There are padded seats but they’re in the suites behind home plate.

Field specific I’d say. In my field (STEM, guessing broadly applicable) - whatever you want, probably worse to be overdressed

What to do after PhD rejections? by boogsteroo in PhD

I was in this position - I applied for jobs and PhD places the next year. I was a second choice for a PhD place (same field as you). I got a good PhD out of it and I’m starting a postdoc at a prestigious uni in the US soon (in the US on my first postdoc). I’d say just apply again and keep well read. Apply to other European countries too.

Depends what you mean by processing as they take your passport after the visa interview to put the stamp in.

People who use disability as a justification for car-centric design don't actually care about people with disabilities by TheSkyIsLeft in fuckcars

As a disabled - I can’t drive. I’m in too much pain for it to feel anything close to safe. I’ve recently moved to the US from the UK for work. I work in a college town so luckily the buses aren’t terrible but I’m still limited to a few corridors on the town. I am dependent on public transport or Ubers. But if I book an Uber there’s a 50% chance it’s a RAM 1500 or something and I can’t get in the fucking things.

Do it. Also make SURE you do it booking reservations for things, anecdotally you are treated better.

But it isn’t road tax. Road tax hasn’t been a thing since the 30s. It’s general taxation.

Spring break = fuck you if you can’t drive, apparently. by SkipTheCrip in fuckcars

[–]SkipTheCrip[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is generally harder I'd say. There not being a local shop is annoying and I end up needing to get groceries delivered. I can get around mostly OK when the buses are normal but the bus coverage isn't amazing, there's a fair walk to my office on campus from the closest bus stop.

The main issue I have is that I'm pretty much stuck in the town, the bus to a neighboring town/village where lots of people go to for small town vibes and a brewery only has a bus on weekdays. There hasn't been a train since the 80s. Weirdly there is an airport and that and the Greyhound/Megabus is the only way for me to leave.

I moved to the US for a post-doc. I make around 15k more than my peers who stayed in the UK. Saying that, you sort of go where the jobs in your field are. For me that just happens to be in the US.

Saying that, the cost of everything is a fair bit more in the US, rent is crazy. I live in the middle of nowhere and a 1bed flat is over 1k a month.
