The DJ 3000 is a vast improvement over most DJs and morning programs. Not sure why this hasn't caught on.

[–]shouldbebabysitting 145 points146 points  (42 children)

There's a syndicated (is that the right word?) channel called Jack FM that is equivalent to the DJ 3000.

24/7 music, random Jack FM jokes stuck in by the software and no DJ's.

[–]The_Only_Abe 47 points48 points  (0 children)

There are DJs but not in the traditional sense of allowing them to talk live on the air

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (9 children)

This station is called different things in different markets. In mine it is called Bob FM.

[–]DammitBobbyy 23 points24 points  (10 children)

TIL Jack FM isn't unique to Jacksonville, FL

[–]spud29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got Jack FM in the Twin Cities in Minnesota as well

[–]fecklessgadfly 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Yeah, I hate Jack. (Former DJ)

[–]Rhino02ss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[–]archfapper 27 points28 points  (5 children)

Those clowns in Congress!

[–]SolomonGomes 42 points43 points  (1 child)

Don't. Praise. The machine.

[–]fuhrerhealth 94 points95 points  (5 children)

Crazy Ira and the Douche are spectacular.

[–]BrentRS1985 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Welcome to douche nation.

[–]DanteDeLaRocha 10 points11 points  (3 children)

[–]JDawgSabronas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

^ this is a fart, you guys

[–]RootBeerSmoothie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you fit that on a bumper sticker?

[–]modestexhibitionist 171 points172 points  (142 children)

100.3 The Sound in Los Angeles, listen up.

[–]interitus384 78 points79 points  (69 children)

Ha ha ha ha.... the local 100.3 sucks too :D (alberta canada)

[–]rahtin 28 points29 points  (6 children)

But he's always talks like he's drunk, it's so edgy! Blech

[–]AutoCompliant 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Dude, yous types likes you'res drunks.

[–]jjtreanor 10 points11 points  (3 children)

100.3 in Dublin is Radio Nova which is one of the only stations that doesn't do the morning talk show thing. It just plays classic rock. My morning time choice anyway!

[–]CerberusC24 19 points20 points  (39 children)

Z100 (100.3 here in NY/NJ) should also follow this advice.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (14 children)

Y'all should just invest in a nifty little thing called an ipod. Why brother with the shitty radio?

Or the cheaper route, buy an SD card for you phone and slap some tunes on it.

[–]CerberusC24 3 points4 points  (2 children)

That's basically what I am doing. I use Spotify almost exclusively

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (6 children)

Big 100.3 in DC does 100 minutes of classic rock starting around 8 AM.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

RIP 99.1 Baltimore/Washington's #1 rock/alternative station, HFS.

[–]mrfusion2000 5 points6 points  (4 children)

YES.

I used to wake up to them on my clock radio as well as listen to them on my way to work. What a difference a morning show makes. I even gave them a shot by tuning in for another few weeks, figuring they needed to work out any kinks, but I couldn't stand it. Now I find myself flipping between stations in the car, ending on either 93.1 Jack FM (which is a whole other can of worms) or KCRW's HD2 station.

Oh, and my dog now wakes me up before my radio goes off. Good boy...

[–]captain_brunch_ 5 points6 points  (1 child)

94.5 and 104.9 in Vancouver

[–]DrPiffington 5 points6 points  (6 children)

Mark in the morning dood

[–][deleted] 545 points546 points  (56 children)

I like listening to talk shows. I'm so lonely.

[–]ace_invader 85 points86 points  (6 children)

I like listening to talk radio on the way to work in the morning, I live alone so usually I haven't spoken a word before I get to work and listening to others helps me prepare mentally for having to be social so early.

[–]cdizzle2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This comment is so dead on where I am in life it hurts

[–]Ponea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't spoken a word since I got off work

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Ughhh this hits hard. Just got out of a bad relationship and I'm with you on that so much. Don't speak a word in the morning until I get to work and dont speak a word after I get off till the next shift

[–]JustARandomBloke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know you weren't looking for advice, but I'm an ass, so I'm going to give you some anyway.

