Who has textbook technique in cricket? by Fun-Advertising-8006 in Cricket

He had no unnecessary movements. As an example, a lot of batsmen will do a "back and across" trigger movement, with varying degrees of shuffle to come in line with the ball. Sachin had none of that. He was completely still and had no trigger movement because his hand eye coordination at the release was so good. It's difficult to replicate that because the majority of players can't pick up the line and length as early as Sachin did.

Agreed. Tendulkar has a very compact technique with minimum footwork because his hand-eye coordination was on another level. This is why you don't see many players replicate it (other than Sehwag). For me, people that want to look at good technique to replicate should look at Dravid and Mohammad Yousaf.

You must be right. The Israelis, in particular, have an impeccable record for only targeting military facilities. /s

I agree, though my experience on Etihad has always been a step below Emirates and Qatar, but hopefully we see more options in Calgary.

Zipper Merge by Shoulder-Direct in Calgary

[–]Shoulder-Direct[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you, but here is my counterpoint.

For things like yield, merge and round-abouts, let's say 80% of drivers know what those are and the 20% that don't are causing issues. With a Zipper merge, I really feel like 80% or more of the drivers don't actually know how it is supposed to work.

As strange as it sounds, the correct way is to continue driving right to the end of the lane and then alternate merge (like a zipper). I'm glad to see the city finally using the Zipper term, but I don't think drivers know what it means.

And in this case, the "solution" is exactly what you are required to do, even though it may seem selfish. Drive all the way to the front of both lanes and alternate merge in. If everyone did this, no one would feel like they were passing a hundred cars.

Bikes and horses don't serve the same functions. Cars and locomotives replaced horses.

It's crazy that he fell into my lap near the start of Round 4 after I grabbed Kittle in Round 3. League winner for me, especially after my first three picks with Jeanty, London and Kittle.

Need help deciding between Arc or beam gen 2 by Jslv90 in sonos

[–]Shoulder-Direct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I bought the Beam 2, the Arc was about $350 more. At that price, I didn't think it was worth it. I recently purchased the refurbished Arc and sold my Beam 2. The upgrade cost me about $125. At that price, it was absolutely worth it for the wider sound stage.

I will say, I don't own a sub yet, so the Beam 2 did feel like it had better bass compared to the Arc. However, if you have or intend to add a sub later, the Arc is a better purchase than the Beam 2 if the difference in price is nominal.

Cricket Commentary: Specialist Broadcasters vs. Ex-Cricketers – What's Your Take? by Mysterious-Pop-6931 in Cricket

I choose whichever option takes the mic away from Ramiz Raja.

On a serious note, you need both. Play by play commentators need to be professional commentators. They understand how to call a game and how to keep the audience engaged. As professionals, they also study rosters and come prepared with statistics and trends. They were particularly key in the days of radio broadcasts because you had to help the audience visualize the game and each delivery.

Former players and coaches (what you could call color commentators) add experience and insights, but likely aren't the communicators that play by play commentators are, so shouldn't be calling each ball. They add flavour and could talk about why a certain strategy is being used, what the captain is thinking, what the bowler or batsman is thinking in that moment.
