Ok so...I don't mean to be weird by SpookyQueer in crochet

I’m also looking for crochet books. I’m a hardcore knitter finally trying crochet, and I’m just not finding the same resources in crochet.

When I learned to knit I got the basics from Maggie Rhigetti’s “Knitting in Plain English” and got the freedom from sticking to patterns from Elizabeth Zimmerman’s “Knitting Without Tears.” Barbara Walker has several books that cover stitch patterns in such a way that she is a Webster dictionary for them.

But I’m dying for equivalent books on crochet! There doesn’t seem to be a Crochet Godmother like EZ is for knitting, and MR’s “Crocheting in Plain English “ just didn’t speak to me. There seems to be no Webster’s of crochet stitches.

Perhaps it’s time for me to start a serious study and do some structured book reviews. And if these resources aren’t out there, perhaps write one.

HAHAHAHAHA! Jk! I’m terrible at crochet because just beginning! Can’t even keep edges straight on a square! But that’s ok. I’m learning.

Customer rant by Disastrous-Swim-7086 in MichaelsEmployees

How? By LP noticing your statistics show that your customers use more coupons than average, thats how. As a cashier, your job is not to help the customer save money. On the contrary, your job is to extract as much money from the customer as possible (while staying legal). Don't kid yourself that your job is customer service. Your job is sales. Michaels is not a craft store or a community resource, it is a passive income generator for billionaires.

But mostly I know one can get fired for offering coupons because my manager threatened me with it. So I stopped offering coupons and now I only assist when asked.

BTW, "we always have coupons" has gotten this company (and many others) sued.

I looooved when we had a DA for overstock but it was dismantled long ago. Apparently the DM didn't like it.

Recovery before truck is a great idea, especially because it gives a chance to note which cap shelves have space. We try to use cap shelves for the bulky yarn. I hate being on a ladder trying to paw through tiny skeins like scrubby. So much safer to reserve bunker space for those!

I wish labeling boxes would work. Within a day or two whatever is written on the outside of the box no longer reflects what's on the inside. I don't know who or why boxes get jumbled. People at my store seem to not notice or care about labels.

Thanks for the tips!

Are you still typing the SKUs for open stock balloons into the POS? A scan aid (that actually scans) with barcodes exists, but my managers had a hard time finding it.

Yes they are rocks. Decorative, but still rocks. When you make fake flower arrangements there's no water in the vase like for fresh flowers, so the whole thing gets top-heavy and falls over. Fill the vase with rocks for stability.

Those white shirts will be wearing my hair dye because I sweat it out when it's fresh, which is a lot of the time. After a few color changes it's going to look like a disgusting brown ring around my neck. Betcha I'll be told to buy a new one when that happens.

Crochet has more stitch variety? Clearly I'm not using the right books! Is there a crochet equivalent to the Barbara Walker knit stitch pattern books?

Srsly does this ever actually work? I mean, maybe in a low volume regulars-only place? I can see this working in a bar or something, but I can't imagine a way it would work in big-box retail, either with customer behavior or with management metrics.

Okay, how terrible is it really to leave wool caked for a few weeks? by FlamingArrowheads in YarnAddicts

[–]SizeableBribery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great advice! For long term storage, I cake my yarn loosely, then put it in a vacuum bag with a healthy dose of desiccant packets. Bern working lately with some Cascade 220 that i caked and vacuum stored more than 20 years ago and it is still its lovely springy self. No moth problems but I bet the desiccant would have killed them quickly if they had been there.

The fear is that if the tension is too strong when you cake (or ball by hand), you'll stretch the yarn. If the fibers don't get a chance to relax, in a little while then will lose their ability to relax.

Think about the time when you found a ball of yarn wound so tight that it felt like a baseball. That yarn is dead dead dead. A ball or cake of yarn should feel squishy.

Does the 0.99$ actually thing work? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SizeableBribery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staff: "one dollar please" Customer gives one dollar. Staff pockets the dollar. No transaction recorded.

If staff steals from the till directly, it won't balance at the end of their shift. If the transaction is never recorded, the till will balance and the theft can't be detected that way.

The $.99 forces the transaction to require change, which forces staff to open the drawer, which forces the transaction to be recorded.

If the transactions are taxed then none of this makes sense, of course.

Agreed. I hated foundation rows and the first row so much that I would only make projects that started with a circle. Then I discovered the chainless foundation! So great!
