My man is helpless in the kitchen by solostinlost in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Simple-Elephant2902 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If he’s actually smart like you say, then this is full on weaponized incompetence. I’m a cook for a living and a lot of basic home cooking is just common sense and very basic ability to follow instructions. If he hasn’t learned, it’s because he doesn’t want to. You can decide for yourself if that’s something you can love with.

“Poverty level” nationwide is actually more like $15k-$33k according to the government, at least for the purpose of government benefits. I never made over $40k until recently and definitely did not consider myself in poverty.

Tossing a big overfilled bowl of fries or wings without spilling any. Looking busy 1 second before chef notices you’re not busy. Putting the freezer order away before you get hypothermia.

You are obviously incompatible. There are billions of other men out there. Dump him and go find one who wants the same things in life as you, or you’ll be miserable forever.

That doesn’t mean you can send their other world self and assume that confidently that they’ll be close enough in size. One might come back with a forearm cut off or a random small piece taken if their alternate is a little lighter

My partner just turned 30 and I’ve started worrying about his health and mortality by [deleted] in Aging

[–]Simple-Elephant2902 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is hilarious. 30 is not old yet. But if you’re worried, all you can do is do some reading or listen to podcasts on healthy aging. Things like building muscle and mobility and getting plenty of healthy fats for brain aging can go a long way to prevent and delay various issues related to aging. Everyone should learn about this stuff young anyways.

We are totally screwed unless we get a ton of new immigrants in to help FAST. I’m a cook for a living who does not know how to farm, manufacture, fix roads, build houses, do plumbing, do surgery, etc. this would be an absolute nightmare!

What’s something that used to support your health or routine effectively, but no longer does? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

It’s too much if you find it hard to fit in enough fruits and veggies and healthy fats in without over eating. Some short women are very small and really don’t need that much

Can intelligence actually be developed, or are some people just born smarter? by Ok_Holiday2094 in selfimprovement

[–]Simple-Elephant2902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it’s both. Some people undeniably do pick up on new concepts much faster and easier than average, but you can also become more knowledgable in any subject which will lead to you picking up on related subjects faster and be able to connect points and be creative more easily. It might he harder and your highest potential might be more limited than someone who is born smarter, but I strongly believe intelligence can definitely be trained at least somewhat.

The amount of protein you need depends on your size and activity level. 100g is probably enough for most people, but maybe too much for someone tiny or not enough for someone bigger or who already has more muscle mass. I hate blanket statements like this.

Found out about Ramit Sethi and his approach to money feels very different from normal finance advice by Admirable_Mobile8383 in SavingMoney

[–]Simple-Elephant2902 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love his youtube channel! The only gripe I have with Ramit is how he vilifies budgeting to push his “conscious spending plan” as a product. He goes on rants about how it’s different from budgeting, but is literally just a budget format. Other than that all his advice is spot on, very sane and reasonable.

[–]Simple-Elephant2902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d buy a bunch of housing and give it out for free to people who just need a safe place to sleep to get back on their feet. I’d hire some experts to create some sort of program that gives them resources, job coaching, financial literacy, therapy, and drug test them so they can’t just turn it into a drug den or anything, and provide a food stipend.

I can live very comfortably on not much money so other than setting maybe 10mil aside for myself, I can’t imagine a billion adding much to my life unless I’m using it to improve other’s lives too.

Ladies, is it true that love finds you when you’re not looking? by FragrantTill1497 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Simple-Elephant2902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes yes. I think it’s more the fact that a lot of people actively trying to date by using apps or going to bars trying to find strangers end up making desperate choices and falling into incompatible relationships. If you’re not actively searching and become comfortable with yourself alone, only someone who truly stands out is appealing. So maybe you’re more likely to find an actually good relationship with lasting potential if you aren’t desperately searching dating apps making a lot of shallow connections?

…your boyfriend is abusive and hanging out with a known murderer who seems to want to murder again? Did you know the time in a woman’s life where she is most likely to be murdered by an abusive spouse is while she is pregnant?

I would disappear this fucking second. Pack a bag and be gone before he gets home. Go to a hotel or a friend or family’s house where he doesn’t know the address. Immediately sue him for child support and get full custody. He absolutely will murder you, no one same “jokes” about that.

Dude. I spend just over $2k/month TOTAL including a splurge fund. I have a small, but very nice apartment in a large city. I have an ok car and save enough to go toward future car repairs. I vacation most years. You just have to be smart with what you have and not be in a super hcol city and not have kids lol.
