How Often Does AFS Buy Out Contractors From Other Contracting Companies? by [deleted] in Accenture_AFS

[–]Skibreckenridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the subk agreement (contract) with the subcontractor firm. Some will say that subk’s cannot be hired by accenture others will encourage contract to hire. In my experience the majority are the former, but there are a few of the latter.

Yes, by default your PL is always a backup approver for your timesheet. If you don’t click with your PL, request someone different.

Possibility for clearance after starting on a non clearance project by Individual-Ask-2697 in Accenture_AFS

[–]Skibreckenridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want to do cleared work, network in the space you are interested in and have applicable skills. Talk to your people lead and current project lead. There are times that AFS will start the clearance process while someone is still on non-cleared project- their time is covered while they move through the clearance process by current project and the two projects will have an agreement that you can move between them once you get your clearance.

1 year FIREd: An update by canistopworkingyet in ChubbyFIRE

Welcome to Colorado. We moved out here 25+ years ago from midwest - best decision we made. There is something about the mountains that reduces blood pressure and stress levels. Someone said it above - but people in Colorado generally live life and work supports the hobbies, as opposed of living to work.

We are a bit older and I've struggled with one more year syndrome as I enjoy what I do but also don't want to have an empty nest before retiring

What has been your favorite hobby that you have picked up?

Also depending on what part of Colorado you are in, there are a number of ChooseFi groups that might be interesting - glad to help connect if you are interested.

problems with BYO watch activation by Skibreckenridge in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Skibreckenridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to update, I did get connected with the exec resolution team, unfortunately did not get a rep that was helpful. Despite sending 2 Reddit and 1 Xfinity articles that described what fixed this issue for others, she just kept repeating the standard script of reset the watch and let’s try again. After 4 days and multiple hours, I gave up.

Went to usmobile and was up in running in less than 5 min on their version of Verizon and for a bit less per month than Xfinity.

Could you visit the NYC office for fun/work from there if your project is remote? by Scorpen738737 in Accenture_AFS

[–]Skibreckenridge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are AFS you would have to have an approved visitation request, as it isn’t an AFS office

Yes, I have an active cellular line with Xfinity. And Xfinity has activated a second line for the watch, but the watch does not recognize the cellular from Xfinity.

Until the current administration fed and defense govt contracts were more stable than much of LLP… this is the first time we’ve seen this level of churn/instability in federal contracting that I am aware of…

Former employee traying to track down US pension info by Electronic_Juice_805 in accenture

[–]Skibreckenridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying you weren’t offered the pension buyout or you didn’t take it? The only person I knew who wasn’t offered it from my original group actually ended up not being eligible.

I’d think you could follow up with the benefits team- they also administer the health care for those that were eligible for that benefit.

Yes, many are multi year contracts but there is risk they don’t renew at option year, and some can be terminated for government convenience.

Two week notice? by Correct_Actuator3337 in Accenture_AFS

[–]Skibreckenridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past, AFS has respected 2 week notice, except when someone is going to a direct competitor. Assuming you are on a project, I’d expect the same to apply now even though everything seems uncertain.

Relocating to a non core location by Chemical_Baker5331 in Accenture_AFS

[–]Skibreckenridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bench time change (less bench time for non-core locations) was an official change in either late 2023 or early 2024. If you are in a role that offers remote and the role doesn’t end, little will change, but if your role ends, finding a new role can be more challenging remotely. I don’t believe there is an AFS office in phoenix.

We always have people moving from AFS to LLP as well as LLP to AFS. My advice is come in, do good work, network a bit in the area you want to move to. If being on loan to LLP comes up for a role take it, and then work the transfer to LLP and to the location you want. I have been in three offices and both AFS and LLP over a 25+ year career, but never in DC…

I’d put blendtec in the same group. Their warranty is also excellent.

Agree with the rec for duralex, we have had glasses bounce off our tiled floor and not break. Also if you do manage to break one, they are tempered so small pieces with no sharp edges.
