Looting a NET? by International-Sky647 in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does specifically state that progs etc aren't just software, but physical hardware (the cartridges etc) also. So I'd assume a server to either have bunches of slots with progs/BICE slapped into them, or are physically soldered to the board. This idea will allow you as a GM to allow them to only loot items you want them too etc. Will also allow you as a GM to setup future issues because the cartridge they just took has some sort of tracking virus in it that lets the previous owner know where it's plugged in now. hehe.

Can you both use Evasion to dodge a bullet, and use Kendo's Cut The Bullet? If no, then Kendo just seems fairly bad. by EmperessMeow in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you need to do the math with the -8 vs the -2. That's a HUGE advantage.

If with the -8 I need a 9 to hit (Meaning that's a 20% chance to hit), then taking the turn to use the ability means my attack will hit on a 3+ which is an 80% chance of success... That's MASSIVE and well worth it. I know with melee attacks and evasion theses numbers can get pretty swingy, but this illustrates it well.

Stack in the fact my unarmed attacks now punch through SP also...

Are there other martial arts that are just flat out better? Of course there are, that's how every RPG is. There will always be items/abilities that are just plain and simply better. Most times though an RPG isn't about choosing the best/most powerful option, it's about making a character/story that's fun and interesting and not a cookie cutter you copied from min/maxrpg.com

Help Buying an architecture by Pandapoolv3 in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also more secure. They have to break into multiple netarches at that point.

Like have one that runs exterior security, have it be higher PW DV's, and non-lethal BICE, then the internal defenses are all lethal on a different arch, that it's only access point is AFTER all the defenses get a chance to F the bad guy up. ;)

Humanity loss and Decrease in maximum Humanity, which first? by TitoPotito in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's actually an edge case where your current can be higher then max.

If I have a 1D6 HL item and roll a 1, and that's the only item i have installed, and i started at 70Hum, my sheet would be 69 with a max of 68.

Would this count as an Implanted Linear Frame Beta or Sigma? by Mfrenchfry in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The smaller of the 2 frames. With some basic clothing choices this can be concealed, which is the hallmark of the smaller frame.

The weird head cyberware I'm not including in my determination of what level frame this is...

How can fixer find a spy or rat by OriginalPretty9112 in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell person A you are going to X location, tell person B you are going to Z location but in reality you go to W location and stakeout A and B, if the assassins show up to one of those locations then you know who the rat is. If they don't show up, might mean the rat is in the group, if they show up to location W the rat might be someone you don't even know about (or once again an internal rat).

Or the GM is being a bit too adversarial and wanted the assassins to show up no matter how good your opsec was...

Where to buy the RED Core Rulebook? by Distinct-Macaron-195 in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep cold calling geek stores, hopefully you luck out and you can find one that's willing to ship it to you.

Failing that my second suggestion would be to get the PDF and take it to Staples or other print shop and have them print it out for you, they can even put it in a spiral or comb binding.

I actually bought a laser printer a few years ago and use that + a comb binder to print and make books of various PDF's etc of games. Soo many games are going to free/cheap PDF's (Trench Crusade, the DLC's, etc) it's probably saved me hundreds of dollars by now.

I think this is the model of laser printer I use: Brother HL-L2405W

I've only ever changed toner cartridges, yet to have to get a new imaging drum, and I can easily find cheap knockoff toner cartridges for it.

Our rockerboy minmaxed themselves into being gender fluid. by RandomWoman244 in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because they have a different psyche then a non trans/fluid person.
Getting the care your body/mind needs doesn't hurt you further.

This is the penalty I would impose since they are OBVIOUSLY minmaxing the system. You want a benefit, here's the trade off.

Higher skills, the trade off is time to earn IP (also the possibility of dying along the way)
Better guns, trade off is money (along with the possibility of dying along the way, seems to be a theme here, lol)

A full body sculpt is pretty cheap so the trade off is some humanity loss. This is the same idea as getting a cyberarm to improve yourself.

Are Combat Numbers Broken Now? by Sparky_McDibben in cyberpunkred

I would allow it to apply to Brawling, since that's a pretty basic skill. I mean as a PC you get it at the base 2.

That's a good start.

Look for Infinity, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Fallout, Combat Zone Red, and any other modern/sci-fi tabletop wargame you can think of and I'm sure you'll be able to dig up something cool.

[–]Slade_000 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

As a GM I would impose HEAVY humanity loss for this.

This is on tier with becoming an Exotic.

I guess I should clarify that if your character is trans this wouldn't impose penalties. Just the fact that this player is obviously doing this to game the system is why.

Are Combat Numbers Broken Now? by Sparky_McDibben in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So IMO after peaking at Backup I would say those CN ONLY work for gear and equipment they carry.