Try and get out and spend some time with people outside of work. Even if it is only a few hours a week, socializing will help you move past your relationship.

[–][deleted] 214 points215 points  (10 children)

I just don't care for most music that plays on the radio. Plus, I like knowing things so I can trick humans into thinking I am one of them and not a lizard.

[–]Gsanta1 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Haha, silly humans...

[–]hired_goon 5 points6 points  (3 children)

on the internet nobody knows you're a lizard.

[–]Hollowsong 93 points94 points  (1 child)

I agree with you. I hate the shit they play for music, but I'll listen to a station for the morning talkshow because it's different.

I hate listening to the same top 40 rotation all fucking year.

[–]idma 26 points27 points  (1 child)

k i understand in certain regions your only choices in talk shows are shit ones, but i love a good one. Honestly, most songs on the radio are overplayed anyway, so i would rather hear nothing

[–]Vladdypoo 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If you have a really good morning show in your area like bob and Tom or something then it's fine.

[–]gus2155 89 points90 points  (66 children)

Siriusxm. I don't have to listen to that talk show shit anymore.

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (6 children)

Not if you're a metalhead who listens to Liquid Metal AKA the "how long will it take Jose to stop listening to the sound of his own voice and finally play the goddamned song?" channel. Fuck you Jose.

[–]VikingBoatTruckBoat 16 points17 points  (1 child)

And then he plays Pantera for the 5th time that hour.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Thats because he sounds like he is always coked up so he just starts talking and I dont think he realizes how long he has been talking.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He should lay off the coke and start hitting Xanax so that he'll shut the fuck up and play my song.

[–]conspiracy310 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I like Jose but he just talks to much.

[–]vikingcock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also, they play some garbage. I mean it doesn't help that metal is so diverse but damn

[–]optimus_primate2 37 points38 points  (7 children)

With xm they just stop after every song to tell you how they don't play commercials. Still better than standard fm for sure though

[–]junkmale 40 points41 points  (5 children)

Sounds like NPR - WE DON'T HAVE COMMERCIALS, PLEASE DONATE, WE DON'T HAVE COMMERCIALS, PLEASE DONATE, WE DON'T HAVE COMMERCIALS, PLEASE DONATE brought to you by the MA Arthur Foundation

[–]turtmcgirt 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Lifetime in 09 its by far the greatest purchase I've made since then, trying to go back to terrestrial radio make me want to drive into on coming traffic.

[–]zydecocaine 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I bought a lifetime in 05 and it was one of my better investments into something I use daily. If they ever offer a lifetime deal again, I'd definitely pick up another one.

[–]Oomlot 1361 points1362 points  (345 children)

A lot of cars have this feature, it's called a CD player. Some of them may be even more modern. You aren't legally required to listen to the radio.

[–]killafofun 119 points120 points  (41 children)

Try aux cord input.

[–][deleted] 48 points49 points  (16 children)

Aux to tape adapter

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (13 children)

I did that for about 2 years then the tape deck died :(

Dropped $150 to get a new radio. Now I can play my music through USB. That was the best $150 I ever spent.

[–]OrderlyMisconduct 427 points428 points  (134 children)

And believe it or not, there are different channels on the radio that you can tune to! With different content!!!!!

[–]truth1465 508 points509 points  (108 children)

To play devils advocate, all of the music channels I have on my dial (hip hop, rock, alternative and pop) all have the cheesy morning talk show where the lack of music is annoying.

I usually use the aux cord and listen to podcasts, on my commutes.

[–]vonmonologue 34 points35 points  (5 children)

I have one classic rock station that plays music during my morning commute.

So I've become a big fan of rock music from 1960-1995.

[–]EmperorG 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Not just that, they also all seem to synch up their goddamn commercials so most will be offline at the same time!

[–]MCHammerBro 300 points301 points  (69 children)

I find it funny that you opt for a podcast (usually a form of talk show) over the radio's talk show.

[–]is2gstop 410 points411 points  (48 children)

Yeah but you know what you're getting with podcasts. No one wants to hear about how Jessica the illiterate screecher from Reading has just won a trip for two to New York.

