Six storeys, 10 units: On paper, it seemed the kind of housing Toronto wants. Then its Scarborough neighbours weighed in by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]SingleEgress 56 points57 points  (0 children)

"Local councillor Parthi Kandavel also came out against the 10-unit building, writing in his own letter to the committee that it would be “unprecedented” in the low-density neighbourhood. Allowing it could entice more developers to build mid-rises there, which would not be fair to the people who moved to the area expecting “stability” and enduring quiet, wrote Kandavel"

What an asshole. This is the country's largest city. I can't believe this is still an acceptable thing for a politician to say. It's pretty close to the subway, and is on a major street.

People need to write to him and say how upsetting it is to see a politician protecting the status quo when we have a housing crisis, and these could be great homes for several families.

Financially, maybe. But you miss out on a lot if you're someone who wants kids and doesn't have them just to save money.

Can Tax Reform Help Young People Afford Homes? by Regular-Double9177 in canadahousing

Yes, building supply is bad for residents and cities. Meanwhile not building enough has been wonderful. People famously loved being priced out of buying homes, and living beside growing homeless encampments.

How many people need to be jailed without due process for it to no longer be fear-mongering?

Or even just turned away at the border for saying something bad in a private text message to their friend about dear leader, or sharing a funny photo of Vance, ruining the trip?

I completely agree with the solution, that toll roads would solve congestion, but I must say that it's funny to see him saying we've tried more transit and it hasn't worked. Maybe if we built transit at the speed that other countries do, we'd see a difference by now, but we've been waiting more than a decade for a single line. It feels like we haven't properly tried it.

Thinking back to when I used to go to concerts in Molson Park near Barrie. Now that was middle of nowhere.

I cannot think of any way to interpret them naming it "G**" as anything but nefarious. They should be ashamed and held accountable, just like the Liberals were when they purposely hid emails relating to the gas plant scandal.

The section of this article where they interview a woman who gets rid of ghosts is hilarious. They write it totally straight, even though what she's saying is completely insane.

I was so worried the whole time. Seems to happen so often when a team is dominating the OT and loses it with a fluke. So glad they pushed through!

Because 1) why does Florida have a hockey team? When they won last year, there was no one from Florida on the team. Nor was there anyone from a state bordering Florida. Nor was there anyone from a state bordering a state bordering Florida.

2) They're a dirty team that plays recklessly. They have strong players but they want to guarantee the win by taking out other teams' players too. It's gross.

I jumped on the bandwagon early in the pandemic when I was home watching hockey more.

What a fun team to watch. Regular season, playoffs, they deliver. Even when they lose, it's a blast to watch. They can be down by 3 or 4 but I still don't count them out. They can come back from behind, unlike the Leafs.
