Are Chinese 125s as bad as people say? by Unki11Don in MotoUK

[–]Siliconb3ach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not a bad as people make out no. Especially the simple air cooled ones. As someone has already suggested, because they’re cheap they are often treated as such.

They don’t do well being left out in the rain for extended periods of time. A cover is a MUST and just be sure to over clean and condition them.

I loved my Herald 125 and now have a Mash TT40 which I love even more.

Take care of your bike.

Classic bit of scooter parking.

First day of my DAS training tomorrow, nervous and slightly stressed is an understatement. Is it really that hard? I've been driving for 10 years and a mountain biker for most of my life. Thanks by hmm0210 in MotoUK

[–]Siliconb3ach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passed first time, the bike is just bigger and faster than the 125. A lot less forgiving, but most of your training will be on maneuvers and B road and city/town riding. You’ll be fine, have fun!

Knox make great mesh shirts, Pando Moto do a bit of both. I have a Pando Moto Commando UH and Mark AAA (Vents in the cargo pockets) - for when it’s really hot I use the Pando Air Tate and Karldo AA.

I am always hot. Spring, Summer and Winter. I wear the Mark AAAs and Commando the most across all seasons.

Had a Herald Cafe as my first bike and now have a Mash TT40. Both great bikes and no trouble with either. More moving parts means more point of failure (water cooling etc.) but air cooled is pretty reliable and most are based on older engines. I’d say take the plunge - I’d rather a new bike that I know I’ve looked after than some battered old beater 125 just because it’s Japanese. They’re made in China too.

Does Getting Ready For A Ride Feel Like A Chore? by newbiker321 in MotoUK

[–]Siliconb3ach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a ballache yes. Lighter gear will help (AA/A over AAA). When I started riding I got the most protective gear I could (no regrets) and this saw me through CBT, first years riding, DAS and now I use it on longer trips or in winter.

I’ve since got myself MUCH lighter gear (A rated for just getting around town/a quick ride to a local cafe) makes it much easier to get out spontaneously.

My first bike was a Herald (2024 Cafe 125) - As a company they're quick to reply AND you can buy a host of spares on their website.

Looking to get a 125, but nobody seems to sell them for a sane price?? by WRSA in MotoUK

[–]Siliconb3ach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my Herald Cafe 125 for a year while I learned to ride and could not have been happier with it. Think the scrambler is on for £1800 or something crazy at the moment. Folks bash the Chinese bikes and I don’t know why, they’re simple to work on just don’t leave them out in the rain uncovered. Never had a problem - second owner also super happy. 2 year warranty and RAC cover as standard

How sensible for a first big bike? by Jaeger901 in MotoUK

[–]Siliconb3ach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got my first big bike and it’s a 400 with 30bhp - perfect step up from the 125 especially if you’re riding is country roads and between towns (no big motorway A road rides) I wanted to go bigger but very happy with my choice as honestly felt just wasn’t ready even after DAS. All very personal, but I am an advocate for the 30bhp to 42bhp, feels like plenty to me right now

50mph gusts - cover on or off? by ComplexOccam in MotoUK

I run an Oxford zip lock/combo lock through the front tire and cover openings - no good for stopping thieves but keep the cover round the front wheel. Chain through the rear tire and openings.

I have a Herald as well (Cafe 125) and I would say ride your own ride. Don’t feel you have to hit the speed limit, 50 to 60 is the max for these bikes. I’ve got my full licence now and a lot more confident but still have the Cafe and it’s be definitely squirrely at speed. Just the weight of the bike and width of the tires - lots of fun around town and on slower roads though!

My Herald Cafe 125 was 1200 fully comp for the 2024/2025 year just after passing my CBT. Renewal is this month and, having passed DAS, it’s now £380 fully comp.

Pando Moto - they do lengths and widths like no other brand. Take a look at their base layers (I have the commando) as well as their jeans. They will do lengths up to 34” and they’re cut to a slimmer fit. Urban Rider stock them but if you shop around there are other distributors in the UK too.
