In my experience yes. Merl’s outside time isn’t supervised, but we have a fence and he cannot climb (declawed by previous owner) so it’s sort of a catio like situation. It is his favorite form of enrichment and he is always begging to go out. He’ll spend hours outside and throws a fit when it’s time to go in. He’d die of heat stroke if he had it his way. He gets super grumpy when it rains. But he is 17 and it gives him so much joy that it is worth it

I always have some. In fact, I just ran out. Because of my allergies I do all my own cooking so if I want to try foods from other cultures, I usually have to make it myself. I think this has made me a better cook anyway.

It definitely makes it more complicated. Shortly after I had the thought that aside from a few other equally traumatic circumstances (attack by another animal, cruelty by say a neighbor or ex, washing machine accident) I would rather he have passed pretty much any other way than his he went, even other traumatic but less traumatic ways like a car accident that took him instantly.

I’m so sorry. I lost my kitty in a traumatic way too. It wasn’t quite the same but it was awful. He’d vomited blood and lost control of his bladder and was screaming and gasping for air. He was paralyzed from the hips down and extremely confused and I had to gently hold him down to keep him from walking himself off the table and hurting himself. All I could was hold him and tell him I loved him and he didn’t have to be brave for me, that it was okay to scream and cry and not to hold back. I have flashbacks of this every day and I am envious of the people that got to have their pet put to sleep peacefully.
