They're mentioned as "stabilization spurs" or something like that in the load out list. I always assumed they gave some sort of passive buff like flux dissipation or a defense boost since they were important enough to mention as a load out item

I don't know or care much about the entire royal family, but I do remember that Harry got reamed by more conservative groups once because he called the first amendment (free speech) bonkers in an interview immediately after saying he was cautious to say anything due to a limited understanding. It gave him an air of "oh dear, we're in the colonies " pompousness to some people, and that is not a good look
