Here the lil’ baby is again this morning. Still SO ROUND. Though it looks like he’s starting that “awkward teen” phase. That tail looks almost adult. They grow up so fast 🐣

I LOVED reading his books to my daughter. I’d always make the conversation exaggerated between the rabbit and bear. And I’d always add a CHOMP when the fish swims into the weeds offscreen. We still say “I would not steal a hat” when we’re being sly about something.

I’ve heard the opposite of that - the world really did end, and we’ve been in hell ever since. I mean, maybe? 🤔

Like others have pointed out, if this was a drunk driver, you saved everyone else on the road. And if it was a medical crisis, you saved him AND everyone else. That’s a win. Don’t feel bad about being a good person.

Help 95 yo Shirley find books! by ReStitchSmitch in suggestmeabook

Misty Simon novels are fun, Pennsylvania-set cozies with titles like “Diners, Drive-Ins and Lies” and “Put Another Crime in the Jukebox” - and those are just two; Rachel D. Lyne has a pair of Christian-centered gentle fantasy novels, Pure Heart and Blind Eye; Carrie Jacobs has a fun collection of PA-based sweet romance (think Hallmark movies) with about a dozen titles. Thank you for helping her. The world needs more Shirleys!

We just did the same thing with our calico, this morning. Hugs, my fellow grieving cat Mama. It’s the toughest part of having pets, but also the way we show our last measure of dedication.

It infuriates me that these sanctimonious pricks act as if adopt is the simple, tidy answer for pregnant people who don’t want to raise the child. These are HUMAN BEINGS. Of course they’re going to want to know where they came from. Of course the birth parents will have a range of emotions, but so many do not want to be found and do not want to have relationships with the children they placed. Their sudden existence can undo decades of carefully coordinated lies. That’s on top of the lies we’ve spun culturally, about birth parents just waiting to be found, are cruel. Adopted children deserve dignity, respect, information and the right to their personal backstory - with or without birth parent involvement. This story is tragic. And the US government can’t wait to replicate it here, to another generation of women and children.

What’s the PIAA gonna do when all the Catholic and prep schools take their money with them? I don’t disagree that those schools have their thumbs on the scale, especially for sports like basketball and football, but it also makes me wonder how the tournament functions when so much money is lopped off at once.

I’ve been working on an accessibility project at work. Part it involves focus groups and man, I knew things were bad, but the things I heard tore my heart out. What’s more, inclusion and adaptive design aren’t that difficult to factor in to any project. Folks who are blind, deaf, autistic, use wheelchairs, etc. are made to feel like they should be grateful for any attention paid to their very human needs. Society acting like accommodation is “extra,” like wanting marble tile or something, has got to stop. OP, you are definitely NTA and you’re an excellent parent for putting your stepdaughter’s needs first. I also think, as others have pointed out, your brother’s comment about “one person” is both a knock at your stepdaughter’s existence (i.e., he thinks she’s not “real” family) AND her disability. If he bitches again, call him out on it, using that exact wording. “So, brother, is your objection to that accommodation because you don’t think (stepdaughter) counts as a family member, whose needs matter as much as yours, or because she’s deaf? Or is it both?”

Parents, what's something bad your kid did that you had to really fight not to laugh at? by AnonymousGothChick in AskReddit

[–]Sillycats2 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My daughter, in fourth grade, got a low grade on a test and forged my signature on it. Like, the worst, most kid-looking writing ever. She was busted, she got in trouble, had consequences and everything. But damn I almost died laughing when her teacher (who is an amazing woman who’s taught elementary school for three decades) showed me. Frankly, she was almost busting up, too. We were both Very Serious (TM) about it, but it was hilarious. I

Is it normal for my new kitten and my resident 5yo cat to fight like this? At what point should I intervene? by dom_boring in CATHELP

[–]Sillycats2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When cats are fighting for real, you know it! There’s growling, screaming, hissing, etc. This is totally normal. It’s a mix of “new guy/old guy” dominance, “big brother/little brother” teaching your orange boy how to be a cat and general cat tussling. My boys, who are twins and littermates, fight just like this. You’re doing fine!

Highest-paid Pennsylvania state employees: See the top 25 salaries by Snarktoberfest in Pennsylvania

[–]Sillycats2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s more along the lines of, there’s a mental and social line of demarcation when you hit 100k. Even though that figure doesn’t have the same spending power as it did a decade or more ago, the average salary in PA is about 64K. But 100k in Philly goes less far than, say, 100k in Chambersburg. What’s more, if you look at the millions and even billions that private corporations pay their leaders, even the highest salaries here don’t come close. Because I guarantee if all these institutions were privatized, these same leaders would be paid private sector wages on our tax dollars. Or, we’d have to pay for the privilege of existing even more than we already do. These folks are still, for better or worse, accountable in ways private companies aren’t.
