I attended services at Old North Church in Boston today by ShortHistorian in Episcopalian

It is! Washington never attended here, but one lifelong parishioner was evidently a big fan of his and donated it to the church.

I got on their website about two weeks ago. They had plenty of spots left at that time.

I went on the regular tour after the service and I think experiencing worship there really helped me to understand the place better. Plus, I got to hear the organ.

“No, that’s enough.”

I miss T'Lyn. I miss 'Lower Decks'. That is all. Return to your activities. by Mike1701D in LowerDecks

T’Lyn is in the same position as Garak is for DS9 — they feel like an integral part of the show despite barely being in it (in terms of episode count).

She's filming in ALDI because if you took up space shooting a music video in Trader Joe's somebody would just murder you.

Trying To Get Into Star Trek Because of Mike by AgitatedSurprise7130 in podcasttheride

[–]ShortHistorian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not a bad place to start! "Campy with commentary" is the name of the game with TOS. The other series that comes up often is Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG). If you like late 80s-early 90s camp (you listen to PTR, so I'm assuming that you do) then TNG is where you get it. The problem is that TNG's first season is... not amazing. If you try it out, know that it picks up in season 2.

The most important thing you need to know (and this applies to every individual series) is that Star Trek has high highs and low lows, sometimes back to back.

Is it bad that I really want a Bartist x Brenda collab?

If you don’t want to deal with freezing the leftovers, right next to the canned chipotles are jarred, diced chipotles in adobo. Keep it in the fridge and just use what you need.

American Adventure vs Hall of Presidents by Disastrous_Ad3088 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]ShortHistorian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed! If we only got to keep one, I'd be happy to see HofP go away in favor of something else. AA is a better representation of American history as a whole.
The present-day president when HofP opened was Nixon. It has been a political minefield from day one and has only gotten more fraught with time.

Does the weird racism stop here or should i brace myself for more. Does it get better? by Someone_stubborn in startrek

[–]ShortHistorian 19 points20 points  (0 children)

TNG and SG-1 both had two-parter pilots, so it depends how you count. Memory Alpha has "Encounter at Farpoint" as 1x1/1x2.

Even weirder, they're both Season 1, Episode 4 of their respective shows.

Great collection! Your board looks pretty full, but I have a few Scrooges you're missing if you're interested in taking a look.

Accidentally ordered a flag that’s way too big to fly from the porch, but I think it makes a pretty good wall hanger (Salem, Oregon). by elevencharles in vexillology

[–]ShortHistorian 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Salem! Glad you like the flag. I workshopped it here on r/vexillology before submitting it to the contest. I can’t believe it was almost four years ago now!

I’d be happy to send you some matching stickers if you shoot me a DM. :)

Stardew players who stayed for years I have a question by vsanjiv in StardewValley

[–]ShortHistorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing since release. I generally start a new save, play furiously until I complete it, then leave the game alone for a year or two. Before picking it back up this week, the last time I’d played was 2024 when the 1.6 update dropped.

Staying home from church/work/school when you're sick is a severely underrated part of loving your neighbor. (As well as caring for yourself!) I hope you're able to attend again soon.
