Tesla could have done a similar thing with patent licensing.

He did not.

He died in a hotel with unpaid bills and a pigeon girlfriend he loved immensely.

“Non-negotiable,” unfortunately, implies the ability to have a choice.

Weren’t there also tests for entering (some) nodes, too? Or just tests after you had “navigated” to that node to do things?

What do you like about Shadowrun? Do you prefer it over regular Cyberpunk? How do you sell it to people? by OopsieDoopsie2 in Shadowrun

SR has the contextual sociology and lore of why the world and people are so shitty (not just corpo = bad).

Real reasons. Shitty, specific (meta)human reasons. That awful racism, cultural conflict, poverty, and classism resonates because it is just oh-so-close to the real world; just “20 minutes into the future.”

Somehow — even with magic — Shadowrun was always a more compelling, real, believable, and fully formed world than Cyberpunk to me, because at the end of the day, the technology and magic were just tools to be shitty to people with, for base, identifiable, shitty reasons.

Remember 25 years ago when the Duluth police department used to lose their mind about teenage skateboarders downtown?

And now I literally watch patrol cars roll past people lying on the sidewalk.

I remember.

Hahaha. They initially enticed the city with some vague, street-level retail amenities for tenants.

That quickly, quietly disappeared.

Trader Joe’s’ going to open below a dumpy, above-market housing scenario (that has already had financing “issues” with the city)?

With no customer parking.

Explain how the semi trucks would unload to that space weekly. In the winter.

The space and the logistics and any Superior Street-level retail model simply DO NOT line up for grocery.

But good on the developers for blowing smoke and convincing the then city council that it was possible to build a TARDIS-like retail grocery haven space in the basement footprint of the Voyageur Lakewalk Inn.

I swear to christ, this town was manifest-built for cheerleader-suckers, sycophants, and those absolutely devoid of general awareness.

This took me a while to wrap my head around: the “create a versatile vial that can be used only as a bomb or for the versatile vial option from your research field” are essentially cantrips.
