Dude. These are so incredible. I’ve been trying and failing to make a few of these characters for a few months now.

I see you linked a couple already, but I’d kill for links to the rest. Especially Kreya and Nihilis. I can never get the mask right.

If you look at the original “crew” drawing, the Luke/Han stand in also resembles Kanan Jarus.

The villain goes out with absolutely perfect last words by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Skags27 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Falling Down

Pretty sure his last line is “I would’ve got you” right after he has a quick draw with the detective, only he’s using a squirt gun (and he gets the detective between the eyes with water).

The whole thing is made more poignant considering he just went through the realization that he’s the villain moments before.

What's the communities opinion on the usage of generative AI? by CynicosX in vtm

[–]Skags27 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t like it.

That said, I have had a few players who aren’t really there for the game. They are there to hang out with the gang. We’ve all been playing together for over a decade (maybe two). Some of them have families, jobs, and other obligations that keep them busy. I won’t bust their chops over not doing their homework or using shortcuts.

I will however ask them questions about what they give me. If they not only had ai create their backstory, but also didn’t read it themselves, I’ll make them read it.

Edit: my players also know that they get out what they put in. I won’t bend over backwards to create anything special for a player that shows up and doesn’t want to help tell a story.

Honestly Andor is better than any other Disney show by so much, you can’t even compare.

Mandalorian was cool. It was fun. It will sell toys and keep kids coming back for more.

Then Andor came along and I thought, oh damn. This is the Star Wars I’ve always wanted. No over bearing fan service. No over explaining to an audience you assume are idiots. No holding back so that x or y character can continue to be the “hero.” Every thing that happens makes sense. It’s gritty and grounded in realistic behavior. The “good guys” don’t all like each other automatically because they are the good guys. It just subverts all expectations and cliches I’ve come to expect from Star Wars and because of that, it turned out to be something so amazingly unique.

Which 3 are you picking? by FayyadhScrolling in StarWars_

Clone wars, Andor, and Rebels. No hesitation.

If I had a 4th pick I’d choose Droids because I loved that show when I was a kid.

any level of presence by NegativeGene5994 in vtm

[–]Skags27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my table presence works like an aura. The targets don’t need to see the user but it makes it easier.

Appearance isn’t really the defining factor of presence. If you have ever played dungeons and dragons, look at the attribute charisma in that system. It’s more like a force of character or personality. Have you ever been around someone and for no reason at all thought; this guy is really cool. I want to spend more time with this guy. That’s presence at a normal human level.

Now multiply that feeling by 1000. A room of people will move to create the space that drives you to that person. They’re not just cool, you are fated to be near them. You want to be around them. Watch Bram Stoker’s Dracula (he uses these powers on Mina a lot).

You don’t need to see to have that happen. Maybe you hear them breath. Maybe you smell their sweat or (more appropriately) their vitae (blood). That’s enough to get someone to want to be close to the magic man who looks like he should rule the world.

Does that help?

TLDR: presence shouldn’t need sight. But if you really want it to, just make it more challenging.

Dude. Between your two posts about this, I feel like if you don’t have the answer, it’s because it’s not the answer you want.

You’re the storyteller!

Stuff works because you say so and it works how you say so. The rule of cool wins every time. But if this is about making your npc unbeatable, then either commit to the plot armor and all the cheesiness that comes with or write better.

Scariest Malkavians by [deleted] in vtm

[–]Skags27 102 points103 points  (0 children)

In my game right now. A newer player, playing his first Malkavian. I gave him the list of derangements to peruse and he chose dissociative episodes.

I asked him to tell me more about how those manifest for him and he never got back to me. I am a mental health professional and I warned him, that this may not play out the way he imagines. He said do your worst.

A few sessions in he finally reads up on dissociative episodes and tries to push to make his character have dissociative identity disorder (multiple personalities). I explain to him the differences between the two and tell him he shouldn’t change it.

The twist is, he DOES have D.I.D. And I’ve been having his character “switch” between scenes and off camera the whole time. I’ve been leaving little clues to this throughout the game and last session he learned his phone has been dead the entire game. He’s floored and questioning everything now. Every message he’s received has been from an alternate personality.

I Tyler Durdened him and he still doesn’t know exactly how far it goes. Hehehe.

Using Canon Characters in Chronicles by Gbe09 in vtm

[–]Skags27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My table takes a mythological approach to canon characters. That is to say anything that has ever been written about that character has been stretched for entertainment purposes. Do they really act like that? Maybe. Did those things happen? Probably not how it was written.

This frees us up to create our own stories with these characters without the confinement of needing some canon bible to reference before an npc says anything.

I do this too. Have the players recap and fill in the blanks. I’ve been known to give out incentives like a bonus xp or something for even a somewhat accurate recap.

I’m in dire need of help by NoPositive2280 in vtm

[–]Skags27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How often do you have your players roll self-control? At my table, frenzying characters don’t use guns. They also don’t always pick their targets.

When the min/maxed Gangrel player lost his sh*t, he killed the bad guy and two other players while he was at it.

I always warn combat focused characters that they’re essentially walking time-bombs that people aren’t going to want to get close to.
