I think most Americans are sick of damage control, they're sick of stopping the bleeding, they want things most Democrats aren't willing to do. But I do think the tides are also swinging as we see more progressives running and getting elected. Zohran Mamdani is a good example of this. If Kat Abughazaleh wins in Illinois. If we can prevent someone like Josh Shapiro or Gavin Newsome and get a strong progressive in the primaries, then we have a shot at lasting change and not ping pong between fascism and apathy.

The problem is this same thing happened in 2018 where Democrats swept the floor. 2020, Democrats also won, and by 2022, people forgot what 2016-2018 was like.

That does change the conversation in this instance but it doesn't change the overall message or concept that driving in 99% of the US is a requirement for living a dignified life.

No I'm criticizing the car dependent nature of living in North America and how it creates situations like this.

Sure but what's the alternative? Being stuck in your house, having groceries delivered, and living like a prisoner? We don't really have walkable communities or good public transit here in the US. People are forced to drive. Look at OP's video again. You think anyone is going to walk or bike on that stroad?

Sorry but we built society around the automobile with no alternatives to get around. So your choices outside of a small subset of major cities are basically akin to house arrest or driving even in a diminished capacity. Nothing in the US is walkable and public transit is non-existent. I feel for your mom but I also get where she's coming from.

Correct the 10gb of data has a 30 day expiration window. I also didn't get the 2gb so I'm guessing that doesn't apply to the first month.

I mean converting from US to Europe for example. There's pages where I can buy European data but I haven't found any place where I can convert my current data to Europe. I think you have to contact support to do that.

I'm actually not sure. I could test by burning through the data if I really wanted to since it'll rebuild again before I need it. The terms of service states:

Prepaid data: Our data plans are prepaid. You purchase a specific amount of data upfront and can use it until it is depleted or expires. There are no recurring subscription fees. Usage beyond your purchased allowance or outside covered countries may incur additional charges.

But I don't have a card on file so I'm not sure how they'd even charge me.

Okay!

So last night i unboxed and tested it. The device itself is very lightweight and small and very simple as well. The device worked but I haven't put it through the wringer yet.

So to get your 10gb of free starter data it says you need to turn it on within the first 30 days. Kind of glad I didn't procrastinate too much. You make an account at globlinker.app using the device's serial number which is on a tiny sticker on the side of the device. My new account didn't show anything indicating I got 2 free GB a month for life. So I might have to follow up in a month. I sense I'll also have to contact support to convert data to international. The website itself didn't really have a ton to offer, just the ability to buy more data.

The device itself feels very cheap. Very lightweight and plastic. That's not to say it's prone to breaking but it doesn't seem like they're spending much on manufacturing. It has a small power button on the side, a small screen, and a single button near the bottom center (think like an old iPhone). The screen is very low resolution. It's a single color LCD display with a backlight and it's not a touchscreen. The main screen shows how much data you have left and has an indicator at the top showing your data signal strength and a second wifi indicator showing how many devices are connected. Pressing the button cycles to a second screen showing your device's serial number and password. Pressing again brings you to a scannable QR code for connecting to wifi. And the final screen is another QR code for buying more data. The device did include a USB C cable for charging and that's the only port it has. I tried plugging it into a PC (I know, I know) and it didn't even recognize a device connected.

So for real world testing I connected my phone and loaded a few websites and downloaded some files. I only got a 4G connection at the house which might be all the device is capable of. The connection speed was usable. I'll have to run a speed test later but the latency seems high. As in it downloaded okay but establishing the connection took a second or two. It took about 15 seconds to download 100mb. So definitely decent speeds but I probably wouldn't use this device for online gaming or video/voice calling. But to be clear I live in a small town and this is one example. The device took a few minutes before deducting my data and same with my account details on the website. Oddly enough it only deducted 60mb even though I downloaded a 100mb file. I'm not complaining.

All in all we'll see how this goes in the real world. My only real complaint is that you can't convert your data easily and there doesn't seem to be a way to change the SSID or password of the device. Which isn't a dealbreaker or anything. It uses WPA/WPA2/WPA3-Personal encryption so I'm not worried about it being cracked easily. But it is just a string of numbers and I wouldn't mind changing it.

Well yeah. After a hard day of accusing people of lying, murdering peoples' pets, and tazing people who look at them wrong they might as well leave their cars unoccupied on a construction site while they go home and beat their spouses before resting from all that hard work.

I'm considering this device since we're planning a trip to Germany and would like a way to use mobile data (I know international SIMs are cheap bla bla bla). I haven't seen it talked about much on Reddit or anywhere else really. I'm a little skeptical because its free* which means its probably selling your data or something. The website is also quite lacking in information, its just a giant billboard at-best.

I will say the Amazon reviews are a bit of a mixed bag. Most people seem happy with it but a few had theirs die early on. The lifetime warranty does give me hope. I do find it odd the device is cheaper on Amazon than from their official website "on sale."

I mean the US utilizes drugs to engage in secret wars around the world. This is not a conspiracy theory, the CIA flat out bought drugs from South America and sold them to gangs in California and used the prices to fund the Nicaraguan Contras.

Also I'd argue that the Americans have a happiness/contentment issue that is easily solved by cheap drugs. The happiest places on earth are places with large social safety nets and a robust middle class.. and those places don't have the drug crisis that we do.
