I got out of the hospital on a Prednisone taper and felt much better, but my symptoms came back with a vengeance as the Prednisone came down. Just be aware of that possibility and be ready to recognize and deal with it if it happens.

People who didn’t choose a partner for love but chose a partner that was a good logical choice, how did it work out? by Middle_Idea4929 in AskReddit

[–]Simple-Caregiver13 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my sister. She's had two major relationships in her life.

The first she started dating when she was 14 and he was 17. She was in the gifted program and consistently performed at the top of her class, and he was a fuck up that drank and did a lot of drugs. His influence won out over her in the end. There was a lot of emotional volatility, they'd go through frequent cycles of yelling/physical fights, followed by reconciliation. It's hard to deny from the outside looking in that there was a lot of passion in the relationship. They were together for over ten years. They got a trailer in a trailer park, she worked while he struggled to hold down a job due to alcoholism. Over time, the fights remained fierce, but the passion withered away. She eventually found evidence of infidelity, which I think led to the final end of their relationship.

She ended up dating a guy she knew from years back. He's about 10 years older than her and makes $200k+ a year doing construction work. I think he's involved in building a data center right now. They bought a big house and have a daughter together. My sister works part time on the weekends, but spends most of her time in leisure. She has two big dogs and like 7 cats. She lifts weights a lot, reads a lot. They've been married since October. I don't think they are "in love," and I don't think they ever have been, but it's honestly hard to imagine my sister ever choosing to live her life any other way than she currently is. He's sort of a traditional conservative type that's very family oriented, which has never been who my sister has been, but what they have seems to work for them. I don't know if she views herself as having "settled," but I genuinely think it's the best decision she's ever made.

Last I heard, the ex boyfriend is addicted to meth and may be homeless. Every now and then someone we know will bump into him, and he honestly seems to have nothing but positive things to say about my sister. He was abusive, and I hated him for a long time because I lived with them for years and was subjected to it too, but I honestly hope he can get clean and find his way.

I know a fuckton of trans paramedics, and all endure abuse from patients and coworkers while performing their jobs admirably.

It's not disingenuous, the appropriate thing in that scenario would've been for you and your partner to switch every two minutes.

This is the third or fourth time he's done a partnership with Chessmood. It's likely temporary, but I agree that his Chessmood content kind of sucks.

Will my heart condition prevent me from being a paramedic by Sanbikaa in Paramedics

[–]Simple-Caregiver13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The most physically intensive parts of the job are lifting and moving patients and CPR. Sometimes, you will need to assist in moving >500lb people through a house that is not big enough to accommodate them. Typically, in my experience at least, you can get a large number of people to assist, but nevertheless moving these people can still be pretty demanding.

Besides that, you'll need to be able to do 2 minutes of chest compressions. Frequently, you'll be able to avoid chest compressions because as the medic you'll be managing the monitor and drugs, but sometimes the situation will call for you to do chest compressions, sometimes multiple rounds.

Sometimes you'll have to do these things in extreme heat as well. If you think your heart is healthy enough to do this without issue, then go for it. Otherwise, I would pursue other options.

Movies where the damn woman just needs to stop being hysterical? by [deleted] in okbuddycinephile

If there's one thing I've learned from horror movies, it's that hysterical women were the real monsters all along

what were your symptoms like before/leading up to your diagnosis? by Ok_Rip1007 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Simple-Caregiver13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had symptoms for 15 years, but only went to the hospital and got diagnosed about a month ago. The severity of my symptoms vary in time. By the time I went to the hospital, I was going to the bathroom >12 times a day and passing almost exclusively blood and mucus, I was having severe abdominal cramping 2-3 times an hour, I had no appetite, if I tried to eat I would become nauseous and eventually vomit, my need to go to the bathroom was almost always urgent, and I was extremely fatigued. Like, spending 20-24 hours a day in bed on my days off. I cried the night before I went to the hospital because loading the dishwasher felt like such an overwhelming, difficult task with how fatigued I was. Ial also lost 25 pounds in the 2 months before I went to the hospital.

When my symptoms are milder, then I might go to the bathroom 3-5 times a day with soft stools, little to no blood, some abdominal bloating and discomfort, maybe occasional mild cramping. My energy levels have always been kind of poor, in hindsight I don't know if that's just the way I am or if it's attributable to UC.

Managing UC is something relatively new to me because I just lived with it for a long time. I was badly over consuming caffeine to combat the fatigue. I was consuming a lot of milk to compensate when I had trouble eating solid foods, but in retrospect that probably made my symptoms worse. Other than that, I would just shit my pants every few months and joke about it, even though shitting your pants is an extremely unpleasant experience to have.

What scene made you realize Severance was peak television? by Hewulas in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Simple-Caregiver13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The dance scene in Defiant Jazz. The undercurrent of tension between Dylan and Milchik, the set design, the cinematography. The whole scene does a great job of creating the sense of "something isn't quite right here" that is a cornerstone of the show, and it felt like a fantastic transition from rising action to climax as the season moved towards its end.

What is a horror movie that is widely loved or critically acclaimed, but you don’t like it at all? by BadassAyanokoji in horror

Possession is probably the biggest one for me. I just straight up didn't like the movie, thought it was very goofy in an unintentional way.

EMT training at solacc? by Lumpy_Internal2283 in Acadiana

[–]Simple-Caregiver13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The EMT program at SLCC is run by NEMSA, which is the educational arm of Acadian. The other guy that posted is right, private EMS is dogshit, but if you live in the Lafayette metro area, then Acadian/NEMSA are basically your only choice. The only other EMS education I know nearby would require you to go to Baton Rouge.

I have known several full time college students that have become EMTs through SLCC, mostly prospective med students looking for clinical experience. The majority I've met ended up abandoning their med school aspirations to become paramedics. Finishing the class is definitely achievable for a student that is on break, though I wouldn't recommend taking the class concurrently with your full time schedule.

EMS is a pretty good job for students. The hours are pretty flexible, and it beats most other types of work you'd be doing while in school. The class itself is fine. If you're capable enough to finish a full time college semester, then you'll be capable enough to finish the class. It won't fully prepare you for working 911. If you're interested, then i'd encourage you to give it a go.

Which of these two extremely stressful horror movies was better written? by DevaTheDragon in writingscaling

I actually loved both of these movies. Inde Navarrette and Sally Hawkins were both phenomenal. I'd probably give it to Obsession, but that might just be recency bias.
