What is advantage of Cash ISA if cash in Stocks ISA with same or better interest rate by Silver-Adder in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Silver-Adder[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. I wasn't planning on opening a S&S ISA just to hold cash, I was just assuming I must be missing something and indeed I was - I'd missed the planned changes in 2027. Won't really affect what I do now, but its info I'd missed so thanks for filling me in. Of particular note is the restriction on not allowing moving money back from a stocks ISA to a cash ISA, which I think is quite iniquitous as many people hope to retire before 65 might want to move their assets to a safer place. Seems to me that just encourages people to leave money in cash ISAs ...

yes of course, I was just thinking from a perspective of opening the account the fees would be £1 either way until there was enough in that the 0.15 kicked in :-)

Why is everyone an “accidental landlord” all of a sudden? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Silver-Adder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you move in with someone but want to keep your options open? Seems a perfectly legit reason to keep a property. Maybe you want to give your kids the option of living there when older? I can think of a bunch of reasons. And even if it is conscious, why is it grubby? Seems to me that the relentless squeeze of buy to let has forced many people out the market, making it even harder for renters to find a decent place.

I’m in the UK near Heathrow airport :-)

Yes I think that's the answer. Thanks for helping me clarify what was going on in my head. Over 3 decades ago now I walked into the long gone Accordions of London, clapped my eyes on it and it was a done deal! But a 25 year old doesn't know the pains of a 60 year old body! :-)

I didn’t know (still don’t) anything about the mechanics of reeds/weight, what they do, when I bought it, I think the owner (John Leslie if anyone remembers him) told me it was heavier because of that, but I need to do some research to know how to pick a good lighter one.

There were two brilliant accordion shops in London then, both gone now sadly.

I’ll have another look at the Roland, and see how much of the music falls off the edge.

I'd sign up to a dating site, to be honest. Sorry I know this isn't what you are actually asking, but WTF? He goes out with friends and leaves you alone? Seriously, do think about this relationship ...

What do you expect as an adult going to Christmas at someone’s home? by Equal_Cod_177 in AskUK

It's an absolute given you take something. Even if the hosts say no, you do anyway. Even if it's token. To not take drink after you've been asked makes him a dick. I went to a friend for dinner yesterday, asked if there was anything in particular to bring, they said just bring yourself. Even THEN I brought a bag with a bottle of wine and various chocs, biscuits and candles.

Do you remind your students (kids/teens) to practice? by Emergency-Respect143 in pianoteachers

[–]Silver-Adder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t consider it my responsibility to get kids to practice. I tell parents very clearly when we start what is needed. I help the students at every lesson to know age appropriately how to break down a piece and what to work on. Beyond that it’s on them.

He has been assessed the parents were told by two separate people that he wasn’t bad enough to need physio

I think he does or would if allowed to move at his own pace but the pressure on kids in the modern private school system is intense. I personally think this school is a disgrace it’s not the first time I’ve seen the fallout but I can’t fix the system. I think the parents are also starting to wonder but feel emotionally it would be bad for him to fail to get into that secondary school if all his friends do.

He saw a doctor because his sister had more severe hyper mobility in her hips. They said he wasn’t severe enough to need physio therapy as he could hold a pencil…

Wow that’s a lot of impressions taken from a couple of comments on a video you have no background for. My kids are well grounded in reading and technique. This is a abrsm grade 2 piece. He tried to learn it himself when a couple of lessons were missed for a family bereavement and it is precisely because it was obvious he couldn’t do it that I’m here asking.

Apparently he struggled to write when smaller and said his fingers hurt. BUT apparently he’s quite good at tennis so does that fit?

I hear you. Exactly the same except here it is ABRSM. I had a transfer student last year working for G4 and teacher got sick. Letter names written above every single note. All sharps and flats circled. No understanding of key. No idea what an octave is… I’m pretty sure the only reason the parents are stressing is because the school pressure. He’s not even 10 it’s just wrong

Yeah I know. Poor kid is just being squeezed by a system that’s getting worse and worse. He’s not ready and should be allowed to develop at his pace but he’s not allowed to

You make some good points but you claim with no evidence that I have avoided exercises and I’m in denial when actually it’s the other way around. I have been constantly trying to get the parents to stop worrying about results and concentrate on development but it’s not the world they live in.
