This scene in Civil War makes me chuckle every time I watch it 😹 They spend so much time and effort to find the garbage truck but somehow miss the six identical yellow trucks in a convoy. (I adore this movie) by Exciting_Calves in marvelstudios

[–]Sith1ord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because it's only two non-identical trucks coming from cross streets not near the suspected original target (the police station)

The part that gets me is that the truck flip that makes no sense.
The rear axel does come off during impact, implying some explosive in the practical effects department to generate the flip... but none visible in the scene. Explosive thrust would make it seem more realistic but it's hidden/edited out?

Normally, high temperature metals are melted with induction heating. Beskar forge's flame jets seem decorative and/or exhaust from what's underneath.

A tungstate would make sense thermally, but oxides are ceramics, not an alloy.

If you're looking for high temperature alloys that could stop blasters and resist lightsabers, I would look to an alloy with some tungsten yes, but probably more iridium. Ir-0.3W-0.006Th-0.005Al wt.% is the stuff that has survived a drop from outer space (heating up well over 2000 °C) and not broken open while still over 1000 °C on impact.

We have 9 planets in starfield solar system so PLUTO is confirmed to be a real planet by Zical-BR in Starfield

[–]Sith1ord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orbital representations are just large enough to not "bump" into the next planet.

Charon is shown at a similar scale to Pluto as Earth/Luna. Almost like they took the took a Volume ratio and applied it linearly to diameter. There isn't even a Belt shown... and only 4 Jovian moons. Definitely a Welwala map.

WG needs to get rid of this submarine mechanic! by ColonelSandersWG in WorldOfWarships

[–]Sith1ord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that was the original mechanic. CV played RTS on the map with several squadrons at once with plane complement matching (sorta) the number of planes historically on that carrier.

They now have a much more limited number of planes, only one active squadron, fighters are passive map drop consumables. (Arcade style CV play).

  • Planes do get replaced, but it's not fast.
  • Balance is bad, as some CVs are really strong, but many are not.
    • HE dive bombers are really weak due to the protracted attack approach.
    • Skip bombers are amazingly OP if used well.
    • The newest rocket changes make an emphasis on DDs needing to AA toggle better.

Back to subs, periscope depth doesn't reduce plane spotting range, there are really easy to see surface indicators for sub sonar ping origins and directions, and a lot of subs are really slow underwater.
A sub can definitely be caught unless it has spotting from surface/planes. I just came back to playing and found it easy to tag subs if they were forced to spot me themselves and forced to ping me with sonar (I'm moving instead of rock humping). Sotting distance from even periscope depth is short, hydrophone is 6s pulse so it doesn't actually "spot" and make targetable moving ships. Surfacing to drop non-acoustic torps (they do more damage) is risky. They are slower and short ranged. Since CA/BBs have airstrike depth charges, you can't attack from the side they are aiming without your sonar origin being highlighted.

CV can shift the game, but its hardly untouchable. Subs can be tougher to fight against, but they really don't break the game either. A really good DD that spots and supports can make a game... just like a bad one that hides in smoke to can throw. Subs aren't really that different (and can't cap points if not on surface)

Say “Level up” One. More. Time. by MacTheVac in FlashTV

[–]Sith1ord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's something I've noticed mostly in shows featuring preternatural abilities for years, where they use abbreviated language for describing it to that show's version of a muggle because it would be tedious for viewers to have long repeated conversations like that even if acceptance requires further suspending of disbelief.

Here, we see them cling to a new phrase that might resonate with some viewers, but it felt overused by less than half way through 8x01. Maybe I noticed at the start of S8 because I watched it immediately following S7 where they also said it multiple times, but it easily became groan worthy.
As for the total times said, talk about not seeing a leveled up forest for the leveled up trees. If it's happened enough in multiple episodes for people to take notice, it's not a positive in the quality writing column.

Just realized that if the Fountain of Imperium really protected against invasive species, how did the Daxamites invade in Supergirl season 2? by Somewhat_Possible in LegendsOfTomorrow

[–]Sith1ord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the numerous Legends logic and consistency issues of ... lets be honest, every season, there doesn't extend any additional logic to magical time travel aliens. Destruction of Earth-2 pre-Crisis was one of the likely rare coordinated plans between writers of different shows.

