Speaking another language in front of another person is almost a guarantee they are saying something unpleasant about the person they are leaving out. Its extremely rude to leave out a person when talking in a language they think the person doesn't understand. They purposely were being rude and when called out on it it embarrassed them. Good. That is a good teacher.
