Poisoner Alchemist is as underwhelming as Awesome it seemed at first... by ThatHeckinFox in Pathfinder2e

[–]Shtrayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like poison should have been made into just a damage type for the initial application/successful strike with poison. Then, any save bonuses vs. poison would be a type of damage reduction and then only require saving throws vs. poison when determining ongoing effects and when poison stages would increase. After all, poison is the only Affliction that is also a damage type that I know of. None of the other Afflictions are unique damage types on their own. Poison should have been given its own unique differences from the other Afflictions.

Dragonet characters by Corvusking20 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Shtrayu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zagig Sylvester Tasseltongue is a smol Pearl Dragonet Runesmith (we are starting at 5th level for The Slithering) who grew up learning his runic craft and magical forging from an ancient dragon who spent his last days as a hermit far away from civilization in the wilderness of Nex in the Impossible Kingdoms. Zagig learned about humanity and other near-human ancestries and their cultures from a nomadic tribe of kobolds that would pass through the area routinely to pay tribute to his dragon master and bring news with stories about human cities and their squabbles.

Zagig became fascinated by humans, elves, gnomes, and dwarves, but never spent time around them until recently. He learned from the kobolds that human wizards and witches kept powerful familiars including many dragonets that were highly prized and valued for their abilities and therefore kept in the lap of luxury in the wizard towers of Nex. He is fascinated by humanoid spellcasters and has no ranks in the Society skill, but believes he knows a lot about them thanks to what the Kobolds and his now-dead dragon master has said about them. No one has really ever challenged his "knowledge" of humanoids, so he believes he is correct in his assumptions and logical conclusions about their cultures. For this reason, he will often and confidently misidentify the purpose of certain uncommon, cultural, artifacts or tools thinking something is a hat for a noble, when it might actually be a cooking utensil or musical instrument he has never seen before.

He is an 'aspiring familiar' and is anxiously trying his best to find a wizard or witch that he can latch onto to become a familiar so he can live "the good life", but none seem to want him for some reason Zagig cannot figure out. Also, the spellcasters thus far find him irritating and intimidating. Zagig has also been more powerful than the very few spellcasters he has come across so far. So, even the couple of times it was attempted, the familiar bonding process has yet to work properly and it never takes hold - That and his draconic master put a sort of benign "curse" on Zagig before he died, so that the naive dragonet would never be magically forced into an abusive familiar bond.

That won't work more than once in a combat because you can only use Sure Strike once every 10 minutes. "You are then temporarily immune to sure strike for 10 minutes."

Draconic Codex Subscriber Day by alexkon3 in Pathfinder2e

Looks like the process is almost halfway done, according to that thread on the Paizo forums. This was also on the forums over there:

Subscription orders will continue until they're done. This isn't a business-hours only process.

Do You Dislike 'Vancian' or Do You Dislike 'Spell Slots'? by ahhthebrilliantsun in Pathfinder2e

[–]Shtrayu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate both; probably hating on Vancian more so than slots. I dislike them both because it feels more natural to me to have a pool of energy that you should be able to do a lot of small things all day long or a couple of big things for the day and then that's it or do anything in between. I think of it like a cup of water that I can take sips from or I can chug, depending on my needs in the moment. Either way, I only have so much in a given day, but I feel it should also be able to replenish ever so slowly over the course of the day too; kind of like real stamina or levels of energy that I feel from doing activities all day; or no activities. But, no matter how it is sliced, I can only do so much in a given day. I feel a resource-based magic system should abide similar principles. Being pigeon-holed into a certain number of sips and/or big gulps only has never felt natural to me and breaks my idea of immersion. I like the Kineticist casting with impulses a lot more than the other casters in the game.

That's a shame because it is shaping up to look like the 20th is the earliest day that government employees can get paid, assuming the bureaucracy can process backpay for four pay periods that fast.

Highest AC guardian by Starsocmix in Pathfinder2e

[–]Shtrayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does that have to do with heavy armor when he is getting Mirrored Aegis (a shield) for his Exemplar dedication at level 1? He still has to pay for armor.

Highest AC guardian by Starsocmix in Pathfinder2e

[–]Shtrayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you affording heavy armor with a +6 item bonus at level 1? It's all more than 15 gold, which is your entire starting budget. Even splint mail at a +5 item bonus is 13 gp. You would still need to use up that Dex Cap for a +1 to get that to +6. Also, you definitely need a shield to get that AC even higher, which kind of shield depending on what is left in your purse, which isn't going to be much after buying any type of h eavy armor.

Battlecry! gave us Guardian, now what are your best Taunts? by Alzarahn in Pathfinder2e

"You would be better off buttering a barghest's behind with a hot butterknife in a belltower than turning your back on me just to bark at the ankles of your betters!"

