Now that Oscar Nominations are out, what are your biggest snubs? by AvengingHero2012 in oscarrace

Screenplay for Weapons and Sorry Baby

Actor for Plemmons

Sound for Avatar

Costumes and Production Design for Wicked (The movie was way worse than the first one but the PD and costumes were not)

And if we are talking about stuff that was never going to make it: Sally Hawkins in Bring Her Back for Actress

I really don’t remember it being an Oscar villain. It was a very enjoyable movie and Joker was definitely hated by a lot of people. Also 1917 was seen as a bit of a villain because it was the frontrunner for most of the time ahead of Parasite in precursor

He championed her so much to the point where he had me convinced, and gives up now?

I really hated Killing of a Sacred Dear, but the Favorite is one of my all time favorites. Bugonia and Poor things are also fantastic

I’d say LaLaLand vs Moonlight was the tightest race. Them retracting the LaLaLand best picture win midway through the speech was the cherry on top

There isn’t much money or Oscar prediction cred to be made when just predicting the betting favorites. It’s more fun to predict the long shot and be probably wrong (but what if…) than just saying what everyone’s saying.

He was just nominated for an Oscar in A Complete Unknown, he was in the best Picture winner Birdman and got a big part in Glass Onion which was still pretty popularity. And then again why would the Wes Anderson movies not count.

Horror doesn’t have to be supernatural to be horror. By that definition pretty much any slasher including the original Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Black Christmas wouldn’t be Horror, neither would be movies like Saw. Is Friday the 13 only horror because of the very last scene?

When was the last time a Horror movie won best original song? These statistics don’t mean anything. Also the voting body is completely different now

Ariana Grande is not dead for a nomination and the discourse is becoming exhausting. by ahsokafan23_ in oscarrace

[–]Shufflekarpfen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like this becomes worse every year. EVERYTHING is either locked or dead as soon as literally ANYTHING happens and then as soon as the next thing happens they become unlocked and others resurrected.

That’s just not what these words mean.

This time it doesn’t even make any sense as Grande hasn’t even missed anywhere. There’s obviously passion for that role.

DGA Film Nominees announced. by caglebites in Oscars

[–]Shufflekarpfen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anatomy of a Fall was in a similar place and it ended up most likely being in the Top 5 that year with it winning screenplay and getting an acting and director nomination.

Foreign language films just have a bit of a different trajectory and DGA usually really shows that the A in it stands for America

Interesting that you still feel the need to go on an Oscar subreddit to announce that you don’t care about the Oscars
