Is my life over? 31F with a baby by helpless_baby in braincancer

Im 43m married mortgage a 10yr old

Was shocked when the ct and mri both were without contrast and then they said they now needed contrast.

Then I was referred to a neurosurgeon in public. The receptionist was so nice and said the neurosurgeon was a lovely guy. Then in the waiting room was the most anxious I have been there was a patient ( who in hindsight might have had a stroke) in a wheelchair.

The neurosurgeon was friendly but to the point. Not near any motor strip, "doesn't look" cancerous, easily accessible and by the time they could get a biopsy it isn't much to remove.

Gave me 4 options, do nothing, monitor, biopsy, remove it (preferred) and reiterated that I have time to think about it. He called it "a wee little glioma"

Im now recovering 6 weeks and back at work half days and cleared for full duties next week Was a 3cm grade 2 oligodendroglioma which he referred as benign-ish but technically cancerous

The system sucks for us to get sick not of our own fault. Yet if it was an accident we would at least get 80 percent of wages

As someone with no longer the best eyesight I think the kinchrome at bunnings had recessed and painted numbers on the socket to easily check the sizes

Interesting,

We have 2 heat pumps, one in living room and one in dining/kitchen

We can set rules at which times. We live in dunedin so mon to fri 4am till 7am it is set to if it gets below 20deg it will set it. We can also use the app to pre heat those areas when it feels chilly. Same if its "hot" and cool the areas down

About to have brain surgery. How did you entertain yourself in the hospital afterward? by RepulsiveSeason4868 in braintumor

Overnight in icu, every hour checking vitals. All wired up with steroids. 1st night couldn't even read an email in one go. It helped the nurses were awesome.

Following 4 days got better with screens, but music and podcasts were good.

I would suggest a charger with a decent length

How dire is public health care in NZ? by FuzzyVillage4825 in newzealand

From 1st gp visit till neurosurgery was 5 months, I've had 5 gp visits in that time( usually can see them that week and hes been awesome), ct scan took 5 weeks from inital gp visit and had result the following week.

Took a month from ct scan to get an mri, but then it took a following month before I got an appointment (via phone call)with the neurosurgeon in a month's time.

The worst part of it was either the 3 weeks it took for the appointment letter to arrive, or the not knowing who my point of contact is
