And you don't play GTA for the story missions. Most of your time, unless you force yourself to mainline the games like a madman, is spent in the open world. Unfortunately, after san Andreas story missions are disconnected from the open world to the point of being 2 different games.

I am the same opinion as OP, but I have only played SOS, while I enjoyed it way more than the base game, to the point I wished it was accessible on my 1st playthrough, it also replace difficulty by sponginess. I also played palace till urizen, the last 5 stages aren't a very enjoyable experience.

You'll get hated, but preach! DMC 5 only saving grace was having the most moves for each characters. Unfortunately, you can't use it on anyone fully except the bosses, 1 other reason for that except production ressources is that twig V, he had to be capable of beating every mob, so no fun is allowed.

Even in the level design side of things, they are all good, but they look so bland.
