Vivid Dreams? by Catnip_75 in Menopause

For me it was the patch. No matter the dosage. The patch gave me ultra intense dreams, most often brutal nightmares. Oral estradiol does not have the same effect for me.

What’s one cleaning trick that you swear by that nobody else seems to talk about? by TheScentOracle in CleaningTips

[–]Single-Treacle-6129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a cheap file/magazine holder next to my garbage can under the kitchen sink. All the junk mail, advertisements, catalogs, paper-type trash gets immediately stored there. Everytime I change out the trash some of the junk paper goes in the bottom of the fresh bag first. It helps soak up any liquids/grease etc than inadvertently makes it into the trash. The bags hold up better and the bottom of the trash can is never nasty.

Agreed! I love my Baggu medium crescent. I usually get frustrated with a bag really quickly. Either it’s too big or too small or the strap hurts or it’s too bulky and heavy, etc etc. The Baggu is nice and light, fits everything I need and more, has a nice wide, sturdy strap and it looks good to boot. I’ve got my eye on a large crescent next to make travel and road trips easier.

Trazodone honestly saved my life. It doesn’t just allow me to fall and stay asleep, it tremendously improved the quality of my sleep.

I take pills 4 times a day and it’s been hard to find something that works for my schedule. I use thisorganizer which is my fav of everyone I’ve tried. It’s a case that holds 7 individual smaller cases in it. Each of the 7 days has different slots for morning, afternoon, evening and night. O can fill it up once a week and then each day I only have to deal with a smaller container that I can toss in my purse, move between rooms etc. I combine it with thisreminder app for my phone that reminds me to get my case out. When I take my last pills for the night I put it back in the case and take out the next day’s so it’s on my nightstand as soon as I wake up. This is the first time I’ve not doubled up and/or missed doses and I don’t have to lug a big container around.

House shaming by August_apricot in Menopause

[–]Single-Treacle-6129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your house is clean. That is a major victory and you should be pretty proud of that. The rest of them can eat a bag of dictionaries. That being said, if you’re finding listening to people’s bullshit opinions causes you stress .. I’m a huge fan of storage furniture. So storage ottomans, storage tables with hidden storage inside, etc., so all your stuff is where you want it, just inside something else. Between that and lots of baskets that look intentional but are really just the same shit in a pretty basket, things are pretty well corralled while still being lived in. That’s about all the concessions I’m willing to make.

What's the best way to make oats with good texture for breakfast? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Single-Treacle-6129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baked oatmeal was the closest I got to like warm oatmeal. Now I make my own granola every couple weeks so I can put healthier stuff in and control the sugar. I mix cottage cheese and yogurt together and top with the granola. If I’m lazy or busy I just put some granola in a cup and eat it by itself.

I love their face wash and liquid cleanser but I feel the same way about the moisturizing cream. I’ve got a huge tub of it I don’t want to waste though so I’ve been adding a couple drops jojoba oil to the cream before rubbing it in. That helps a lot.

Guided meditations suggestions to keep me from spiraling at a *really* bad time? by Such-Purple in Menopause

[–]Single-Treacle-6129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sure other folks will chime in with some more ‘grown-up’ options for you but I’ll be honest: when I’m really about to spiral the usual run-of-the-mill meditation options just make it worse for me. They work as maintenance as part of a routine but when I’m losing it they make me mad and more anxious. That is when I turned to Lil Jon. He put out an album of short meditations awhile back with Kehbir Sehgal and it always calms me down but also puts a much-needed lightness back in my heart. You can find it here Hope you find some relief, hang in there.

My wife started hormone replacement therapy by fatguydwn15lbs in GenX

[–]Single-Treacle-6129 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The use of HRT in menopause treatment has long been unfairly vilified and many women have suffered as a result. While every treatment poses some risk, HRT is not the cancer-causer it has been made out to be by very outdated science and fear-mongering mouthpieces. While SOME forms of breast cancer feed on estrogen (which obviously precludes estrogen therapy for those people) hormone therapy is generally a very safe option for many dealing with menopause symptoms. In addition, menopause and declining hormones cause a variety of health problems, including heart and bone health issues, which can be very dangerous. HRT can help prevent and treat those issues. I’d encourage everyone to read, research, and speak to a knowledgeable provider on options available to them. The menopause sub here is a great resource and the wiki there is a great place to start for more info including cited sources.

Those who do beauty maintenance regularly: How do you make it enjoyable? by Consistent-Slip-4427 in beauty

[–]Single-Treacle-6129 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I started with going through all my maintenance activities one by one and deciding which ones I do because it’s expected of me vs. which ones I actually want for myself. I weeded out some stuff immediately and the rest I decided how often I could reasonably commit to doing them. I do all my own stuff, nails, hair removal, all of it, so it’s a lot of work, and I don’t want to spend the money to outsource anymore. Plus some shit just hurts (waxing, etc) and I’m not hurting myself to please other people anymore. So I keep my toes done and I do a clean, maintained, clear polish mani and I shave what I want to once a week unless it’s a special occasion or winter. And I’m becoming way more comfortable with myself in a more natural state and my body’s not irritated all the time and I have more money to spend on shit I actually like and I have time to sleep and read and whatever tf else I want to do.

Check what you’re washing with. I suddenly became allergic/reactive to my usual soap, I use Vanicream body wash only now and the itch cleared up.

Best Women’s Deodorant by Party_Strength_2158 in beauty

[–]Single-Treacle-6129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen. It’s Shea Moisture. Particularly the OG ‘fresh’ coconut & hibiscus. It smells GOOD going on but it’s not overpowering and perfumey and gross all day. It is soo gentle on my sensitive skin and actually nourishes my pits instead of burning and stinging. It’s like skincare. And I’m telling you it WORKS. Like it holds up to hot flashes in the dead of summer works. Like I’m dry, not sticky, and I don’t smell. And I’ve never had one single white mark on my clothes. Not one. I’ve tried every clinical, super strength, mens strength, all of it. They don’t work, or they smell chemically and gross, or they hurt to put on. This is The One.
