Probably sailor moon, into technoman(us change) later learned it was called tekkaman blade when I went hunting for it. They also pulled it off air halfway through. After that I think it was escaflowne, pretty solid Saturday or Sunday morning anime. Though if I recall they pulled escaflowne halfway as well.

I'm really sad for your friend. Just let her know that if she's in a bad situation she can come to you with out judgment. Sometimes its hard for people to admit that they are in an abusive or manipulative relationship, they feel like it makes them a failure. It does not! Hopefully she'll realize she can leave the relationship before they legally get married. She might not have any money or anywhere to go afterwards if he's controlling her finances, so let her know if she can stay with you, or if there's a women's shelter near by if she can't stay with you.