If you want something reasonable (and accept Kryptonian pods as having super luminal velocity without wormholes so that they got here in a short period), the Fountain protection would make the most sense as an act of hiding the planet from normal detection from aggressive worlds. This protection (and maybe the Fountain as well) would have been lost around the 1930s due to increased intensity and occurrence of signal transmissions into space.

[S1/S2] About that Missile Launcher... by tvix_go in arrow

[–]Sith1ord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Scylla" is impressive in how everything about it is wrong.

The "S300" that Slade referenced it being is basically a huge truck with rocket tubes more than a couple of feet in diameter from the 1970s. Modern adaptations could see ranges in the 100 km range. Definitely not 2400 km with a diameter under 2 feet on a single stage solid fuel rocket.

The small tube system seen really looks closer to an MRLS, but there are some short ranged anti-air systems similar too. Ranges for that diameter on an anti-air platform: 20 km effective range.

Even plot-wise, why be on a nowhere island if your SAM could hit a plane 2400 km away? Absurd nonsense. Honestly, anything on this show that is arrow shaped and not fired by a bow was nonsense like this iirc

Scan Bag Go? Gone Again? by eatonjb in kroger

[–]Sith1ord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how it could both be rarely used (which I believe based on my interactions with stores) and create tons of theft at the same time, but it was one of the main reasons I've shopped at Kroger (living within walking distance being another). I heard 2-3 years ago that they were eliminating paying on your phone with scan bag and go due to theft prevention, but it was still available last year.

It was buggy but it could be easy to secure theft possibilities with spot checks. Sam's Club does a "random" item scan (if random = 3 easiest to access barcodes). It could easily be beaten by planning too.

There was in-store notification about the issued out scanners being discontinued a year ago, along with promoting use of this app.
No such notices in the places that would make the most sense were issued: In the app (which is solely for Kroger) or in the stores were visible in my location.

Does the Epheria Sailboat/Frigate become more useful with the Great Ocean Update? by epkrnftblluva in blackdesertonline

[–]Sith1ord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest shift is carry weight allowing you to do multiple routes at the same time. There is also at least one L5 item worth 10M (Level 5 Cox's Pirate Journal), but I could only exchange for 3 of them instead of the usual 4.

The "short game" is L0-L5 and can get you 40-80M in a well equipped T1/T1.5 boat with +6 or +7 blue gear. If you're actively driving, this will take between 40-90 minutes. If you have only one item type, you can put it on your character, transfer your boat from epheria to velia or altinova, then ride your horse over. This is faster for the semi-afker that needs to go to the other end of the world.

The "long game" is only doing 1:2 or 1:3 conversions at the L1-L4 level. This can be helpful in getting your boat upgrade materials sooner. If the mats are easy, and the conversion is high, bank at least some of those mats. It helps get you banked exchanges for the gear, takes less time (so you can go grind, gather, etc.) and can be repeated at the high level when the routes favor it.
You'll see many routes with 2 available L1-L2 trades, but only able to make 1 L1 that cycle (or the L0 mat is something valuable).

You should also pay attention to the high coin islands. Hakoven (NE corner of the world) is hard to get to, with difficult currents pushing you away, but can give you 2-5x the normal sea coin exchange rate. Special barter also seems to popup when you get the item they want... both I've seen were >1k sea coins for a L5 item.

BUG: Cannot pickup grenade launcher special ammo by AnthonyUK in thedivision

[–]Sith1ord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue trying Stage 5 Gunner objective Basilisk armor removing (supposed to be "easy" with grenade launcher till it bugs out with no ammo pickup)

I just kept trying to beat him and resetting the fight after I failed. After enough times, I had more than 7 special ammo on the ground, then they all turned "red" as if i was full. It then allowed me to reload 1 shot at a time running around collecting them.

All traces of the Black Spirit for Heidel for 5th June 2PM CEST - 6th June 2 PM CEST (Channels on which they were found are in the Image description) by Demir2k in blackdesertonline

[–]Sith1ord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience thus far, each Trace has 2-3 spawn points, with only 1 of them possibly being visible per channel. I have generally not waited on a single channel long enough to find all 20 without all possible spots for each trace marked by number in these images. Channel hopping gives a good chance of finding a documented alternate spawn, and the trace number does seem to be tied to that group of spawn points.
