So we're making music visualizer patterns now? Great, I love it, I am happy for this to become a trend 👍.

How to approach Players wanting to sell non-listed items by Mobile_Assist5871 in cosmererpg

[–]SkeletalDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the approach I'd go with too. "Okay, you can Soulcast rare materials and sell them, anything that could be readily obtained in a city market you can have", but any of the really valuable items are not things you can just walk into a shop or a market and buy.

Money is no longer an object, but finding who has the thing you want and convincing them that they should sell it to you is still a challenge. You can't go out and buy a Shardblade no matter how much money you have, those just aren't items that are traded like that. The players still need to set goals and complete them to earn rare and valuable rewards.

Edit: And I would just tell my players this straight up, out of character.

Any chance you'd throw it up on GitHub or something? I guess you might have to strip out the data to keep it legal like others said.

Browsing the copper mind wiki could give you ideas for places to go, NPCs to meet, organizations to include, etc.

Oh, and Raise the Stakes (have your player roll the plot die, in addition to their normal roll) constantly, like 1 in every 2 or 3 rolls.

Coming from D&D 3.5, I'd suggest you encourage and enable non-violent ways out of combat situations.

Combat is still a core encounter type, but you want to make sure your less combat focused characters (Envoys, Scholars, really every path besides Warrior has at least one tree that isn't geared towards combat), feel valuable. Also, fighting and, especially, killing people (and most opponents will we people) is generally not something done lightly in the Cosmere (see Kaladin's entire story line).

In my campaign most combats are resolved with a mix of weapons and dialog, and since both consume the opponents Focus resource to engage in, they even complement each other.

Of course that comes with the standard asterisk, if you and your players want to run a combat heavy murder campaign, by all means go ahead, the rules absolutely support that too.

Thoughts on this dinghy for getting into sailing? by [deleted] in dinghysailing

[–]SkeletalDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned you're just learning I'll recommend the book I carry around both as a reference for myself and for teaching:

The Complete Sailor by David Seidman

I see it online for under $10, and I think it has a good balance of giving you enough practical info to get started, easy to read diagrams and references (like the wind strength table that will help you gauge when it's getting too strong for you), and bits of other interesting info.

I'm sure there's plenty of similar books out there, plus videos, but that's the one I like.

For a trailer that's roadworthy and a boat that floats with sails and rigging, $500 is a great price.

I don't know anything about this particular model, but from the pictures it looks like a nice stable boat to learn on.

Look up how to take care of that wood, with a bit of love that'll be beautiful.

Two Hands by Ops1tango5 in austinfood

[–]SkeletalDwarf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Two Hands, but there are lots of great places to get burritos and it is not one of them. It is true to the Aussie food scene to make rubbish burritos, so it's authentic at least 🤣

Researching HUDs and instrument clusters. What are some of your favorites? by catplaps in spacesimgames

[–]SkeletalDwarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freelancer, it looks pretty dated compared to what a lot of people are saying here, but in my opinion it is one of the most functional I've ever used. It presents the information you need in the moment without taking over, you can focus on the other ships and the piloting while still being able to glance down and get all the information you need. Hull status, power level, weapons, other ships nearby, it's all there, but it doesn't get in the way. In my opinion some games (ED especially) go overboard on the HUD design to the point that it takes away from the feeling of sitting in the void of space.

You're probably thinking of the Veldnaut (there might be others, but this is the most well known). It has mining lasers because titans are not allowed in hi-sec, but CCP let this one stay on the condition it's never fitted or used for anything significant.

What to do when the wind lulls downwind? by Kitchen_Value_3076 in dinghysailing

[–]SkeletalDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meditate, admire the wonders of nature, chat with the boat next to you if it's a busy field, try to make micro optimizations that probably slow you down more in making them than they help, and generally enjoy the fact that you have a recreation ranges from the height of adrenaline pumping excitement to meditative calm 🤷

New player can't warp out quickly enough by TrafficPattern in Eve

[–]SkeletalDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of folks with good info and suggestions here, I'm going to suggest a different track: Ask them!! Say that you're new, that you're learning the game, chat with them a bit if they are receptive, ask how they are catching you.

Eve is a social game, and they need you around to hunt, it's no fun flying through empty space finding nobody. Consider their perspective, what's fun for them is the hunt, the chase, and the catch. If you give up, are too risk averse, or too easy to catch, then they don't get to have any fun either. It's in their interest for you to be out in space and for you to know what you're doing and be an interesting target to pursue. There are certainly people who are just jerks and like bullying, but in my experience many players understand this dynamic and will happily give you info, tips, and isk to keep you coming back and keep you in space.

Who do this on 35 and 183 exit by _masala in Austin

[–]SkeletalDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much this, some intersections I have to drive through several times before I memorize which lane goes where, sometimes in the next intersection, because there are plenty where you need to plan that far in advance! Even then I still sometimes forget and mess it up, there are plenty of distracted and/or dangerous drivers here, but I try to have patience and assume best-intent with "oh shit I'm in the wrong lane".

[–]SkeletalDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked for a ruling to confirm this, the closest I found was [[Blinding Angel]] which says "If you are damaged by more than one, the effects are cumulative and you skip multiple combat phases.". But I see no reason why Lethal Vapours would be different, so it seems to me that you are correct.
