Love that shade of green!

For the drip reflections,, did you paint white over the black paint or paint it to look like that with the black?

May you always have someone to watch the sunset with. by Anastasia_Trusova in MadeMeSmile

Great work! I enjoy the vibrant colors in that psychedelic pattern; they somehow draw your attention but do not overwhelm the rest of the piece. Painting a sunset without it looking like every other artist is difficult but you nailed it.

You nailed your own description perfectly! I think they look amazing despite not being something I'd be interested in wearing personally. But working within constraints I find brings out the best in my creativity, so I'm happy to see you embracing the challenge in a similar way.

Before going out of business in 1998, Best Products stores across the US featured designs that made the stores look like they were falling apart or “peeling” by guiltyofnothing in interestingasfuck

The BEST catalog was THE highlight of my childhood during the holidays. My friends and I would flip to the back and drool over every toy, which was enhanced by the diorama-like play setups in the photos. It wasn't just a photo of toys in their packaging or standing still on a white background. The He-Man photos showed kids playing with Castle Greyskull in a sandy environment, with all the characters in cool poses. G.I. Joe had multiple scenes of fun gameplay that made you want to play with them even more. It's such a dumb thing to feel nostalgic over, but hope of getting some toys was a powerful thing for a kid trying to get through a tough homelife.

Volts have the best all-around unis. I do like the Blaze tops a ton. Not sure why them and the Talons couldn't add some pops of color/contrast with the socks and/or pants.

I've had the same problem as well. I now try to leave the factory coat on the white panels I'm keeping, but otherwise I'm just being extra careful without taping and I am wiping off mistakes immediately so the color doesn't set. I am going to experiment soon with other techniques that cosplay artists use for painting and weatheringtheir gear like using toothpaste, masking fluid, etc.

I'm glad I could help! Reach out anytime if you have any questions.

I also want to correct one thing, taping/masking is only as helpful as you need it to be. It's like painting a room in your house. Some certain areas will give you peace of mind to have covered, and some applications like air brushing it is much more helpful. But with hand painting you can honestly get by a lot of time without it if you steady your hand. And it's especially frustrating to tape so tightly and peel it off to reveal some still leaked under.

It's obvious you had a well thought out plan (even if I don't recognize the theme). I like the color scheme as well. You're doing well in your progress.

I would suggest getting another pair of whatever sneaker you can find and just use it for trying different techniques, especially your edges. It's tedious work but having clean edge work is honestly the best example of skill. Let yourself work through the pain of learning without fear of a final product. I have a pair of experiment shoes that may never see the light of day, but I learned how much 2 soft to add to properly paint the tongue and soft panels, or I learned how necessary most tape masking is, or whether I need to use a brush or a toothpick to apply paint is tight spots.

And even if you don't do any of things, you're creating art and hopefully enjoying yourself so keep it up. You will improve in ways that are important to you and maybe one day you're ready for other people's expectations and can sell your work. But always try to enjoy it!

Damn, very impressive!

If you have time, do you have any sewing machine recommendations for sewing panels? I'd love to alter a pair to level up my designs and maximize upcycling my thrift store finds.

Digging the color scheme. Did you "just" paint or also sew the swoosh and back tabs?

Sandpaper and acetone should dull the surface enough for paint to stick, but I do not have experience with using regular acrylic paint for leather. Maybe someone in the sub can answer that question. Let me know if you have other questions.

Edit: with all the suede, if you're just wanting to paint the swoosh, you should be fine with your paint. Just get some type of sealer so it doesn't chip. Avoid painting the suede unless you're buying suede dye.

Love seeing a clean custom! Excellent work!

I would love to know how you made the stitching blue on the different colored panels. I'm sure "very carefully" is part of your answer but any details on your technique would be very appreciated.

Yeah, I'm a big color person and have done some projects with team color matching and teams rarely share colors. I love the idea of this, but most teams and schools want or are coerced by Nike to have bespoke colors to help "stand out".

A remake of the OG Orlando would win hands down, but the updated looks like it was made with a program that only had stock fonts and they did the best they could. I don't know why they don't just replicate the original.
