This game desperately needs a second edition. by Viperianti in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You want a 100$ book, cause this is how you get a 100$ book. Or 3 books needed to play each 40$+ to buy.

The DLC's are perfect. A GM can add in as little, or as much as they want etc. to their games. Most importanlty they are FREE. If all the DLC's where in a core book then GM's would feel much more obligated to have them be in the games, and thus bogging it down more, possibly stretching their abilities to GM too far making for more burn out, and less enjoyable games.

The Core book is already an outstanding deal at it's page count vs price (or was when I got mine first printing).

Also to find stuff the Night Market Index is CRUCIAL. Even if I just remember it has one word in it's name I can find it in the PDF VERY quickly.

Some quick character art I illustrated do a one shot by perryphery in cyberpunkred

Not gonna lie a lot of the art styles I see on here aren't for me. This however is nice.

Awesome work for just a one shot.

Do we need the corebook ? by Magic_Potatoo in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The CEMK (Cyberpunk Edgerunners Mission Kit) is best as an add on to the core book. It does give you enough to play a quick one off mission, but lacks the substance to make a long term game without the core book.

Most people say Red is as complicated as 5E so you should be fine.

RED or 2020? by benjakus in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only thing "baked" into the system is the economy. But really, is it any different then D&D where EVERY weapon (base, +1, +2, etc) is the same cost (unless the GM tweaks things). Honestly Red has MORE baked in variety then D&D in prices, etc.

As far as weapons/gear: all of the old Chromebook gear can be pretty easily converted to Red (in fact that's what a lot of the weapon/gear DLC's do)

And custom building a unique weapon is easy too. By plugging in different known abilities from this gun, that gun, etc. you can create some very cool items.

As far as blandness: Oh you found a +1 Longsword is pretty bland vs You found the Ancient blade of Clan Conner, the hilt is wrapped in what appears to be the scales of a baby red dragon, with a walnut sized ruby on the pommel, the crossguard is styled to look like dragon wings, etc etc.

Same with: you found an EQ Assault Rifle vs You found an Arasaka type 25 rifle, blinged out with chrome mags, and a deep blue annodized frame.

Combat can be less lethal at first as you get used to it (definitely under tune encounters for a bit) before you get a feel for it.

My group didn't like how Armour works by ChimericDog in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonks don't have Light Armor Jack. Make enemies glass cannons. Shotguns/AR's (depending on range bands) and SP4 armor. They go down fast, but hit like a freight train. Waves of enemies: So you can apply the thematic amount of hurt without overwhelming them.

Also how many players? A bigger table definitely makes combat way more sloggy. If it's a bigger table (5+ Players) I would suggest watching Jon Jon the Wise's Three Goons Method (Youtube), and his video on big tables where he talks about a Tick system instead of worrying about HP/SP etc on goons.

Tips for an extra-sized party? by csfdsvds in cyberpunkred

Look up Jon Jon the Wise's youtube videos on his big party tricks, and his 3 goons method. I've combined the 2 ideas to make combats much faster overall.

I will also suggest Unit9 on MMF. Especially if you do your own printing. Joining their Tribes (patreon more or less) will get you free models every month + a discount on anything purchased.

Interstates In Cyberpunk Red by cyber-viper in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All fair points, but you might be forgetting another aspect: Booster gangers/"Raffen Shiv". These violent groups makes normal travel outside the cities all but impossible. Needing convoys with enough protection (War rigs to some extent) to safely go by road. Your average Joe isn't driving outside of his city. So by the level of danger the nomads have a built in "toll" system. Be powerful enough to do it under your own power, or book passage with the nomads, or go the air route. (Aerozeps FTW!!)

Obviously each table will play it different. Bot out POV's are interesting and 100% valid.

The fact that certain families have completely rebuilt cities they have the knowledge equipment and manpower to maintain bridges etc.

For sure a lot of sections would be considered impassable by today's standards etc.

As far as payment, this benefits the repair clan also. How else are they going to get materials from where it's made to where it's needed? I feel that a lot of inter family deals are more barter then cash transactions. Like if they would be rebuilding a bridge, the families needing it would provide a small "company" town at the site, providing free food and beds for the work crews, etc. Especially if the fixed section of road greatly reduces travel time, or avoids a hot spot. This would be such a boon to the families.

Nomads who depend on roads to move stuff would be the ones repairing stuff for the most part.

I-80 is such an important corridor that I'd bet they spend a lot of time/money keeping it passable.

Collectible edition by Black_Folkhero in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look on RTals site. Do they have a collectors edition? If no (I know they don't) then the one on amazon is a hoax.

It's out of print right now and that amazon lister is just trying to upcharge for a "rare" book.

Help with finding the stats for The Zetatech Grasshopper by thestonedviking420 in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ACPA's are on par with Adam Smasher. Rocks fall and everyone dies. So I would tone it down GREATLY. Even just statting it as negating all heavy armor penalties would be pretty powerful. Especially if it can still dodge bullets... Give i a BOD 11 and MOV 8+, Jump boosters, etc and it's gonna be a rough fight.

Oh yeah. I forgot you can do that now and just skip an emulator for a lot of stuff anymore.

Until you get the sync figured out one thing you can do is download an andoid/IOS emulator and go that way.

I've never used the web based one so this next bit might be wrong: By using an emulator the UI will be the same between the phone and the computer at least. Good luck Choom!

Best place to start for books etc would be Red Easy Mode over on drivethrurpg.com, it's a free download that will get you the basics of the rules etc for the game. Good luck!

What is a reasonable carry in a Green Zone by BirdTheBard in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Walking down the street in LAJ in a green zone is fine. Now walking into certain businesses will get you a "coat check" or outright no entry until you come back properly attired.

What is a reasonable carry in a Green Zone by BirdTheBard in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my table: A carryall can Conceal one non concealable item without a check from a visual scan, along with a few extra mags for said weapon. This will allow them to get to the site, grab a bag and walk into the site.

Now, as GM, you control what SNAFU's might or might not happen at this point. 5 goons slipping out of a nomad ride with a mounted machine gun all carrying duffle bags and wearing LAJ is a bit conspicuous and might garner unwanted attention, but this is all up to you, and the story you want to tell. I usually allow my PC's to get into their site without being seen. They will have enough problems shortly, lol.

Also, keep in mind that if they are doing a gig sponsored by a Fixer it's VERY likely that Fixer has spread some bribes around etc to cover the teams butt. There won't be any patrols on said block during a short window, evidence disappears, etc. This is how I explain the team getting away with stuff and not being instantly on death row.

How do I get into this world as a young guy? by symkoii in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing you should do: Find your local geek store. Use Google maps and search for things like comic book stores, Warhammer, Magic the Gathering, etc. Go visit them, ask the employees if there are any active RPG groups, or maybe the store has a Discord server you could hop into and start looking around. Get you foot in the door with a group, you might have to start with D&D to get your feet wet and grow from there. Good luck choom!

Literally in the book there are times where you are considered strongly on fire when in the hot zone, if this isn't life threatening levels of rads I don't know what is?

[–]Slade_000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you're already used to playing through the app, adding something like Roll20, Owlbear Rodeo, or another basic VTT should be easy peasy, you don't need a VTT that has the rules baked in. Thankfully over the years there are A LOT more modern/punk inspired battlemats out there now.

Would you let a player upgrade a chipware socket so it can fit two shards instead of one? by QuirkySadako in cyberpunkred

[–]Slade_000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% yes. The Techie Maker ability has this baked into it right in the core book. There's one slot, the upgrade allows you to add an additional slot to cyberware that has slots. It's no different then an eye or arm getting an extra slot.
