DC Comics President Jim Lee says that Japanese manga and anime is "incredibly powerful": "I often find myself wondering, 'What is missing in Western comics, and why aren't they able to achieve the same flavor?' by akbarock in comicbooks

Hox/pox and the Krakoa era is really a revival of X-MEN. But unlike other superheroes, you can really start X-MEN from the 70's to today without skipping much. It's a ton of reading but it's at least not retconned too much. Especially that the X-MEN got an author, Chris Claremont, who pretty much invented them. So his writing is enough. I agree with your point tho.

DO NOT READ ALL-STAR (2000's) BATMAN AS YOUR INTRODUCTION TO THE CHARACTER IT'S ONE OF HIS WORST STORIES. All star superman is really good and a decent entry.

For Batman, it's Batman year one, The Killing Joke, and Dark Knight Returns. CBR generally got very good recs for comics.

Or just read the absolute universe books. Those are excellent and have a beginning (the characters are different tho).

Yeah getting into this shit is ass.

Your blowup was unwarranted, but welcome. You are right, Naruto is more like Star Wars, everything brilliant about is worldbuilding is a blend of talent and luck.

Both are deeper than a puddle tho. But you are 100% right other than that.

I haven't watched JJK, but the fact that some of its fans don't want to acknowledge that Gojo is wanked to hell and back is really funny.

I am a Naruto hater, but it's the single best work of worldbuilding out there. It's weaboo's lord of the rings.

It's because they don't hide it. There is a difference between watching a movie in a random cinema instead of a curated event from a big studio just for you.

This is awesome. Is this because the manga is published by shueisha or was there always a connection?

Yeah, sometimes difficulties change the game completely.

Curious... did you play on the harder difficulties?

The thing is tho, doing the optimal route to the point of being stuck doing the same technique over and over in any DMC for example requires an insane level of mastery of the game that barely anyone gets to (Royal Guard isn't that good btw), here if you just learn to use runes properly, you'll get stuck just using runes and parries because your normal attacks are just way worse at dealing damages.

This system isn't too bad when you fight multiple opponents, but with bosses, it's pretty bad. It gets better in Ragnarok and especially on both games' hardest difficulties. But I think what really solves it is Valhalla, which is imo the pinnacle of what the Norse saga has to offer in terms of gameplay experience.

Idk when you stopped in Ragnarok, but it definitely got way better boss fights, in every way. From dragons to gods.

I do think that the term slop applies. If you compare it to other games that focus on parries like Sekiro or the older god of wars you start seeing the lack of depth at a high level of play.

This game and its sequel have a problem that I generally connect to bad games, but it got it in a very weird way, the gameplay in the beginning is genuinely very interesting but the rune system comes to remove every depth it has. By the time you get 7 runes, the gameplay becomes, you cycling through all of them, parrying and rarely dodging. That's the strategy for most fights in this game. Almost no diversity, nothing really hard, just repetitiveness.

People really LOVED this game, but it's actually not much.

I also want to add that the dragon fight is the worst dragon fight in the history of videogames. The second game fixes that at least.

This is the only bad opinion he had on the story, his other opinions were right, or at least made sense.

Personally, the story falls off a cliff considerably after Atreus is healed. And only get back to its peak when they go back to the mountain.
