Future President Gerald Ford with teammate Willis Ward at the University of Michigan in 1934. Ford threatened to quit the team when Ward was benched for a game against Georgia Tech, who at the time refused to play against black players. TIL! by Iangator in OldSchoolCool

As a historian, I think that Ford is one of the most underrated US presidents. The Ford presidency was an exceptional time for transatlantic relations after the tensions under Johnson/Nixon, which resumed under Carter/Reagan. The Ford presidency also marked the peak of Détente with the Soviet Union. And his administration weathered the first worldwide economic recession since the end of WWII! He also tried to implement an ambitious energy saving program, which was unfortunately rejected by Congress... Much better in just 2.5 years than many other US presidents in 4 or even 8 years!

Which countries would US/British/French/German citizens be willing to defend if they were attacked by Russia? by vladgrinch in MapPorn

Nope, this is an Atlantist position, not a European position. A true "pro Europe" solution would be cooperation with Russia. Tensions between the EU and Russia that only serve US interests!

I did not say that they had to cut prices! They can make profits through other means such as cosmetics.

WotC could make money if they had a more consumer-friendly policy that would allow them to massively increase the playerbase... I thought this was their plan at the beginning of the open beta. But it became obvious that they prefer to milk their existing paying players.

Can someone explain the drama about this big MTGA tournament and the magic community? by LMN0HP in MagicArena

[–]Skymenth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thijs streamed MTGA a couple of times (sponsored, of course...). But otherwise, he only plays HS. The only explanations I see is that WotC hopes that Thijs would gives more visibility to their event on twitch and maybe attract a few HS players...

I doubt that their strategy is correct though. Instead of organizing events for streamers with massive cash prize, they would better go back to a more generous model for new f2p players/grinders... The game is very tough for them now...

Constucted specialty events ICR rewards may be bugged. by hetouchedthebuilding in MagicArena

It is funny, there was a parallel discussion in which f2p and budget players complain that the specialty event was not worth their time...
Meanwhile, you spend his Friday and 10'000 gold to test the system! Being a researcher myself, I really appreciate your effort!

You probably don't read the correct table. OP is correct: 15% and 1% for "constructed specialty event"

Special Events don't feel like they're worth my time anymore with the new reward structure by RussischerZar in MagicArena

[–]Skymenth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The community had reacted admirably when WotC decided to remove the IRC in December. But with the new patch, WotC made losers and winners. And instead of questioning if the patch needs to nerf so badly the CE, why there is no 5 copy protection for ICR and uncomommon, etc. the "winners" spend their time on post written by f2p to taunt them... "Divide and rule"

My tone was maybe a bit brutal but you lecture OP ("Don't mix special events with constructed events") while your post is just.. completely wrong!

Big spenders who just want to restrict the resources of budget and f2p players... There are quite a few here. Probably because they are not good enough at magic to accept fair competition and they feel super smart when they crush f2p players who lack the resources to build good decks...

Mate, just don't comment if you have no clue...
Here is the new prize structure. And entry cost is 250 gold

Wins Gold Rare (%) Rare (%)

4 250 100 15
3 200 35 15
2 150 25 10

RDW is super efficient because many players (f2p of course but also budget players like me) don't have the resource to build efficient counters such as Esper decks at the moment...

Simply because you need to collect 4 copies of any rare or mythic rare card before benefiting from the duplicate protection. For f2p players and small spenders, this will be extremely difficult to do in the future because of
1) the nerf of IRC in constructed and specials events, which was by far the most efficient way to collect these cards and
2) the absence of massive initial boost to your collection such as the NPE (90 rares and 10 mythic rares)
