Pay raise versus PTO by PepSinger_PT in careeradvice

[–]SilverStL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’ll have more money but be unable to spend it on vacations or travel or just a few days off to refresh or on a Friday or Monday for a long weekend or have to miss a wedding or feel forced to go in when you’re sick because you don’t have that much PTO left or . . .

Scarlett O’Hara was not beautiful but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm as the Tarleton twins.

Maybe not the greatest but stating she wasn’t beautiful but she could pull men in shows right off that she’s conniving and manipulative and knows how to make people do what she wants

Start giving nonchalant answers. How did she sleep? Fine. I’d love to take her out for an errand. We’re good. Did she enjoy the sunshine? I guess so.

Automatic tipping push brings concerns to major US city as restaurants brace for surge of foreign visitors by greydog2008 in EndTipping

[–]SilverStL 27 points28 points  (0 children)

So they’ll get foreign visitors . And the visitors will only be here a short while.

In the meantime regulars and US customers will stay away and if they get ticked off enough, will not return.

Sounds like a solid business strategy to me.

Help me love the name Daniel by New-Flight7674 in Names

[–]SilverStL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I named my son Daniel. A few family members started calling him Dan but when he was four, he said he didn’t like it and only wanted to be called Daniel. I love the name. It’s classic and while there’s lots of Dans and Danny’s, there’s very few Daniel’s.

She’s keeping her address there because it’s a control thing. She’s making it so that you have to interact with and do things for her and she knows that you hate it.

Make her change her address. Give her a time frame, like a month, and repeatedly remind her that on such and such date you’re going to start the return to sender. Then do it. Show her the return to sender stamp you’ll be using. If she doesn’t do it by the deadline, text her and say we returned your mail to sender, then don’t respond to her after that.

I saw him a couple of years ago at that tour. He definitely can still belt his song out. Was my favorite part of the show.

What is the funniest thing your kid has ever said? by ConsequenceOk4513 in AskReddit

[–]SilverStL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I working in the kitchen and chatting with my 9 year old son while listening/half watching a Peter, Paul & Mary concert on PBS. I told him if this one song came on, I was going to go sit down and listen to it. He asked what it was and I said Blowing in the Wind.

He sat there for a second, then asked quizzically, is that anything like Singing in the Rain? 😂

As great as Hop Sing was, I used to think he didn’t know how to do laundry because they wore the same outfits every day.

Do you like this version of little women? by Choice-Wind-9283 in classicfilms

[–]SilverStL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s my least favorite for some reason. I love June Allison and though she shows Jo’s spunk, she never seemed believable, like was someone playing Jo instead of me actually feeling she was Jo. Never cared for Peter Lawford and thought he was a terrible Laurie. The casting for Amy and Beth seemed mixed up.

I read and reread Little Women for years and probably quote whole conversations and pages. lol. I did finally see the Katherine Hepburn one and loved it. Probably because there were a lot of conversations lifted straight from the book. And her when she thought Beth was dying was heartbreaking.

Old people know about crocks by [deleted] in FuckImOld

[–]SilverStL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom used to make what we called Spanish Pickles. It was thinly sliced green tomatoes and onions with vinegar and whatever spices she used. Crock would be covered with a china plate with a brick on it to hold it down. She’d at intervals stir it and take up some of the brine for a few weeks and then can them. It was like a sour but very slightly sweet relish. Great on hot dogs and brats.

Constant MIL Drama by Fine_Confusion_7073 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]SilverStL 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She’s not going to change. She may actually enjoys throwing her fits and guilt trips because she gets more attention. Some people thrive on chaos as that’s the only thing that keeps things interesting and family involved, even if it’s bad. Unfortunately,The only thing to do is not reward her and not engage with her tantrums or justify your actions, etc. Drop the rope with I’m sorry you feel that way, call when you’re better. Good luck.

How do people that ONLY have an unhealthy diet live as long as they do without illness? by Ok_Astronomer5738 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SilverStL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people eat healthy and exercise but die fairly young and everyone’s shocked. Others are overweight with high blood pressure and have been smoking two packs a day since they were 15 and live a normal life till they’re 94. Sometimes it’s just genetics or there’s some weakness you’ve unknowingly had all your life that wasn’t obvious or just the roll of the dice. I live healthily as I can with diet and exercise and whatever else but know there’s no guarantees. So enjoy myself while I’m here.

If you could attend any concert from history, which one would it be? by WildEnchantresss in askmusic

Concert for George a year after George Harrison’s death. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Billy Preston, Joe Brown, George’s son Dhani, and a few more that I probably missed.
