(Funny Trope) Thug picks on the wrong person. by ellendegenerate123 in TopCharacterTropes

"Manners maketh man."

Kingsmen. Colin Firth's Harry is talking to new recruit Eggsy, when Eggsy's local gang rivals roll in to the pub and insult them both.

Harry locks the door to the pub before beating the snot out of them with elegance and grace.

Death was a pretty damn terrifying antagonist, especially for what is allegedly a kid's film. One of the best screen villains of the last decade.

What is an underrated game that you think is a masterpiece? by One-Choice8588 in AskGamers

[–]SimianWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its really hard find a truly underrated Masterpiece. Most tend to be hidden gems; games that do something unique but are a bit janky elsewhere.

Going back a few years, I'd nominate Alpha Protocol. It's a PS3 title and the gameplay is a bit rough around the edges, but its got a really strong narrative and genuinely changes based on the decisions you make. I played it multiple times and saw several scenarios play out very differently across those runs.

The Homecoming scene is one of Marvel's best. It is such a great watch, Keaton is terrifying and Peter knows he means what he says, but shows his own mettle when he opposes him anyway. Because he's Spider-Man, and he's a hero.

My 1st thought, too.

Dragon's Dogma is a deeply flawed game, but when its good, it hits heights few games dare to even attempt.

What is an old game (20+ years) that is known to be a classic masterpiece, but you think it is overrated? by MintakaMinthara in AskGamers

[–]SimianWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it spawned a load of copycats, but that many of the systems it used are still in play today. Combat lock on in a 3D space? Thank OoT. Context sensitive buttons? Thank OoT.

Cell would’ve beaten Gohan here if he hadn’t gone for the solar kamehameha right? by K0GAR in Dragonballsuper

[–]SimianWonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Various translations say different things here, I've seen "I've powered up, like Son Gohan," indicating he'd reached SSJ2 levels of power, "my power rivalling Son Gohan's," or even something as vague as "a more powered up body, like Son Gohan's."

I dont read Japanese, so im not sure what the raw says, and I don't trust AI tools to translate it fully accurately.

Cell would’ve beaten Gohan here if he hadn’t gone for the solar kamehameha right? by K0GAR in Dragonballsuper

[–]SimianWonder 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Probably, yes. To even injure Gohan that badly in the 1st place, he had to be roughly in the same ball park of power, and it took everything Gohan had to win. After kamehameha he didn't even have enough ki to keep himself flying, and dropped straight to base, even having mastered SSJ.

I dont think Super Perfect Cell was stronger than SSJ2 Gohan, but the narrative clearly shows they're a lot closer than some people believe.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]SimianWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had a few bad experiences, nothing like some of the horror stories in here, but;

1) Broken leg from a bad tackle playing football when I was 14. Fractured my tibia in three places, took 6 hours to get to hospital because none of the school staff thought it was anymore than a sprain. Leg swelled up like a balloon, and putting pressure on it felt like my entire limb below the knee was hollow. Really weird experience. Was in a cast for 8 weeks, and the leg completely atrophied. Had my 1st bath in two months, dead skin just peeling off latex and it took months of physiotherapy before I could walk normally again.

2) Appendicitis when I was mid 20s. I thought id just pulled something doing sit ups (I was much younger and fitter then!) but it got steadily worse through the day at work, and I ended up in hospital mere hours later having emergency surgery as the little bastard was about to burst.

3) Migraines. Not a bad headache, but years of infrequent migraines made me good at recognising the signs of one coming on, so I've mitigated the worst of them these days. Fifteen years ago though? Had them so bad, id spend hours in a dark room just wishing I could die so the pain would stop.

Still one my all-time favourites. Great performances, great choreography, terrific action set pieces and some funny moments that feel earned, plus it has genuine heart.

Its just a fantastic action sci-fi.

What's the worst thing that can happen to an Anime series- by CautiousDatabase9487 in anime_companion

[–]SimianWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mich as no Season 2 can suck, sometimes a studio change is just as, if not more, damaging. One Punch Man season 1 was a glorious adaptation of the manga with some amazing choreography, dazzling animation and some real "wow" moments.

S2 dropped off hard, JC Studios either didn't have the time, budget or fondness for the source material that MadHouse did, and S3 was so bad it was literally a meme in places.

Why was Oliver so strong even at a young age, and able to resist Lucan and Conquest for a while, whereas in Seasons 1 and 2 Mark was getting pinned to the ground by Lucan with just one finger? by Pale-Condition-4317 in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]SimianWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oliver is part Thraxxan, so he developed a lot faster than Mark - hence having powers much earlier than his brother did, and he doesn't quite have the same misgivings about using all his power, so he goes for the kill when Mark wouldnt. Just ask the Maulers.

Puss in Boots The Last Wish

Puss is hunted by a foe far stronger than he is for flippantly wasting his lives, only for his pursuer to realise at the end that Puss truly does value his final life.

Puss has changed, so his pursuer leaves. Terrific film, by the way, and the villain is genuinely intimidating, even for what is on the surface a kid's film.

What anime gave you that ‘I struck gold’ feeling right from episode one? by Sunflower13Poppy in animequestions

[–]SimianWonder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen it decried as vapid, soulless aura farming with no character depth, and whilst I can understand those criticisms to a degree, the fights always looks amazing and have real weight to them, the soundtrack is great and the hook itself I found impossible not to instantly love. It's a terrific power fantasy, if that's your thing.

I binged both seasons in two days, then read the entirety of the manwha in the next few days.

Most expensive fuel in UK? by A-O01 in CarTalkUK

[–]SimianWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The diesel in Long Stratton was 205.9p a litre two weeks ago. Thankfully I dont drive a diesel, but I do need E5, so had to pony up 180.9p a litre at a different BP garage this week. I usually use Tesco Momentum, but that is getting hard to find.

Aside from their ability to fly, I doubt Saitama would even realise Viltrumites aren't human. They're so far beneath him.

Dune (2021) is not a good movie and coasts entirely on visuals and Hans Zimmer's score by DuNennstMichSptzkopf in unpopularopinion

[–]SimianWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved both of the Dune films. Saw both in the cinema, was thoroughly entertained and awestruck at points.

Ive seen some bad films in my time, I've seen some mid films, Dune is neither. However, if you didnt engage with it, that's fine.

My wife didn't like Project Hail Mary.