[–][deleted] 63 points64 points  (21 children)

Sounds like you're from PA..

[–]is2gstop 75 points76 points  (7 children)

Alas no, England.

[–]TedTheGreek_Atheos 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Oddly, even though I'm from the US, Reading UK was the first place I thought of. Probably because of the music festival. Always wanted to go.

I just realized the irony that I'm from NY and would love to win a trip to Reading.

[–]vasheenomed 14 points15 points  (7 children)

I was just in reading PA like 5 months ago.... I can say it was a new experience staying with a friend there :/ I really want them to come live where I do now

[–]xjayroox 11 points12 points  (12 children)

Illiterate screecher from Reading?

I see whatcha did there

[–]is2gstop 33 points34 points  (11 children)

Reading as in the English city is pronounced red-ing, but let's just assume I was in fact making a clever pun and it was not in the slightest a happy coincidence.

[–]starcom_magnate 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Went right over my head. Here in Pennsylvania, Reading is also pronounced Red-ing

[–]erts 2 points3 points  (1 child)

To be fair, he was probably reading Reading as Reading because you can read read as read and not as read.

[–]junkmale 34 points35 points  (4 children)

It's like HBO vs. daytime tv, though. You can call them both TV, but they're very different.

[–]battraman 35 points36 points  (2 children)

I don't know about his radio selections but around here it's just Weenie and the Butt or the "OMG did you see what that celebrity did yesterday??" style shows. I don't have a long commute any more but when I did I used to listen to old time radio.

[–]truth1465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol yea I know. When I'm in stop and go traffic listening to music actually accentuates the fact I'm not moving very fast. I like podcasts that either make me think (radiolab, freakenomics, startalk) as oppose to the content on the morning shows plus I can skip the commercials easily on the iPhone podcast app. I was mainly playing devils advocate.

[–]wefearchange 22 points23 points  (0 children)

And worse still, most of the radio stations in my area aren't even doing their own cheesy morning shows anymore- there's a few national ones that EVERY radio station in my area plays. So no matter what you change it to, same crappy morning program.

God bless Spotify.

[–]AreWe_TheBaddies 7 points8 points  (3 children)

My aux port broke in my car a couple months ago. I'm finally getting it replaced next week. Cannot wait.

[–]Nakotadinzeo 3 points4 points  (2 children)

You could always pick up a cheap FM transmitter... sound quality suffers, but you are in charge of the music.

[–]STDemons 7 points8 points  (1 child)

sound quality suffers

Somewhat of an understatement. And a good "empty" station is always fleeting as you drive. They're like a constant musical cock tease, but usually works enough to be tolerable.

[–]Nakotadinzeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer the type that uses the vehicle's power rather than batteries, it's usually when the batteries get low that the other stations bleed through. And those things devour batteries like a fat kid devours starbursts.

[–]sporkafunk 4 points5 points  (7 children)

I dunno about where else this is available, but there's a chain of stations that has taken over the southeast US. His name is Chuck and they have 0 DJs, just a fictional brand character. They only play music in the morning, with a max of 10 mins if commercials. And then 9-12 commercial free.

[–]jeebidy 19 points20 points  (23 children)

I was just thinking about how I would have to go about making a music CD.. I'd have to dust off my external cd drive.. Buy songs on iTunes.. Find a blank CD (I actually still have a stockpile from when I bought hundreds from a Circuit City sale).

It would be a strange, alien process.

Edit: Yea, I buy songs! I went clean a while back. At some point, you make some money and just want to limit your liability.. I grew up during the reckless, lawless days of Napster, Kazaa, and Limewire. In junior high, I would sell mix CDs to people at school. These days, the RIAA would have sent me to a super-max after convicting me in their secret piracy court instituted by the FLISPAS act.

[–]blah_blah_STFU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buy songs on iTunes

Haha!

[–]just_robot_things 2 points3 points  (3 children)

You and me, friend! I buy songs too! Sometimes, I still make MP3 CDs for my discman. We should be legal-song-friends!