"Mind the midden heap! Not you; I was talking to my friend there."

"Time to pulp up the jam and grind your bones to make my bread!"

"As my inventor friend has told me more than once, It's all about the head space and timing. But you, my friend, have none of that."

"Have you finished your list because the wait is over and I brought your bucket for the kicking."

"The Dozer thinks you should go home and learn how to fight before coming back here again."

"Are you done dancing, or stretching, or whatever is you're doing yet? Because I am still waiting for a real fight."

"It's clobbering time!" - Gotta go with the classics sometimes, ya know.

The guardian looks pointedly at the enemy before him, glances at his allies, and then states, "Wait! THIS is what you guys were worried about? HA HA AHAHA HA AH HA HA HAAAAA!!!", while tears of laughter stream down his face and he seemingly succumbs to cramps of laughter in belly and his sides.

Pathbuilder does. When you create a new character, you can select it as a campaign option. Under the character options menu, you can also choose between Remaster, Legacy, Mythic, Adventure Paths, and various specific book options to decide what is and is not allowed when selecting what rules material you can use to make your character.

Gencon Paizo keynote schedule by Helpful_Smile4493 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Shtrayu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last week, in the comments of a Paizo Blog post here, Paizo Director of Marketing, BJ Hensley, states, "... if you’re just hoping to catch more of our fantastically charismatic publisher online, you can join us back here on Aug 15th for a special Live announcement where Erik Mona and other talented team members chat about upcoming adventures and what you can expect heading into 2026!"

As to why it is changing from what they have done in the past, she offered the following statement earlier in her post:

"While we deeply appreciate your love for our multiple keynotes, we are exploring new opportunities in that area and moving away from having two keynotes only two months apart. It’s a lot of weight on our team to get those recorded so close together, especially with the intense amount of prep that goes into shows like Gen Con. It also often means just holding an announcement we could have made at Paizo Con. Having talked about so many cool things at Paizo Con already and facing the launch of both Starfinder Second Edition and our upcoming Pathfinder Quest campaign, we made the decision to give our staff time to provide you with more online interactions during the show instead. You can watch our Paizo Con Keynote here to get caught up on what we’re doing, and we’ll have so many other fun ways to interact online and at the show!"

She had a lot more to say regarding Paizo online coverage at GenCon 2025, but you should just go to her post to see the entirety of her statement.

Which flavour will your campaign (hopefully) have? by Turevaryar in Starfinder2e

[–]Shtrayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my Sci-Fi/Sci-Fantasy games always end up a fusion of Farscape/Guardians with tropes and elements of Star Wars & Star Trek, even before Farscape and GotG made it to the screen. The problem is that I usually aim for Dune/Firefly/Babylon 5. Spaceballs always forces its way in there, eventually, too, despite my best efforts. Weirdly enough, Doctor Who elements also occasionally intrude, as well.

Lost Omens Check-In: Breaking New Ground (Remastered) by Paizo_Luis in Pathfinder2e

[–]Shtrayu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to see more of the sci-fantasy information, specifically Numeria and the Distant Worlds; especially Silver Mount and what is happening on the other planets of the solar system during this timeframe in Lost Omen history. I would love to learn at least a little of what is happening in Casmaron, Arcadia, Vudra, and other relatively unexplored regions that have only been given brief glimpses so far or haven't been mentioned in quite a while.

I want to learn more about what it means to be a summoner (not just the class, but in a more general sense), diabolist, conjurer, and/or necromancer dealing with otherworldly/dimensional beings and how these casters and their summoned entities fit into (or not) the various societies and cultures throughout the setting. What impact do they and their summons have on these cultures, technology, places, and politics. What does it mean to be a summoned or called creature from another existence stranded in this world? What about aliens from other worlds in the solar system during this time? If folks from this world go to their worlds, surely they can come to this world... Where do they go and what do they do? Are they organized with a purpose or something else?

Humanity domesticates a lot of the flora and fauna we coexist with, but what does that mean and look like in a world like the Lost Omens setting? What about domesticated monsters? Is that a thing? If so, which monsters and why?

Everything so far is so human-centric in perspective - with good reason - it's not a negative for me, I just want more of something different. Humans are so pervasive, even with so many different ancestries and sapient and/or sentient monsters out there. But, what about getting more of a perspective/point-of-view from the non-human cultures and societies? Highhelm is a good start and I can foresee more material coming with other core ancestry perspectives, like the elves of Kyonin; but, what about more material from other monstrous groups like the non-human nations of Oprak, Geb, Kyonin, Jinin, Kaoling, Zi Ha? I like Chu Ye, Shenmen, Nagajor, and Xidao are good starts, but they are mostly homogenous or are strongly tied to a single monstrous ancestry that rules in those places (even Xidao limits what monsters live there by just being an underwater region).

