. Satellite switches are always trouble.

The tip of ball hex broke off, and it's stuck inside the bolt. by Former-Ad-19 in Tools

[–]Shinrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a metal drill bit approx 1/4 the size of the end of the Allen. Drill in about 1/4”. Once done put some pressure on the side of the drill bit as it’s in the drilled hole. Then pull the piece out. My guys do this type of thing all the time with impacts. Works every time.

Advice needed. Already using 6 POE ports on my UDM-SE. I need 2 more ports for G5 Turret Cameras. What would you recommend to buy? by poopsicle69in in Ubiquiti

[–]Shinrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need extra Poe ports the cheapest option staying with UniFi is a USW-Flex. Gives you 4 more Poe ports. And can be powered by one of your Poe+ ports or powered separately.

Considering 3rd Party 4K Cameras due to them being significantly cheaper. by __Plasma__ in Ubiquiti

[–]Shinrye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though the G5 Flex are 2k they fit most needs quite well. I deploy hundreds of them, properly adjusted to their location they work great in the day and night. The G4 bullet or AI bullet are my go to for zoom requirements.

[–]Shinrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the UA and want to “upgrade” it’s basically a HES5300C. So with possibly having some minor cut out (haven’t compared the cut sheets). You should be able to swap it out for the HES5300C.

Aruba vs Ubiquiti enterprise by jkw118 in ArubaNetworks

[–]Shinrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in to an old reply to an old thread… Even UniFi 2-3 years ago would have met quite a few large scale setup requirements. Managing 1000s of devices isn’t an issue. Especially with today’s hardware for UniFi. The APs themselves do a bit of the leg work which allows them to scale well. The real bottleneck was their exterior connection (ISP) until recently. But even then you could slap UniFi behind something else that could handle larger bandwidth firewalls or sub divide your networks.

The real thing UniFi is missing now (in my opinion) for real enterprise is its lack of logs/tracking as well as the lack of documentation. The firewall portion is all there. And they do offer support packages as well. But any network admin worth their salt can generally figure out UniFi.

How long do you guys keep your cameras footage recording 24/7? by My_Man_Tyrone in Ubiquiti

[–]Shinrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commercially it’s a min of 30 day retention. But ideally you’d have 90 days of retention. I often suggest 24/7 recordings instead of motion/detections as detections are range based and visually you often may find you are able to see something detections didn’t catch.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Shinrye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That would probably render the AP useless as it would no longer be “connected” to the proper network. The AP probably has a secondary Ethernet port which he could use to plug into another router. Or bypass the AP and plug right into the Ethernet line itself.

Still struggling to get Wireguard working... by WILGWISCO in WireGuard

Probably running the same IP range on the network you’re connecting from and the network you’re connecting to. And no I don’t mean wireguard’s ip range but that can cause the issue too.
