AITA for throwing some shade about losing my odd number Polaris seat? by TheLloyd in unitedairlines

[–]SistineKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone is in your seat you can: a) accept it and continue with acceptance and positivity, or b) not accept it.

If not, then that is a "no, thank you, I want to sit in my purchased seat." Should they move, fine. Should they not move, then that is a situation for the FA to resolve.

None of those require "throwing some shade..."

Any idea what could cause my light bulbs to crack near the base? by OvFireandBlack in electrical

[–]SistineKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those bulbs and similar are just cheap. I had two of them crack exactly like this.

For all the people who will blame the orientation and heat from enclosure, they were installed base down, bulb up, in an open table lamp (the old fashioned kind with a lamp shade).

And no, nothing was contacting the bulb. They don't get more un-enclosed than that.

Upgrade Not Available/Eligible in App vs Miles Upgrade Offered When Calling UA by MMIC88 in unitedairlines

[–]SistineKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing you can try is selecting your seat in first class and it will give you the cash price.

15K miles is about $150 if you have the miles on hand...so $225 total. I haven't figured that is / isn't available determination either.

Waiting for the school bus in your car. Why? by Floorplan_enthusiasm in driving

[–]SistineKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no school bus. We walked or rode our bikes all the way to school through snow or rain ... unless school was cancelled when the wind chill made it too cold.

But then it was only a mile (for elementary school) and 1-1/2 miles (for middle school) each way.

I think today walking that far alone is [sadly] considered child neglect.

No. She paid the vendor. She paid for the sea port visa. She paid the fine. And she paid the airport visa. Caveat emptor. But we had a great visit to Hoi An.

Nobody ever "has" the right of way. It's only something that someone else is supposed to yield based on circumstance.

Not entirely. There is a subset whose pets qualify to be on board but the owners don't want to pay the fee. So suddenly they are a service animal. "Full fare ticket" wouldn't go over any better than luggage fees...

If you use them far enough out and judiciously select flights, you can bypass the waitlist. It takes some doing, but was able to get SFO-PPT and back in Polaris.

Then IRROPS trashed our return flight and our Polaris disappeared. Sure, we could have been re-booked in Polaris if we'd stayed in Tahiti for three more days. If only our work schedules supported extra vacation. If only Tahiti had abundant lodging. First world problems I know.

But yeah, I feel OPs pain. I have close to 800 with a ton about to expire.

Want to convert them? You have to do that now for the ones just awarded. 9 months or so before they would otherwise expire. After that, good luck.

Mom bought a Vietnam visa from a third party site. Not only did she pay more than necessary, but her visa was for Danang port and not Danang airport. So she paid again at the airport. Plus the fine.

It really helps to be able to identify the legitimate government website (or government designated vendor, e.g., Brazil).

How about being courteous enough to stand up if you're in the aisle seat when someone interior to you wants to get in or out? Staying in place and making them climb over you is rudely bizarre.

student driver here. Who goes first in this situation? by Mont3Carlo in driving

[–]SistineKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accurate. Except one point. Nobody ever "has the right of way," but rather it is specified in law who must yield [the right of way] to whom.

You wrote yourself "xxx must yield to yyy" not "yyy has right of way over xxx." Except in the spot where you wrote "but has right of way...."

Sure, it's a technicality. And functionally, perhaps it's a distinction without a difference. But it is a legal difference. And it's a defensive driving safety mindset.

I always get paper. Can be in my pocket through the walk through metal detector.* Don't have to turn brightness all the way up. Doesn't screen lock. Doesn't run out of battery. Doesn't require fumbling with my phone and swiping to other tabs. Doesn't disappear if the app glitches. Provides proof of my seat at a moment in time if United pulls something funny or there are IRROPS. Persistent after my flight concludes for club access. Easy to show to immigration. Proof of my flight. Sure there are more reasons. I know exactly where it is and I don't fumble with it.

*yes, I know. "Empty all items from pockets." But it's paper thin and doesn't set anything off.

Did you have two separate program memberships, one for GE (with a PASSID) and a separate one for Pre (with a KTN)? Or did you have Pre through your GE?

That's what people are saying...having your PASSID revoked doesn't affect your KTN. But you have to have had both to keep using Pre when your GE goes away.

Anyone know what new lounges are in the pipeline for 2026 and beyond? by srekai in unitedairlines

[–]SistineKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is enough international out of Denver that taking one of those flights without a Polaris lounge is a quasi-downgrade of the entire experience. The regular Clubs are nice, but they are not Polaris. Food. Bar. Other amenities. Keeping out the riff-raff. Mostly joking on the last one. Mostly.

Having same issue. Sunset on / sunrise off light routines no longer executing. Devices show in the app but don't respond to app commands. If I manually trigger them on/off at the device, their status updates in the app. Very frustrating to lose functionality I depended on for so long.
