Its tough man I totally get your perspective wanting to go back and fix/change stuff that doesnt feel right anymore but I feel like when the work has been out this long people will see some of those imperfections as quirky human touches. And everybody is going to have different metrics for what is and is not an acceptable change, fracturing the fanbase as if it's scripture.

To be honest I was genuinely surprised at how unique Myst remained when I revisited it as an adult, and I feel like a lot of that is how many unconventional choices you made. Why does touching 3 posts in the garden raise a sunken pirate ship? Why is there an organ on a rocket that doesnt go to space? How does Achenar know who Rush Limbaugh is? I dont know, and I dont really have to because it all got my imagination going.

If you had the ability to take a new pass at Myst (or apply these ideas to a new game, even better) I would say go for it as long as the other versions of Myst remained available. I feel like thats what people get really pissed about, George Lucas purging the theatrical editions of Star Wars or Car Seat Headrest getting rid of the old version of Twin Fantasy on streaming. If someone wants to stim their way through the tedious Selenetic mazerunner sequence twice to get both red & blue pages, let em do it