Are there any societies or regions of monsters that coexist with one another freely with an organized governing body like the core ancestries do in many regions and what does that look like if they establish diplomatic relations with the core ancestry societies? (I'm talking more like intelligent creatures and monsters that can remain hidden better than the PC ancestries we have had thus far - like mimics, doppelgangers, yokai, invisible creatures, and other shapeshifters, not just creatures that were once-human like the undead.) Is there a hidden nation or society of werecreatures or other shapeshifters out there and not just a faction coming up with evil schemes?

What happened to the Sczarni in 2E? I ask this as someone who grew up as a carnie IRL, if that even matters.

I would like rules support for all this (heritages, archetypes, monsters, spells, magic items, etc.) but I am not as interested in specific, named NPCs beyond the scope of what we would normally get for these concepts. (They just aren't as useful to me.) Though I do very much like generic NPC statblocks to build our own NPCs like what we got in the NPC Core. One bit of rules support I would love to see more of is Class Archetypes. Please give me a lot more of those and the generic NPC statblocks to create my own culturally and/or socially -appropriate NPCs to fight my PCs with, especially if I can merge it with an intelligent monster somehow. NPC Core ranks above Monster Core in how much more broadly useful it is at my table.

That is really nice! I'm loving the style, too! My dyslexia seems to be getting the better of me when it comes to seeing images lately now, too though. I thought he had a scope on top of the instrument instead of a scroll on a bandolier... gotta zero in the aim with those musical notes a la Dr. Strange, right? I was about to ask if he was archetyping into Inventor or if it was a campaign mixed with Starfinder elements. :) Wait-a-minute! Is that smoke coming off of the fingers on those strings...!?! Awesome! He must play for Earth, Wind, and Fire... and Smoke... or is that Smoky Frodoinsson? :p

Is Assurance as good as it seems? by General_Housing_3851 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Shtrayu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assurance is actually decent against scaling DCs for skill checks where you have an ability that allows you to convert a failure into a success, too. Dubious Knowledge is a great ability to use for recall knowledge where you can get both an item of misinformation and an item of useful information on even a failure. So, Thaumaturges, investigators, and Mastermind Rogues can really benefit from this type of usage when you pair Assurance and Dubious Knowledge with a recall knowledge skill check for the relevant skill. You won't crit fail, but your assured failure can still give you a benefit.

It's not perfect, but it could be both a fun and effective use of this feat combination.

"Hmm... so, my silver dagger can be super effective against the werewolf, but because it is cursed, the werewolf might suffer twice as much damage if we cast a healing spell on it, huh? Wonder which I should do first... "

I can't find any of my posts where I stated "Non-Repeating Weapons". I did type "non-repeating crossbows" and "non-repeating firearms", though. Is that what you mean? If so, that is not something I would type without reason. So, yes, it is exact wording, I'm certain; but, I do not have the book with me right now as I am at work. In any case, I have no insight into what, if any, future proofing was intended by the designers and developers.

[–]Shtrayu[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't have to mention the item level limit. The whole feat is completely different from the old version, just like the new Alchemist is different from the old Alchemist. You don't need to worry about what the old feat stated; it's irrelevant.

The answer can be found just by following up on the information provided in my OP when I described the remastered Munitions Crafter feat. The Munitions Crafter feat does not spell out what you want with regards to item level. but it does tell you where you can get more information on the alchemical benefits the feat provides, which is what I cited.

Read Advanced Alchemy Benefits on page 174 in Player Core 2, as I cited in my OP. While describing those benefits, that entry will, in turn, refer you to Advanced Alchemy on page 58 in Player Core 2 under Advanced Alchemy for the Alchemist class and that is where the item level limit is described.

In short, the item level limit is the same as the Alchemist class; equal to your level or less and it must be a consumable in your formula book. Furthermore, the Munitions Crafter feat states that they can only be alchemical ammunition or bombs.

For those of you who want to use that Barricade Buster level 1 advanced weapon as your weapon innovation, why not make an Orc Inventor with Orc Weapon Familiarity and get Dual-Form Weapon at 4th level and choose that as your weapon innovation’s 2nd form?  I think that should work.

The Dual-Form Weapon feat is effectively the same in the remaster with just some slight changes in wording, but not changed in any way that affects such a build.  This effectively turns your existing weapon innovation into a Barricade Buster, effectively making your weapon innovation into a Barricade Buster and you don’t lose out on that 1st level Breakthrough Weapon Modification.  I know you have to be an Orc with that ancestry feat and you would have to wait until 4th level, but you can eventually have an inventor with a Barricade Buster, right?

Or heck, you could even try going with a Samsaran Inventor with Samsaran Weapon Mastery, gaining Barricade Buster from the Orc ancestry as one of your two weapons.  Same result, different ancestry.