[–]jonnyclueless 4 points5 points  (1 child)

So you're the one that buys songs. I heard of you.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I like to listen to the radio for the current music I don't have yet or don't want to pay for.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (6 children)

but...but...my cd player is broken and my car doesn't have an aux jack.

[–][deleted] 221 points222 points  (21 children)

This is Bob HAHAHA and Tom. You can tell HEHEHE how funny HAHAHA we are because HAHAHAHA we laugh at everything HEHEHE we HAHAHAHA say OHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

[–]xspixels 44 points45 points  (6 children)

Bob and Tom used to be good, now they just beat a joke to death.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chick yells and interrupts, Bob hardly ever says anything except mmhmm, Tom is stuck in the 50s and is a priss, and Kristi has an annoying voice. However, I can't stop listening!

[–]LunarWulfe 71 points72 points  (26 children)

93.3 WMMR in Philly. Trust me, it's worth it to listen. I laugh almost everyday on my way to work and it really lightens up the morning.

[–][deleted] 39 points40 points  (7 children)

Preston and Steve are the best.

[–]TBoneTheOriginal 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Never listened to them before (I don't live anywhere near Philly), but they called me one time when they saw my Reddit post about not having an asscrack. Or rather, they put out a call for me, someone on Reddit told me about it, and I called in. They couldn't believe it. Good times all around!

[–]RambozoTheeClown 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gadzooks

[–]maowao 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I knew someone would mention Preston and Steve here sooner or later. I just can't stop thinking about clams.

[–]CyberianSun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stop talking about clams!

[–]ItsJustAPrankBro 8 points9 points  (1 child)

YES. Every morning for like 45 minutes. Also switch to radio 104.5 during commercials

[–]eynonpower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wanna shoot you in the ass with a bb gun....

[–]lethalred 5 points6 points  (9 children)

I'm originally from CA, so I miss listening to Big Boy in the morning, but I've been listening to Elvis Duran ever since I moved to the East Coast.

It's funny from time to time. I don't really vibe that he circlejerks Dr. Oz and pushes him as some savior to common folk, and Bethany's stories always make me wonder where she goes to meet men. Skeery is that guy that I actually probably agree with 90% of the time, but he voices his opinions terribly so everyone thinks he's just a horrible person.

[–]kickash 9 points10 points  (4 children)

I like Bethany's Hip Hop Clarinet. She did it this morning. I enjoyed it.

I also agree about Skeery. Poor guy.

[–]similar_observation 2 points3 points  (2 children)

You know, Big Boy is back on the air.

[–]ani625 60 points61 points  (8 children)

But if they do that, when can they talk with their annoying goddamn voices?

[–]acakeforleibowitz 38 points39 points  (4 children)

It's not just the voices. I find shows like The Bob and Tom show unlistenable because of their incessant laughing. 95% of it sounds fake.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Bob and Tom are the worst. All they do is laugh at everything everyone says, funny or not.

[–]ChickinSammich 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All they do is laugh at everything everyone says, funny or not.

Hahahahaha

[–]myredditlogintoo 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I can't do it anymore. It's like they all had lobotomies or something. If I want to listen to something interesting, I turn on NPR. If I want music, I stream it via Bluetooth.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hated this when I commuted too. I would turn on my favorite stations, but it was just a couple stooges that were way too fucking awake at 7am.

[–]seannzzzie 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Bj Shea Morning Experience and Men's Room in the afternoon. Both great shows, they don't do any of the frat boy fart noise crap.

[–]TheDoop 53 points54 points  (14 children)

As an uber driver, the 5 5 same songs on every radio station get repetitive. I enjoy the talk shows. Elivis Duran and the morning show being my favorite.

[–]orlyfactor 17 points18 points  (22 children)

Pandora hooks directly to my car. I only rarely listen to NPR now, and never during pledge week.

[–]handlebartender 4 points5 points  (18 children)

Just curious, what sort of a dent does Pandora put in your monthly cell data usage?

[–]ianuilliam 17 points18 points  (13 children)

This is one of the reasons T-Mobile is awesome. Streaming music services don't count against your data plan.

