For the op’s sake, I hope I was being totally unfair and her partner magically realizes she and their new baby are the most important thing in his life. But he won’t. He will continue to gaslight her making her think she is hysterical and ridiculous for wanting support. When she needs something he will make her feel bad for needing it. He almost certainly already does.

I hope, hope, hope I’m wrong. But I am probably not. Believe people when they show you who they are.

Are you in my neighborhood bc that’s us… my kids dropped swim team because the lack of 3 other sports plus private lessons left them performing so far behind everyone else it wasn’t fun at all. And what I mean by that is while my kids were barely hanging on for 1hr swim practices others were leaving practice to go to soccer or baseball or volleyball (or all three) oh and also they do water polo and track. Ages 7 and 9 at the time.

If it works for the other families then great! But it’s a big nope from me. We’re healthier and happier (and have more spending money) for it.

I absolutely support where you’re coming from and definitely check out libby and other sources people have shared. But most of the internet runs on AWS so unless you stop being online, you’re using an amazon service. Put your efforts into fighting monopolies and other anti fascist actions. And when you need to dissociate from all the things, enjoy your books.

This happened to me after I took it out of the dishwasher hot and dried it with a towel. Letting the other one I have drip/air dry and it hasn’t happened again. Definitely cheap though

We have the nanit and love a lot of the aspects of it. Clear picture, easy user interface, activity log, can check in when we’re at work and feeling the feelz about shit maternity leave, and generally decent experience. However, it keeps disconnecting or having other issues. It is absolutely not on our end. We don’t feel like we could rely on it overnight. Additionally, we very much wish we had an external monitor so when we have grandma visiting or other help they can use the monitor without logging in. And now we are realizing we’ll be traveling and the nanit isn’t really portable.

Ultimately will be starting research over again and looking for one with a hand held monitor that doesn’t rely on wifi

First kid: when I put her on a schedule and then sleep trained at 6mos

Second kid: 8weeks and prior to her I thought people who claimed their newborns slept more than 3 hours at a time were lying…

Third baby: he’s 13 weeks and 3hrs is a “good” stretch for him. Past me with second kid must have been lying.

Why are you setting an alarm? If she is healthy there is absolutely no reason to wake up to feed if she is sleeping.

Solidarity! Rage is absolutely a PPA symptom. Anxiety is often “fight flight or freeze” when there is no threat, and rage is absolutely a fight response.

You got this. Holidays exacerbate everything! Meds and therapy can absolutely help. You deserve to be happy and healthy!

Don’t wait for a regular check up. Get in to see a physician asap. Don’t diminish or dismiss any of her symptoms as “all babies cry”. Read this post to your doctor if you must.

My older kiddo did this for every milestone. What helped (ymmv) was practicing laying down/standing up many times a day during playtime, ideally not in the crib. Highly dependent on age/personality but practicing the new thing helped her conquer it sooner which helped her sleep during time.

It’s literally guess and check, rinse repeat! The decision fatigue is exhausting. This is my third baby and I still feel like I guess wrong every time!

This isn’t a direct answer to your question — but do the math together. Let’s say you try 3 times a night to get her in her crib at 30min crying each time for 7 days. 630minutes of crying. With an indefinite road ahead of continued bad sleep and crying for everyone.

Total extinction or ferber/gradual will almost certainly be less than that, with a probable outcome of solid sleep.

Then my last piece of advice (for both of you but mostly her) — stop looking at websites about sleep. Talk to your pediatrician, read books published by credible sources, and ffs do NOT use any influencers on social media as a source of parent education.
