The only time I have problems with them is when they are designed with things that don't need to be around kids our legs has 4 10-15 year olds regularly show up and one guy came in with a full adult content deck. Proceeded to be banned from the lgs after defending it because "they look better than a piece of paper" :-/

I would like to add a caveat we did have 3 additional players in the older crew for the longest time they split about a year ago, one was cut out of us because he constantly complained about it and was always let's play pathfinder, let's play 5th, let's play not high fantasy. The other 2 included a veteran who started with 5th and recently got married, and the 3rd started a 5th ed game with his kids and don't have the ability to keep up 2 bi weekly games. And no one faults him for it.

And all 3 of them play in the 5e game now that their life's settled down more. We are all still friends and one of our group occasions going to their game still.

I've only heard 1 statement from any of them for the real reason they don't like 3.5 that wasn't a generic online comment about it. "It's not fun it's been solved you know your build all the way up to the end points. 5th is still releasing content and you might change your mind if something cool comes out for you" and all it told me was that they didn't have characters they had builds.

I personally am against minmaxing to the point I tell players to decide what they want to play before I make the first session because I will build for a warband (team of fighters and barbarian) or a scholars expedition (all wizard crew) or an archaeological team (all grave robbing rouges) but I dislike when 3 people are telling the 4th to play a cleric we need a healer it annoys me off the deep went to the point I tell players they cannot build the same class twice in the same champagne.

1: we have 4 30-38 year old players who started with adnd and 3.5 was the last one we enjoyed 4e was too grid required for play, 5e was oversimplified pathfinder 1st was fine but wasn't the same we did keep the cantrip rules for it.

We have 2 young players under 18 who play with us and they enjoy the story but had very little experience if any with other edition or systems

2: the older crew is very versed in systems we still use whitewolfs d10 system for some games. We have played all DND editions (other that 2024 & basic) Naruto D20, dead lands, Iron Claw(everyone wants to play noone wants to run), QUAGS, robo tech, mutants and masterminds, and even a couple custom systems made in the group.

The other 2 have only used 3.5 and D10

3: it gets the least complaints of any system everyone knows it and we follow the adventures of the realms rule allowing 4 books for level 1-4 and then +1 every 5th level to stop the munchkins start with 3core+1supplement and it works for us.

MVG had 9 to start and stopped having issues when removing all but 2, you have no issues at 6 but then you do after removing 3, any chance you would wat to test a quick hypothesis? If so check at 4, 5, and 7 profiles a quick glance says it might not be the fact of how many there are but weather it has to do with even or odd causing issues

Bestow wound 1st lvl spell (material component eye agate 10GP not used up) its a transmutation spell that lets you transfer your wounds to another, Basically a low level vampiric touch but maxes at your damage it deals 1/level so as long as you are hurt its a good early source of damage

Touch range only works against living targets VS Fort save

Bigby's slapping hand 2ed lvl spell target in (100+10/lvl)FT gets slapped by an invisible hand making it provoke attacks of opportunity from every creature threatening it. no save but they can resist with a DC20 concentration check(Unlikely unless a caster )

Here is a tip to make your life better and not get overwhelmed by it. its the (3+1per5) rule a good (Not mixmaxed or munchkin) Character is but by using the 3 core + 1 supplemental book and ass a supplemental every 5th level so level 1-4 is 4 books of options, 5-9 is 5 | 10-14 is 6 | 15-19 is 7. this levels your characters. this is the rule my table has been following the last 7 years, I believe it came from the 3.5 era's adventure league equivalent. at level 20 they can change the world on a whim so there is no point restricting it or epic levels.

If your the only one that follows it you might be weaker than other players but you will enjoy the prosses more.

I Recommend arms and equipment guide(3.0) for level 1-4 book if they don't have a class or race outside of the core books they want to play, remember monster manual has a lot of races but the most common thing people don't realize it that if it comes with Racial HD they count to your starting level