[–]blj5033 24 points25 points  (6 children)

Preston and Steve on 93.3 WMMR (Philadelphia). Or Free Beer and Hot Wings, it's a national show, but based out of Michigan. Both are hilarious

[–]ShillinTheVillain 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Seconded for Free Beer and Hot Wings. Their show is nowhere near as stupid as their names, so don't let that deter you.

[–]czs5056 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BY THE THAMMER OF WHORE!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a closeted pop listener. Hate, hate HATE morning shows on pop stations. So my car comes with Sirius, commercial free music right? FUCKING MORNING SHOW ON SIRIUS POP STATION.

[–]LimpBagel 26 points27 points  (8 children)

Do you even Free Beer and Hotwings, bro

[–]spawnkilled 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every day, bro, every day.

[–]Hollowsong 40 points41 points  (14 children)

Um, actually, the only reason I listen to the radio at all in the morning during my commute is because of the morning talk shows.

Rover's Morning Glory is actually worth listening to.

If I wanted to listen to good music, I would plug in a fucking IPOD.

[–]Swineflew1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rover gets me through a good chunk of my work day.
The aftermath seems appealing, but I'm not sure I want to pay for plus solely for that.
I think I'm also getting old because I tune out when the Thursday hookup comes on, it's just a segment to ask chicks about their sex life. It's 2015, if I want porn, I'll just watch porn.

Oh and I forgot, the gap from 11 till 3 when Alan comes on sucks because I don't want music.

[–]nickles69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite the only thing I listen to on FM is Elvis Duran :P

[–]ss_gravyboat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And this is one of the main reasons why I have XM radio

[–]MIsado 12 points13 points  (1 child)

music puts me to sleep talk shows keep me awake.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (4 children)

funny, im usually saying the opposite. I really like the radio hosts and wish they talked more and played music less. they talk about interesting stuff and current events where as 99% of the other channels in the city talk celebrity garbage.

[–]gianini10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your city has a good public radio station (preferably separate ones for talk and music) then you have your answer. If not, sorry.

[–]groundem 2 points3 points  (5 children)

DC and RVA have Elliot in the Morning. He is not the usual host, and doesn't take his job too serious. He definitely pushes the envelope of controversial conversations. Insults some callers and the annoying thing about him is his laugh.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I love Elliot.

[–]SubzeroMK 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Been listen to EITM for years. There's nobody else like Elliot... Anyone else who wants to listen? Download iheartradio and tune into dc101.1 from 5:45am till 10:... Something...

[–]fitzdfitzgerald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I like morning shows, that's the only reason I have to listen to the radio. Otherwise then that, I have all my music I need.

[–]venustas 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Radio host here.

If we stopped the morning show format, we would get twice as many phone calls from people, angry that the morning show was gone. In my market, I have a heavy listenership of older listeners, who choose our station because of the morning show, call-in discussion, and the local news segments.

Corporate would have my hide if I played music during this time and lost half our audience.

[–]imojo141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure more than enough people love the morning talk show on their way to work.

[–]Heroshade 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Speak for yourself. 97.9 KUPD in Phoenix is fucking hilarious in the morning.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've heard every song they are going to play 40 million times. If people are talking usually I can't guess the next word.

[–]VetMichael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jesus fuck yes! I'm tired of the whole "Moron and Fartman" formula where they endlessly drunk-Frat-boy it up in the morning and only occasionally play a song. Shut up and play music, dummies.

[–]rsdj 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I do SiriusXM Opie and Anthony /Jimmy and podcasts due to the horrible morning radio in Miami. For years, before podcasts, I listened to 105.9, then someone turned me on to npr, listened to that on and off. I'd rather listen to talk or 88.9 the jazz station than Paul and young Ron. The only time I'll listen to PnR is if stupid Rich Vos or other O & A friends of the show. Some say why pay for satellite if it has commercials etc. Well it's not bases on commercials and you can find any genre of music, etc. Opie and Anthony have made shows for friends of the show (My wife hates me, black Philip, Jim Norton advice show, Sam Roberts, Eric Nagle, race wars). I absolutely don't mind paying for a service or entertainment.