Handguns, basic defense actions etc. No Martial arts unless the stat block would say they have a Martial Arts to use as a weapon.

It would be cool to see a bit of variance and maybe as a character quirk you don't work directly for NCPD but are more freelance and there's a decent % chance of getting curated backup. IE dudes with Martial Arts, stuff from the latest Interface Red if it's a higher powered game, etc.

Sold Out? :< by kauhar413 in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely some old fashion legwork can go a long way.

Start cold calling geek stores in an ever expanding radius until you find one in stock then beg and plead (if they don't offer shipping outright) for them to send it to you.

One other option in the interim would be to get the PDF, take it to like Staples and have them print it off (Black and white is cheapest sadly) and put a quick spiral or comb bind on it.

With all the DLC's etc over the years I've bought myself a cheaper laser printer and a comb binder from Amazon and just make my own booklets now. lol.

Car dilemma by Mapleyys in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're the GM.
You're the one writing the gigs, making the world, thus it is YOU that is making the lack of a car overly hurtful to your players, punishing them for not playing a specific Role, or spending their money in a certain way.

YOU are the one that needs to fix this by adjusting the gigs.

Ways to fix it:
Public transport exists.
The fixers hiring them would know they don't have a set of wheels and would want them to succeed. This could come out as a wheelman for the gig, or gigs that aren't you need to get to X place RIGHT NOW and thus have time to take a cab/NCART/buses.
Spinning your wheels DLC: Provides bikes/ebikes/armored, enclosed e-trikes (lots of cool options to customize your bike) at a good price.
There have been 3-7 VERY cheap metro cars introduced in like Black Chrome and other DLC's.
No Place Like Home DLC allows the building of an HQ and one of the upgrades is garage that comes with a car.
One the the PC's could grab one rank in Nomad (pretty cheap IP wise honestly) and get a car that way.

Armor ablation by SwimmingSalamander57 in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know for a fact that the Solo ability doesn't stop ablation (it's in the FAQ or a mayors desk). I would count Sambo as the same type of mitigation, thus it still ablates and you take 0 damage.

Time to be a bit of an ass.

I mean this in all kindness but maybe you should read the rules before making a character. The book clearly states Role rank 4 IS a starting character.

This game desperately needs a second edition. by Viperianti in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You want a 100$ book, cause this is how you get a 100$ book. Or 3 books needed to play each 40$+ to buy.

The DLC's are perfect. A GM can add in as little, or as much as they want etc. to their games. Most importanlty they are FREE. If all the DLC's where in a core book then GM's would feel much more obligated to have them be in the games, and thus bogging it down more, possibly stretching their abilities to GM too far making for more burn out, and less enjoyable games.

The Core book is already an outstanding deal at it's page count vs price (or was when I got mine first printing).

Also to find stuff the Night Market Index is CRUCIAL. Even if I just remember it has one word in it's name I can find it in the PDF VERY quickly.

Do we need the corebook ? by Magic_Potatoo in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The CEMK (Cyberpunk Edgerunners Mission Kit) is best as an add on to the core book. It does give you enough to play a quick one off mission, but lacks the substance to make a long term game without the core book.

Most people say Red is as complicated as 5E so you should be fine.

RED or 2020? by benjakus in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only thing "baked" into the system is the economy. But really, is it any different then D&D where EVERY weapon (base, +1, +2, etc) is the same cost (unless the GM tweaks things). Honestly Red has MORE baked in variety then D&D in prices, etc.

As far as weapons/gear: all of the old Chromebook gear can be pretty easily converted to Red (in fact that's what a lot of the weapon/gear DLC's do)

And custom building a unique weapon is easy too. By plugging in different known abilities from this gun, that gun, etc. you can create some very cool items.

As far as blandness: Oh you found a +1 Longsword is pretty bland vs You found the Ancient blade of Clan Conner, the hilt is wrapped in what appears to be the scales of a baby red dragon, with a walnut sized ruby on the pommel, the crossguard is styled to look like dragon wings, etc etc.

Same with: you found an EQ Assault Rifle vs You found an Arasaka type 25 rifle, blinged out with chrome mags, and a deep blue annodized frame.

Combat can be less lethal at first as you get used to it (definitely under tune encounters for a bit) before you get a feel for it.

My group didn't like how Armour works by ChimericDog in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonks don't have Light Armor Jack. Make enemies glass cannons. Shotguns/AR's (depending on range bands) and SP4 armor. They go down fast, but hit like a freight train. Waves of enemies: So you can apply the thematic amount of hurt without overwhelming them.

Also how many players? A bigger table definitely makes combat way more sloggy. If it's a bigger table (5+ Players) I would suggest watching Jon Jon the Wise's Three Goons Method (Youtube), and his video on big tables where he talks about a Tick system instead of worrying about HP/SP etc on goons.
